You can't be installing drivers with no OS ....don't confuse the primate
WIN 7 will most likely have all the drivers you need to get things going but you may need to install the video and audio drivers off the disk ( or off the net) to get the fancy features and best performance.
Desktops rarely need specific driver discs unless your running some fancy hardware, but laptops sometimes use slightly oddball chipsets.

(270quid) From ebuyer, the only lappy they had in my price range with no OS on it. i didn't want to be paying for Win8. ideally i'd continue with XP, but been told thats not gonna be supported after april. The Win7 OS disc i've got coming isn't mine, just a kind soul who wanted to help 
Right, anyway, Allein says it won't install the driver disc without an OS, you say I should install the driver disc first....

If it's an OEM disc supplied with the laptop for the purpose of installing drivers then it most likely has a basic OS on it anyway (anybody remember DOS?). The question is, 'why is there a driver disc but no OS disc eh?'

i bought a laptop deliberately with no OS cos I didn't want to pay for Win8. A friend is giving me the Win7 OS whcih suits me better and saved me a few quid.

Yes, the Win 7 disc should self install and include all necessary drivers (don't take my word for it, just try it, you won't cause any problems by doing so)

I think we're both just a bit slow. Old age and brain abuse innit.
And thanks you, Allein and swampdragon for the help. Will prob just install win7 and i suppose if something doesn't work the driver disc is there. but it should all be fine.

Actually, it's quite amazing how 'clever' computers are these days. Once there was a time when you really had to obsess over this sort of stuff, but now you just shove the disc in and let it do its thang!
if something doesnt work driverwise, windows tends to then just search for the drivers online for you itself, and it'll tell you that it's doing it too.
