Just your thumb?

I use my index and middle finger. I don't have to move my hand at all and it keeps the needle in place. I feel like if I used my thumb, especially on the pull back, then there would the chance that it would slip out.

Pretty similar to what I do. My thumb and ring finger hold the needle in place. My pinky makes sure that I keep the needle at the appropriate length, so that I'm not moving it further in or pulling it further out in the process of shooting.

I can't figure out how you guys hold it and pull back using your thumb. The only way I can hold it and still have my thumb free is if I hold it like a little kid holding a crayon, and I don't find that comfortable or feel like it would be easy to pull back and push down. I guess it doesn't make a difference as long as it's working.

I've seen plenty of people with different techniques than I had. As long as you're still implementing safe practices and it's working for you, it's irrelevant.

How do you pull back to make sure you're still registered?

Which fingers do you use to pull the plunger back to make sure you're registered the first time?

My index and thumb. You don't have to pull back if you already did so before registering.
However, I don't pull back before registering.
I don't know why/how you guys think it's difficult to use your thumb. It's actually quite easy & I have no problems with slipping out or etc..
Like I said, 99% of the time, I can register the first time I poke myself.

I hold the rig between my fore and middle finger. Almost like a pencil.
I push the plunger back with the nail side of my thumb to register. Then I use the other side to push down.
The only time I use a finger to work the plunger is when I'm at a odd angle in a vein.

I don't IV.. I insufflate sometimes (snort) but around here drugs are pretty hush-hush.. I have no "drug" friends, besides the occasional rasta but i don't smoke lol

Does anyone push down to inject using their thumb? I've seen this in movies and on TV and I can't figure out how you'd check to see if you were still registered if you were pushing the plunger down with your thumb. The position of your hand would make it really difficult.

Meh, they hardly ever get it right.

I have. I use the nail side of my thumb to pull back (nail against the underside of top of plunger) n then push the plunger with my thumb normally. I find when using my left hand this is actually much easier than trying to use middle n forefingers to pull back...

Never have and don't think i ever will. I think its interesting that it's about 50/50

^As someone already pointed out, it's a voluntary survey and there's more of a likelihood of people who do IV responding....

Also, there's probably a lot of people who use drugs that can't even really be IVd that aren't bothering....

IV is so hard.. I always need help hitting the vein, but I only really ever let 1 person shoot me.. It was bobby and he's only ever missed, to the best of my knowledge, a portion of 1 shot. It was high quality coke and probably like 5 units of the shot.

But he don't do that for me anymore. Idk maybe he would again but dope is the only thing id shoot, and tbh, I'd just as soon snort it if it was powder. Not to mention opiates aren't my cup of tea as much as some of you on here. Ron always makes me sick :(

Nope, never have, never will. Many years ago, I was with some friends who were injecting, as an occasional thing.. I was offered and refused, when I saw them ready to plunge, I couldn't bear to see it , I ran out of the room as fast as I could..

It's one of those phobias I don't mind having..

I think it's more skewed because of how old the poll is. I'd be willing to bet that a good percentage of those who voted "No" a few years ago might have a different answer today.

I know I have a different answer because I voted when this thread was new six years ago in 2007.
