Man wins drinking contest - dies

The fucker died after only 12 and a half pints? Okay i could see a teenager with no tolerance dying from that but someone entering a drinking contest would have to be a light weight to die from that. I've drank alot more then that and survived (a 26oz bottle of bourbon in about half a hour is my record) and so have many others i've known.

Fucking wimp :p

Assuming 5.5% beer, he consumed more alcohol than your record.

You: 26 * 0.4 = 10.4 ounces ethanol

Him: 16 * 12.5 * 0.055 = 11 ounces ethanol

Maybe also the hyper-hydration of rapidly drinking a gallon and a half of aqueous fluid exacerbated his condition.

Ah Vodka my nemesis. I could never drink Vodka straight and it is one liquor that has a tendency to make me violent for some reason. Probably because i tend to down it and black out and loose all common sense.

For some reason I'm exactly the same way, and only with vodka. I thought it was just me.

It's just so easy to drink that you don't realize how much you're having. Especially when you're mixing it with juicy juice. 5 or 6 glasses of vodka and juice and I'm suddenly smashing the furniture of people I don't even dislike.

Okay so he outdrank me by half a ounce of booze. I continued on drinking after i downed the bottle of Jim Beam (according to my bank statements) so i still have him beat =D . You'd think with beer the alcohol would absorb alot slower thus making alcohol poising less likely. I've never heard of anyone in my area getting alcohol poisoning from beer alone.

Yeah alot of people get like that on vodka. The only other drink that has ever made me like that is moonshine as both feel like you just got smacked over the head with a bat once they really kick in. Back when i was a complete drunk in my early 20's i would buy a 60oz bottle of polar ice vodka (quadruple distilled so no rough taste at all) and a few bottles of cranberry juice and drunk get absolutely smashed all weekend. You can't even taste polar ice vodka at all mixed with cranberry juice so you can down drink after drink then wham it all hit's you. Back then all i did was drink (and smoke crack) for the most part where as now my tolerance has gone to shit as i quit for years and now only very rarely ever have more then a beer or 2. I can get drunkish on 6 fucking beers now for god sakes. Fucking shameful :(

Vodka. The belligerence maker. Never gotten violent on it, but it does turn me into a rampant dickhead. And the blackouts. Oh, the blackouts. I pretty much just call it brain bleach these days.

Does this mean the trophy went to the runner-up by default?

If so I'd like to hear how he feels about that. He should have been questioned for the article.

^Right if the man died, he really isn't winning. Another thing I wonder is why the mayor felt the need to alter the actual amount of beer drank?

Don't they make these people sign some sort of waiver before entering this contest? Like, if you choke or die, we are not responsible...
Fucking idiots.

I prefer to call it time traveling...but like the terminator series, you can't take clothes with you.

Where is the heroin shooting contest, or the crack smoking contest?

Well it would be too easy for a people like us BLer's to win the heroin shooting contest because any smart intelligent person would load up on suboxone and/or naltrexone before going into the contest and no matter how much you did you wouldn't die and easily win! lol;)

i cant help but wonder if the man also had any preexisting conditions that could have also contributed to this based on the description of him being a 45 year old heavyset man? although arrhythmia and cardiac arrest are synonymous with alcohol poisoning and granted the circumstance, makes sense.

what a silly contest.

...kytnism...:|

To everyone saying that this isn't that much booze, who knows how much this guy had been drinking before the 'official' start of the contest.

If its anything like festivals I've been to this guy could have been drinking all morning or longer.

On a slightly twisted note, do they have to give the trophy to the runner up now?

The substance did not "make you violent". You just used it as an excuse.

Anyway I can't drink 6 litres of water in 20 minutes.

As a fellow sufferer of vodka pandemonium syndrome, I can tell you that there's a point where you lose the ability to exercise free will. You're lucky if you continue recording memories. Absolute erasure of ego; you are nothing but id.

I have definetely passed well beyond the point of making any rational decision on vodka as well as a few other types of liquors like shine and straight up alcohol. No other drug i have taken (and for me this is saying alot) has caused me as much trouble and utter chaos as alcohol. I admit i am naturally hot tempered and am willing to use violence if there is no other way out of a situation but downing a bottle of vodka takes violence to the forefront sometimes. And i was not the type of drunk that would stagger around and fall down either unless i took benzos with it or smoked alot of weed. I could usually look sober after half a bottle but as for the decision making part of my brain that's a different story. I could easily go from laughing and joking to someone to getting flashes of paranoia and going absolutely fucking mental. There are very few things as nerve racking as waking up the next day trying to piece together what you did to who and hoping that the cops aren't going to show up at your door.

I don't miss those days at all :| . Well okay maybe a wee bit sometimes ;)

The bravado in drinking culture is higher than any other IMO... which leads people to get ridiculously ill or die from trying to prove how manly they are.

^That makes quite a bit of sense. Alcohol is the ultimate inflator of artificial egos. I can't think of any drug I've ever taken that has caused me to act so maniacally ego-driven and so hideously stupid.

Does anyone have a source for this 'legal-high'? ;)
