Right I know Opium poppies don't have furry stalks or leaves. And in my area I've seen plenty around, the little yellow ones (Can't remember the name, but it's not Opium poppy), Corn Poppy or Corn Field Poppy (The red one which is worn on memorial day, also not Opium) and I've noticed alot that definitely are Opium Poppy/Papaver Somniferum.
Now sadly I won't be able to slit them, let the opium latex leak out till morning and then harvest that and then maybe repeat that process. This is unfortunately out of the question.
I have 2 questions :-
#1 - I was wondering would I be best off getting the poppies (cutting them) with as much stalk as possible obviously and then once in a safe place turning them upside down and slitting them heads so gravity helps with the harvest of the opium latex this way. Or would I be best off just getting as much of the stalk as possible, NOT SLITTING THE HEADS, thus leaving the opium in the plant material and then grinding, chopping, liquidising etc them and making poppy tea from them?
#2 - What would be the best way to store these, some of these are 3ft long. Should I just get and then store them in an air tight container in a freezer until 'tea time' or is drying them out like the ones in some flower shops an easy process? If so, how? From pic's I've seen they're just left to hang upside down and dry out but I'd of thought they'd just go moldy and rot?
Thanks in advance!
