Fuck it, Brimz is right, this place needs more stories.

So I've just remembered bat shit crazy Ijaz also dealt me pills for a while. And he was the first person to inadvertently introduce me to ketamine because he bought 100 Sitting Ducks (look them up, they're in Saunders E for Ecstasy) which were the first K dressed as E pills (early ish 1990's). Everyone hated them apart from me and he ended up giving me his last 20 or so he couldn't get rid of. They were great. If short-lived.

In other Islamic drug news, my Saffa mate Mac I mentioned recently used to tell of tripping with Saudi Princes when he was working installing OTIS lifts in Arabian palaces.
 
And why would they be with all that wealth, access to anything...

They might be über-rich twats (might?) but being born Muslim doesn't give you an anti-tripping gene.
 
Somalian Christian mate of mines is a real dope fiend . Originally from Erithrea but family is from Somalia .
He is mates with loads of Somalian Muslims who all Smoke a lot of stuff :)

Many Muslims from Pakistan tend to smoke a lot as well, some draw the line at drinking. But I have seen a few who are not impartial to the odd can of special brew

Know a few Syrians who although do not tend to be very religious like their parents do tend to do drugs

Yeah but nations, areas of lands, whatever you want to call them have different cultures, different traditions, different ideas about pretty much everything. I'm guessing that most consumers of rhino horn are chinese - regardless of the chinese government - because they've had a culture of "chinese medicine" for thousands of years.

You mention chinese medicine to me and I'll go "What a load of cruel, deranged bollocks" - largely because I'm not chinese and I wasn't brought up with the chinese medicine culture. If I'd been brought up in Shanghai I'd probably think "yeah, it's not getting stiff, get me some rhino horn!"

Its certainly not stopping them from taking it though is it? what with its rigid rules of haram and halal.
Doesnt seem like many are listening.

I have never been to Pakistan, But i have travelled in north India up near Chamba Valley , and was shocked at how many people drink Opium tea like its nothing.
Culturally Pakistanis tend to be way more open to any intoxicants apart from alcohol than Indians and Tibetan exiles are . So wouldnt surprise me if more than 9 million pakistanis do opium. There are even charities that have been set up in places in the UK now that specifically highlight the growing drug problem just a few miles over the indian border in pakistan

It's called the real world Ismene. Y'know, what actually happens. To us all, with the same desires, regardless of race and all that shit.

Access and opportunity are the deciding factors. Not colour or race.
 
british pakistanis and british muslims in general are far stricter than is usual in their homeland. presumably a reaction to living within an alien culture. ive seen pakistani girl immigrants dressed in low cut tops, tight jeans and a hijab - honour killing material for a british muslimah

I think we're going down slightly different paths here media. If you're asking me do I think some guy living in a fucking hovel in Pakistan who gets food maybe 3 days out of 7 might be tempted by smack then I'd probably say "yes". I'm not quite sure how that relates to recreational tripping for the fun of it.

I'm not saying it's colour or race, it's culture and/or religion. I've never met a white muslim who liked taking acid either. I've read a lot of books about people who liked tripping - probably just about every one that's ever been written. I can't think of one by a muslim asian.

I guess the only way forward on this is a poll of the board. If there's dozens of muslim asians here then I'm wrong.

I saw an old Interview with Ram Dass once , he said he showed an old indian baba some acid, he gave him a few drops

Now seeing as Swat Valley and Oddiya is in modern day Pakistan , and is where buddhist tantrics like Padmasambhava grew up and where in the old Hindu rishis said people drank Soma. Its fair to say some serious Psycedelics were done in modern day Pakistan.
 
Yeah I'm familiar with the story - apparantly the real story by someone else who was there was the guru palmed the acid (it was 900mics of blotter) so Ram Dass would think he was awesome. Then he put the blotters in the ashes of his fire and gave it to another couple of american tourists (apparantly the ashes of the holy mans fire are supposed to be wondrous). The tourists ate the ash and instantly believed he was a holy man.

Think about it - he took 900mics for his first acid trip - at the very least even if he was "enlightened" - or whatever the fuck he was pretending to be - the physical effects alone would have had him sweating his bollocks off and jumping round.

And you're drifting into Hindus and Buddhists now btw ;) I've definately heard of buddhists taking acid - there's even a book about it called Buddhism and psychedelics.
