trap music

Yeah, and it's just quite ridiculous for partitioning of listenership, discussion, composition, etc.

the 808 drums and snaps and shit i'm sure all the fucking same, but its not about the tech aspect of it. but then another thing is sometimes you just gotta hear it.

I swear to God this is the Mannie Fresh element.

ebola

it's because you're not from/in a place that has a bazillion different kind of rap music to choose from. snap, bounce, crunk, chopped and screwed, trap, strip club rap, and that's just from the south. what about baltimore club rap? glitch? hyphy? molly rap? trap is about the struggle, the jihad. these guys aren't rapping about how good they've got it, they are rapping about how dangerous it is, how shitty bankhead life is, the struggle to get out and the fucked up things you gotta do to get out of the trap. the trap is a real place, or at least it was. you know, like Snow on the Bluff? The Bluff is probably the biggest trap I've ever seen. Or Bankhead, Adamsville, Thomasville, all those places. Clayton county, Ninth Ward/East New Orleans, Louisiana, 4th Ward Houston, North Houston etc. and of course, a lot of things overlap. UGK? trap music for sure. but also houston rap, chopped and screwed, etc. you feel me? i'm starting to sound like lacey. this is something that i could let take over my life if i let it - rap music.

ebola: it's a race thing. no kidding. "electronic" music is for white hipsters, who black rappers love to parrot and tease. "white girl wasted"? it's a real thing. travis porter talking about "those rockers"? it's a way for the black community to feel like that they have some sort of control of the co-opting of it. the 808 drums and snaps and shit i'm sure all the fucking same, but its not about the tech aspect of it. but then another thing is sometimes you just gotta hear it. you know trap when you hear it, for sure.

seems like there's way too many different types for what I would just put under one category tbh

and I know what the slang term means I meant what is so unique of "trap" rap music or w/e the "official" name is on forums where people have to make a new genre every time a new cd comes out

because a lot of old rap is about the negatives in life too, at least the lesser known shit

because Rap music is non electronic and trap came out of crunk's vagina.

I'm pretty sure I've not heard one artist in this thread use an actual band to create backup music as opposed to an electronically produced rythem behind their voice.

So if 2% of the composite is non-electronic, then minority rules? These definitions sound a touch arbitrary.

I suppose you could accuse me of splitting hairs. Jimi Hendrix certainly isn't singing into a paper cup with a string on it and playing a 'grampas guitars.'

But for all intents and purposes I'd consider this music electronic.

so all music with a guitar, drums, and a bass guitar is "rock and roll."??? those genres i listed are so radically different from each other you'd be a fool to say these two songs are the same genre:

trap is "so unique rap music or w/e" because its done a lot to blow a lot of bullshit out of the way. you know, there was 6 minute guitar solos and stupid shit going on in the 70s when punk showed up and said "gtfo". its cleansing and purging a lot of trash out of the scene. i don't even want to list off the bullshit going on in the scene right now because some places its totally shit. (accidental racist, anyone?) trap is aggressive and progressive and keeps shit fresh, as far as i'm concerned.

eta: and i'll keep saying rap is non electronic because the fuck if i'm ever going to see a rap thread moved into EMD and have a bunch of fucking losers prematurely ejaculate over dubstep remixes of rap songs from 1998 and consider themselves relevant. fuck that forum and fuck. that. shit.

Why we call it the trap, cuz its a fuckin trap, yo. truth...

And LOL at Mobb deep and Jay Z is trap music

did i say this already?

trap gotta be spooky. spooky tunes, my niggas.

mainstream trap:

it's fucking good. and i like rappers making references to other rap songs in their songs. there's a good bit of big boi in this one.

Trap music? Gucci Mane, period. His music is so ignorantly infectious its brilliant. And Hes one of those rappers you cant roll you eyes at no matter what he says, his arrest record is hilarious, and he comes up with the funniest, stupidest yet on point analogies for selling drugs out of anyone. You couldn't write a character for a movie better than him.

Exactly they couldn't write a character better than him so they chose him to play the role of some big drug dealer. He was only in the movie for like 5 minutes but had some funny lines. I was pretty disappointed with spring breakers though, it would have been absolutely hilarious if they got the real riff raff to star in it.
