Codeine & CWE (aka cdub) Megathread: third time's the charm

It was so mild it could barely be considered WDs. just sore legs and grumpiness after 24 hours of not dosing which stayed for 2-3 days.

I used codeine every day for about a year and a half, 400mg minimum, and that was easy as piss to quit. I got some very mild symptoms, but nothing much. Codeine is pretty mild. It's different for everyone, but IME it's hard to build up much of a habit with just codeine. Not that I recommend it, there's other reasons not to use codeine too frequently than just physical dependence.

Yeah, codeine is pretty mild, at least for me; mild in effects, mild in addiction?

It really depends on your personal level of morphine metabolism. When I was taking ~600mg daily codeine it took me 80mg oxycodone to get to the same level. I'd say I'm at the extreme end of the spectrum of morphine metabolism though, one of the few who converts alot more than usual.

For what it's worth, I remember the first time I noticed withdrawal symptoms. I had been using for about a year, at a level of approximately 250mg a day. I didn't really realise it was withdrawals until I got back from the camping trip, at the time I thought I had just caught some stomach thing. I had diorrhea, was agitated, but it wasn't a horrible experience and only lasted a day or two.
I went through withdrawals at one stage at about the 800mg a day level as well. By this time it had been probably 5 years of non-stop use. This was hell. I shat orange/green liquid until my ring burnt like fire. At night I'd get the worst fever/temperature swings bringing on a neverending cascade of semi-lucid dreams/delusions/hallucinations - ie thinking my blanket was actually a kind of tetris matrix of metal cans that if i rearranged in the right order would provide me the correct level or warming to stop me freezing/burning up. thinking people were yelling at me. etc etc. could not sleep the first 2 nights at all. The second night was the worst. unstoppable pain/nausea worse than the most horrible migraines I used to get as a child.

I'm at somewhere around 8ish years now, was taking up to a max of 1200mg per dose, sometimes with a second dose later in the day. and I simply will not even consider the possibility of quitting rapidly. I've been doing OK with a taper..

Anyway, it depends entirely on you and the characteristics of your body. Dont be fooled into thinking codeine is 'safe' from addiction. Even if you are one of the ones that doesn't get very far with it, once you get a taste for opiates there's plenty of opportunities in life to switch to other ones.

Yuck. I always hated those dreams/hallucinations you get in withdrawals. I remember dreaming vividly about being abducted in some scary house in the middle of nowhere, and I keep waking in and out thinking I was in a movie. I used to get up to 1.2g codeine a day, but I didn't even get close to the duration which you've being doing it. I've only been taking codeine for about 2.5 years now. One time I had a dream where I was taking pictures of myself on a classic web-camera before waking up and looking out the window only to see my face, thinking that somebody was stealing my pictures and stalking me.

WTF? The whole post...is it just me? apoligies in advance if it is....

Sorry, should clarify I meant codeine metabolising into morphine, metabolisation TO morphine, not metabolisation OF morphine. What exactly is your issue with my post though?

Hmmm, so I shouldn't be to anal about a week or two of consecutive use. I guess i'll see if there's any adverse affects when I quit in the next couple days. I'm sure even for a poor metaboliser who needs a lot, after a few months of consecutive use WD's are almost inevitable.

I don't know; I think it's just him. Maybe he got confused by the lack of quotes? 8(

hhehe. Good luck

Is it dangerous to re-filter the APAP sludge? I filtered through a dress shirt the solution came out pretty clear, I then put all the sludge back in water and re-filtered. There was considerably less sludge in the shirt and the solution came out more cloudy. Tried to put the solution through coffee filters and it still came out cloudy. What happened?

It dissolved more paracetamol - the more water the more paracetamol dissolved. But it's not even necessary if the pills are crushed.

Is it better to crush or dissolve? The ones I usually get dissolve in less then a minute, never saw a point in crushing as it takes a lot of time crushing 80 pills.

Either way felt a hell of a lot stronger when I drank it. Should I be worried?

I wouldn't be too worried. The only real issue with paracetamol is more than often from long-term use; acute use requries a lot of paracetamol. It's not always necessary to crush it, and powderising it borders on dangerous, but splitting the bevels and giving it a quick hit with the pestle always helps. Perhaps the reason why it's cloud after the second wash is because the paracetamol broke down from its coagulated form after getting in contact with water the second time.

I have found crushing to be unnecessary as I got the same results dissolving and most brands will dissolve as quickly as it would take to crush anyway.

Its weird that it came out cloudy the 2nd time but not the 1st? It wouldnt be paracetamol levels would it, causing cloudiness itd be something soluble in the pills..? but then it shouldve gone through all along...

How much water have you used in total?

One thought, has the water warmed up while you've been working with it? did you use cold water for the re-filter? this will allow more of everything into the solution. If it has you should chill it and refilter it as I'm not aware of the solubility/temperature characteristics of APAP/paracetamol

Anyhow, if you leave the resultant solution to settle, if something has gone wrong like a filter failed/developed a hole then the solids will fall to the bottom of the glass.

Re-filtering the sludge is definitely worthwhile - just be careful with the total quantity of water. again I'm not familiar with APAP/paracetamol characteristics, so can't give a recommendation.

Well it's been about 24hrs since taking it and I feel fine so not too much APAP could've got though.

I've always wondered if the hardened sludge could have more Codeine trapped inside but maybe that's retarded, I don't know but it's why I decided to re-filter it. I took all the drug sludge and put it in around 50-100mg of water, just enough to make it wet sludge, some dissolved but not all. I then re-filtered (squeezed) that sludge through the shirt again, everything that was squeezed this time was was cloudy.

Regardless, it was definitely the strongest mixture I made.
