Mother uses Ky. law to pull daughter from heroin

So if that broad (assuming you love her) would want to start MMT or BMT as a means to try to stop using, with the long term goal to be to stabilize on an appropriate dosage of methadone/bupe (enough to completely halt heroin cravings and use), and, eventually taper off the maintenance drug - what that not cut it for you? It can be rather difficult to simply stop, go through PAWS and never look back (cravings, etc.). Perhaps I'm a wimp but I found it to be impossible.
I'd have no problem if she wanted to do maintenance or just a taper, but I know if she kept shooting dope then that's where I'd wind up too.

Wow back from rehab and bashing people on maintenance classy.
I'm not bashing anyone; I'm just stating facts. I think maintenance is a great thing, but it's not the same as being clean.

Until you have a kid this may come across as generally wrong and perhaps stereotypical - I'm sure her mother did what she did out of unconditional love. She probably was worried sick that one day her daughter would end up dead. She probably also read about other mothers who had to bury their children due to drug use. And she then probably decided that possible outcome regarding her daughter was out of the question and she was gonna do anything she could to make sure there would be no child of hers to bury.

Did she go about it the right way? From a user's perspective, most likely no. Then again, let's say you're the parent, and you find out your kid is shooting up heroin. As a father myself, I'd be heartbroken if this ever happens to me and my child. Not because I'm pro-drug war/prohibition (I'm actually very anti-drug war). I suppose I'd wanna know why my kid started using. Is there something going on that I don't know about that's really bothering him? It wouldn't be, "how dare you break the law and use street drugs?!" More like, "What's bothering you son? Let me know if there's anything I can do to help. I've been there myself. Don't be afraid to let me know, I won't get upset."

The point I'm trying to make is that the mother really loves her daughter, could possibly pass for a control freak, but a good mother nonetheless in that she wants what's best for her child. She's just going about it the wrong way IMO. And I can understand her being afraid about her daughter passing away, especially considering the ridiculous war on drugs propaganda that's been fed to Americans for the past 40+ years. I'd cut her some slack on this one.

I had the police kick in my door and take me away about 14 months ago because my mom called the local psych ward here from 1400 miles away and told them that I was bipolar and on meth, acting crazy!

Meanwhile, I'm completely fine one morning, sitting on the couch and drinking a cup of coffee when they knocked on my door...

I didn't answer and wasn't making any noise at all and then they kicked the door in, guns drawn, and took me to the mental hospital because my mother, who hadn't seen me in 4 months said I was acting crazy on drugs!

I went there and was immediately given a court date 11 days from that day on which I would have to prove I was sane in order to not be held indefinitely! The hatred that I felt for the law, my family and the injustice and equality that goes unseen...oh man!

They tried to claim I was on drugs and manic...I passed the urine test...I refused every medication, was sleeping the whole night through and not even acting remotely "off"!

apparently, my parents had hired a weasely ass lawyer that was helping them claim I was on drugs and crazy and threatening to sue them if they released me and anything bad happened!

Luckily, I had a few friends with a little bit of money to help me out...I called a friend, he called a lawyer and wired him a grand to take my case...Well, it didn't even come close to going to court! Within one hour of that lawyer making the phone call I was released, and they waved the 5000+ dollar bill they were gonna stick me with for kidnapping me for 5 days! It's so easy to have someone held indefinitely if you have family members just say "you're on drugs and acting crazy", I don't think people even realize!

I'm in my 30s!

Wow, this is amazing. I feel for you.
It must have been an awful experience, and it must be painful to have your family turn on you.
I hope that you are okay now.

Bromley is like 20 minutes away from me, I know multiple people who have had this done to them, either through there parents or got caught by the cops and were ordered jail or treatment

A few stayed clean, a few died, a few are on maintenance, but sadly the majority relapsed and are again badly addicted to this day

Problem is there are so many strung out people around here and there are not many rehab/detox/treatment facilities yet but the city right to the north is flooded with quality raw h
You can't even buy rigs otc here any more, even though we are way up in NKY, but I guess that southern back alley needle user stigma is still attached.
While young suburban kids are shooting up and dying almost every day in there homes or where ever...

There are more methadone clinics than treatment centers I think

See this is the exact reason I keep a gun in every room in the house and two in the car. No one and I mean no one is taking my drugs from me until I get my fix. I think my mom would be too scared to pull some shit like that and just wouldnt out of human decency. My mum is so nice shes going to the store right now to pick up my scrip and some needles while she goes grocery shopping. Plus it saves us gas as a family.

The situation in the article was messed up. She should have at least let her daughter shoot up before having her commited. Id be alot less pissed about going to treatment if I was high then if I was dopesick. But I wouldnt go to treatment anyways. I dont have a habit, I just gotta have it, ya know.

Something tells me it may have been clever word-play.

Yes. I am clever. Its on old phrase.

I dont got a habit, I just gotta have it.

Clearly I have a drug habit.

My mother says to me "please dopemaster dont go bonkers today, just dont, please, its not alot to ask, ok, so your cool right, no bonkers today, maybe some food and sleep, here let me turn on the tv, you should try playing xbox, dont kill the pets." Bonkers is the word she chooses to use to describe me in a state of severe drug withdrawals and desperation for drugs. I kinda wish she would use a word that didnt make me laugh every time she says it. It usually works when she lays that guilt trip on me like that cuz even if I am really sick I do my best not to take it out on anyone else. The thing I feel worse about is when she cooks a meal and I cant even eat it cuz I wouldnt be able to hold the food down. She seems to take it so personally when I cannot eat. I pay the rent here. She asked if she could live with me due to her circumstances but all the same its my mother, so she has this super power to make me feel guilty and we all know drug addicts have a notorious lack of guilt. Im gonna have to ask her to stop saying "bonkers." Its just too funny of a word. I cant really get what shes saying cuz I burst out laughing as soon as she says bonkers.

This is stupid. It is the same difference as filing a 202A. Which is minus drug rehabilitation and replace it with psych rehab.

Fuck this. Whoever the fuck Casey is, fuck them too.

Your mother picks up rigs and shit for you?
I can't say I haven't seen worse

I've seen a person shoot up his own mother with her 5 year old daughter standing right there in the same room
I had to fucking get out of there quick, even though I was sick and wanting to fix up, I waited till I got home where no one was watching, especially not my mother or any little children

This all happened not even 15 minutes from Bromley/Ludlow KY

I pick up groceries for her and do her errands some time. Same thing. Its like running errands for each other. Its more of a "hey while your out running errands can you do this" type of thing.

Its not like I ask her to go to the dope man, though I had a friend whose mom used to go buy him crack everyday at 9 am. She would throw it in the corner and he would just go chasing after it like a cat chases any thing that moves fast.

The parent's job is first to keep the child alive. I can completely understand what the mom was thinking.

I still can't wrap my mind around what the mom was thinking.

Let's say my parents were to see me shoot heroin, or whatever.. doesn't really matter.

Instead of being like "no moar drugs 4 u, off 2 rehab u go", I'd rather them sit down with me, and have a heart to heart. I'd appreciate them asking why I'm doing what I'm doing, what made me feel like I had to do this or whatever, etc.

I think that parents have this alien disconnection from their children the second drugs become involved. It doesn't seem to happen with sex, or other adult-type content, but as soon as drugs become involved, it's as if you can't even give your child a hug until the drugs aren't a factor anymore. And where the fuck does that come from?

Parents need to have better relationships with their children, so that they don't have to force anyone into rehab. If you had the ideal relationship with your child, you could encourage them to go, or at least set boundaries, such as "I can't keep financially supporting you and your habit unless you make some changes..." etc.

As a child, if I notice one of my parents has a drug problem, do I get to force them off into rehab? Surely the answer is no. Someone else may force them into it if I bring it up as a child to say a teacher or whatever.... but think about it.... I don't think it's right to force someone into rehab who isn't ready to go.

Their job is SURVIVAL.

I'm sure we've all heard this before: "You can lead a horse to water but you cannot make it drink."

Forcing someone into rehab is like forcing a horse into water to the point where it's fucking drowning. Sure, it might end up drinking some water, but it won't be able to breathe while it's being drowned... :\

That is the entire point I'm getting at. Forcing someone into rehab is exactly like drowning the thirsty but stubborn horse, instead of encouraging it to drink water on its own accord.

I'm not bashing anyone; I'm just stating facts. I think maintenance is a great thing, but it's not the same as being clean.

Everyone is entitled to their own definition of "clean", but how is using a maintenance drug like methadone or suboxone, and staying off heroin, for instance... how is that not being clean?

^ this is why forcing people into rehab is a bad idea.

Even if it's a "good thing" 99% of the time (and I fail to see that as a reality; on principle, it's never a good thing IMO)... what about instances like this?

It's inhumane to let something like this happen to anyone IMO.

Man, if only dope grew on trees, oh wait..

If I was patient enough, and better at art/making gif's, I'd create an animated .gif where you could watch the poppy grow, get processed into heroin, packaged/distributed, dealt to the user, then prepared and used. That would be one hell of a trippy animated .gif, and would make for one kick ass avatar.

In an ideal family, this is how things would work.
But many people - like, maybe half - are completely brainwashed to be anti-drug.
They believe that using heroin = death.
Even if they see someone hasn't died yet, they think it is inevitable.
So, I think she was simply protecting her child in the way that she knew, based on what made sense to her.
