Maybe he rolls in different circles or something? IIRC, he's a philo major. (If I'm wrong, I probably confused him with someone with a similar username) and the circles you roll in tend to affect that.

I.e. As I said above, most of the people in the I'm circles I'm/my close friends find the hard sciences hot, and find bad assery/combat arms(inf,eng,arty,armd) soldiers/similar(anyone else who usually operates on the forward edge of battle space) hot. The first one fails to hold to true in like the arts community, the second one is a huge turn off in the, um, weed smoking, sandal wearing, unshowered hippy community (which overlaps with the arts community.)

I find musician a bit of turn off personally. Like not a huge turn off, but the person would *have* to make up for it to grab my interest/have something else going on. If their life was music, I'd more or less say "NOPE!".
 
Surgeons are better with their hands, particularly when it comes to manipulating the human body with their hands.

Luckily, I has a surgeon in training, so fuck yeah, not only is she awesome with her hands, her ability to use her brain is also excellent. Something noticeably lacking in the (popular) musician types.

Aah rangrz you can't expect sympathetic understanding and a civil discussion if you're gonna say that. It's a different kind of intelligence, but it takes quite a bit of creative genius to write a fair number of music pieces. Many of which I'd be happy to point you towards.

I completely respect that you are NOT into musicians but seriously they can be smart!
My boyfriend is a DJ and he does software engineering ... he is really smart.

I seriously don't only have a thing for DJs, that is not WHY I like my boyfriend, I didn't know that about him when I met him. I met him at this computer programming contest thing.

I think it's kinda cool that we all realized that it's not so much "everyone" likes a certain type of person (like a stereotypical athlete or musician) but it's more what a person is passionate about. We can clearly see that when rangrz is mainly into super intellectuals and Pagey and I are into specific *different* types of musicians. Being a guitarist doesn't turn me on. Techno DJ? A bit more. :p

@Llama: Well, if I had to pick the type of musician I find hottest, it would be the same as you. DJing is pretty cool, I enjoy a lot of electronic music, and I can appreciate the sort of technical skill involved in producing it. (For whatever it's worth, three of my engineer buddies use to spin in clubs, a neurosurgical resident I know also does from time to time and ditto with an OR/MAX. Of course, they obviously also pursue other things. I know Ms.G wants to get into it as well.)

Being a musician does not equate with being a dumb ass, of course not. I would actually say that most of the DJ's I've met are pretty smart. On the other hand, guitarists have generally left me truly underwhelmed in terms of their capacity to so much as figure out to split a multi-party dinner bill including tip.

What can I say? I don't like that style of music at all, nor the artists who do it. Don't feel too bad, I've told Ms.G that the only way I'd get off from doing something her preferred musicians (namely, singers in bands like Taking Back Sunday.) would be if I was dragging a blade though their trachea. :D

I fucking HATE emo boys. Even more than I dislike classic rockers.

yeah you're right, i have my degree in philosophy but am studying engineering; so yeah i'm kind of an introvert by trade and because of that i have introverted friends. Not many girls want to stick around and watch me jam out some old jazz standards lol. They'd be special if they did though that's for sure, but not a common occurrence especially if my solo guy goes out on some strange bebop shit.

i know girls find rock stars sexy but i dont' think girls find coltrane sexy or bird or any jazz musician lol.

and shit if you're looking of an example of intellectual music, look no further than jazz and especially bebop, the stuff is mind blowing and even today is ever evolving into more complex genres. It's more intellectually appealing to me than classical music by far. The musician almost becomes pure expression at some point and something transcendental in my mind (at least when i listen to coltrane while tripping :) )

you could say the same for psychedelic music but even so bebop is extremely technical and so is jazz in general.
