omnomnom

I actually dunno what they are, they're just rolls that are real nice. There's nothing Scottish nor morningish about em

I've got a grill full of Quornages and Cauldrages and a Roll to ensconce them. Lashings of mustard and washed down with vimto.

Is it a Scotch roll though, Knock? Presumably yes no matter what type of roll it is. I like "Scotch rolls". No idea what makes them Scotch though. They've not even been battered and fried :?

Currently eating Pot Noodle. Chili beef variety. Though what aspect of beef is involved I dread to think.

Made a large tuna pasta bake, 3 cans of tuna, pack of fuselli, peppers, and a can of sweetcorn, can of them sloppy tomatoes, chilli powder, tobasco. nom

Three tins of tuna? Blimey that's decadent.

Why are there no fish similar to tuna? Tuna costs a bastard fortune now and I'd rather not assist in extincting 'em either. But there's no other fish that I can think to use as a replacement. Is there a pollock of the tuna world out there somewhere?

It's more of an English Bap of the wholemeal variety than a Scottish (Scotch?!?) Roll, which is always white. Tesco don't do proper Scottish Rolls for some reason but Asda do, don't understand it, massive Tesco here with more variety than Asda in all other regards but has a blind spot for the rolls.

(just checked wiki and English Baps may not be a thing. I dunno! It's not a Scottish Roll though.)

Pot Noodles are veggie so the beef is of the imaginary variety :)

How's the hangover now you've medicated?

I just decided to make breakfast, dinner and tea all in one its for the whole day dont worry ;) Had been there for a good while, sell by date a good month ago, anyway "Dolphin friendly" it states

Dolphin friendly is all well and good but is still definitely tuna unfriendly. They on the endagered list, no? Or is that only one of the species? Overfished and pricey anyway.

Also very tasty and handy to have in the storecupboard. Never had troutling to compare so dunno of that is a potential pollock. Needs to be a firm-textured fish that can be tinned if it's gonna give a passable impression of tuna really.

Hangover has actually eased a bit after Pot Noodle. They definitely help. Although it is possible that painkillers may also have played a supporting role.

In Scotch roll news, they are definitely called Scotch rolls as seems to be the case with any foodstuff sold as Scottish. Scotch broth, Scotch pies, Scotch rolls. Scotch. Whatever they're called they're very tasty baps. Soft and floury but with a nice chewy crust. Yummy.

Yeah but here it's just pie, roll, broth. Actually broth is (sometimes) scotch broth but a pie is just a pie :) There is only one type, so a "roll and pie" is unambiguous. Facebook gets it wrong! That's not a pie, it's a steak pie...

This is a roll and pie, or a pie roll:

That would make sense. Dunno why they're all called "Scotch" rather than "Scottish" though. Except thanks to wiki I now do...

The verb scotch is unrelated to the noun, and is not related to "Scotland". It derives from Anglo-French escocher meaning "to notch, nick", from coche, "a notch, groove", extended in English to mean "to put an abrupt end to", with the forms "scotched", "scotching", "scotches". For example: "The prime minister scotched the rumours of her illness by making a public appearance." Also in the traditional children's game of "hopscotch" (known as "peevers" in Scotland) refers to the lines one hops over.

Live and learn, eh?

EDIT: Luvving the pie roll =D

Although that's not what's sold as "Scotch rolls" down here...

Re-EDIT: Yes they are...

très interessant, monsieur

edit: I'm not sure about that roll, I think a Scot(tish)ch roll should have a fluffier texture, a bit like candy floss, and less like sponge.

Candy floss! Not had that in fucking ages.
