Seeing as I've made a concerted decision to contribute more... here's my lovely, if slightly deranged face

mail

Which is absolutely massive, but I'm a bit fuzzy at the moment and resizing is beyond my capability and effort capacity right now!

We can't see you, mrcientist, as it's a link to your gmail, I think. If you upload the pic to imgur.com or a similar service and link to that then we could see your deranged face!

Damn, I suspected I'd done it wrong! :/ I shall get a successfully picture sorted once I'm in a fit state tomorro morning =D

^ Quit the excuses. I'm sure your face isn't that deranged. It can't be any worse than Albions, so you have nothing to lose.

Didn't you bodily remove me from a pub once or twice, Bear?!? :D;)<3

Where's the location this time? If you don't mind me asking? Looks Middle Eastern. But also quite nice.

Your spot on mate - Middle East again (this was Bahrain) :) - I have a few around the region - Dubai, Doha etc. It's been a few years since I had to 'bodily remove somebody from a club though :D.

Heard a Middle Eastern news story t'other day which really did shock me. Was Saudi, mind, so suppose I should've known. Anyhoo, some bloke stabbed his mate in a fight when they were 14 and he's been in jail for the decade since. Fairy muff. Then it gets weird. The bloke he stabbed is paralysed as a result of the stabbing so demanded compensation... which the bloke doesn't have cos he's been in prison since his mid-teens. So the Saudi courts have decided if he doesn't pay up he should be paralysed instead. Talk about "an eye for an eye". Yowzers 8o

It's for reasons like this - and many others - I would not/could not visit certain parts of the Middle East on principle. One man's justice is another man's barbarsism :\

That and the Dubai poppy seed thing. Fuck they're harsh 8o

But apparently Saudi women are now allowed to ride bikes (and even motorbikes 8o) in public. As long as they're suitably attired and accompanied by a male relative. Ack. I just could not bring myself to contribute to some economies no matter how pretty the scenery is. Nor how sexy the camels are. Fortunately I contribute to no economy so makes little difference. But worth a minor rant all the same :D

Good rant.

I knew they still amputate limbs and appendages over there. I'd never heard of paralysing as a punishment. That's fucking awful. Not that I'm saying severing body parts is okay....

Is it a punishment they mete out regularly, or have they just thought it up for this one particular crime?

That's fucking horrible.

Ya. The limb-chopping is almost "acceptable" compared to the state deliberately paralysing somebody unless they can cough up $250,000 compensation to the victim. I know they go in for all that "eye for an eye" stuff inna big way but... paralysis? Really? Have never heard of this particular punishment before. Case has been going on for a long time so may well be a new low for 'em :\
