B9's Quaint Olde Tea Shoppe vs. Pass the scones

Do you not like tea?

I had tea foisted upon me from a young age, musta drunk a cup a day til I got to about, I dunno, 18 or something. Then I started drinking coffee & at this time I also came to live in England. Being a bit fucking anti-establishment by then, I was horrified by how ubiquitous tea drinking is in the UK so, along with most of our societys other irritatting addctions (alcohol, tobacco, cars, houses) I decided to eschew as many of them as possible. I drunk coffee for the next few decades almost exclusively. It seemed as if the only time I got offered & accepted a cuppa it was this tepid, pale cup of tastless dredge I find more pleasure soking my testies in.

THEN! Not more than a year ago, following something of a long, "fun" time I found that coffee was increasing my anxiety & depression, especially in the morning (but not as much as alcohol, which I've also quit recently) so I decided to switch to tea for awhile. I found making my own has greatly increased my enjoyment of it. I found that instead of getting me up & at it in the morning, tea rather mellowed, sometimes even counteracting my morning anxiety. I make small, light cups, gently sugared with no milk. I've been using soya milk since the mid-90's after being advised by health workers to remove dairy from my diet (I'm asthmatic) but soya milk does NOT work in tea (imo) so it's black tea for me.

I've since got something of a handle on my anxiety & it's errrrr "causes", & now that alcohol is almost entirely removed from my diet, I'm back on soya coffee. My 20 year hatred of tea has departed but I still only have it in the evening when I fancy a hot drink but don't want even a minor coffee buzz.

Y'know, I always set out to write a brief, concise post here on BL & I always ramble on for fucking ages! Sorry! Lol

Personally I think it tastes like ass but...

HEATHEN

Good. More tea for the true believers.

I agree with you here.

I don't like tea. I'm not Brit but I live here so I'm including myself. I don't like bacon either. =D

Boo, hiss. The Frenchies are notoriously bad at tea. I'm sorry but it's true. All that Lipton bunk. HEATHEN.

The taste seems nothing special to me don't really see what the fuss is all about, tastes a bit earthy, not really in a good way. I can drink the stuff but my stomach seems to hate it; end up really nauseous about 10 mins after if I ever do have any.

HEATHEN

Love the taste, but can't tolerate caffeine, so had to stop drinking it.

I feel for you, man, same thing happened to me for about two years. It was horrible. There's decaf tea but it tasted really odd back then, don't know if they've improved it at all recently.

I Mix Builders with yogi tea classic, that way I get the strong taste with the great eastern spices.

There is even a tea now by Tetley IIRC, that has an extra 60mg caffiene added,so it gives you a coffee hit in a teabag

Genius

Suspicious of this, but support the general principle of a STRONG TASTE.

Tea and E in the morning is an old favourite of mine at all night/next morning parties.

Interestingly Ive eaten bacon about once or twice since I left the UK 2 years ago. Not a fan of it anymore!

For the record, I wouldnt call myself a brit. It makes me think of those strange people with the bunting that celebrate royal weddings and sorts....

Hurrah!

tea in the morning makes me sick.

earl grey after midday = good.

Yuck, no thanks! Earl Grey's vile. I spat on his statue when I visited Newcastle for the first time.

Not a tea fan. Energy drinks all the way (yeah, fuck off! :D).

Eurrrgh. HEATHEN. WASTEMAN.

I am a tea FANATIC; I import Tetleys since the tea selection available in German grocery stores (and US ones also for that matter) is weak and crap.
...
How do you all take your tea? I like mine with whole milk and honey.

Wonderful person. I have mine with semi-skimmed. The water has to be really properly boiling or you get that weird scum on the surface, the tea doesn't brew properly or taste right and has to be tipped down the sink.

Milk and one sugar. Is undrinkable without sugar or with more than one sugar.

True!

^Agree. I used to be a 2 sugar person, toned down to a one now, or 3/4. Without sugar it just dosent taste the same

Exactly this.

Coffee first thing in the morning, teas then after.

If you've not drunk a nice cuppa when you've got hme after a big night out on MD (preferably sat on the wall somewhere outside) then you've not done tea properly.

Seriously my squirrel loving friends, tea after MD is the cats pyjamas.

This also!

I'm sorry, but i fucking love tea

Hurray! I love you!

Not a fan of hot beverages in general.

Infact, I always decline when offered a tea or coffee.
(Unless they be buying from a cafe or something).

Oh Nish, what can we do with you? I don't know whether I hate the fact that you don't drink tea or group it in with coffee as 'hot beverages in general' the most. HEATHEN.

I didn't know people didn't like tea.

Really people don't like it!?! Really!?! :?

This too.

Im afraid that I do like tea

Hooray! You rock!

No apologies here, tea is the fucking tits. What's truly nauseating is how many of you druggies don't like it!

Drugs + Tea = my personal heaven.

Hooray! You're amazing.

^ About fucking time. Well said.

Fucking orange. Like that bobby dazzler bloke after an extra hour under the tan thing.

Correct again!

FOR CHRIST's SAKE HAVE A CUP OF TEA: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfRzBfYpyuA

Crikey! You been busy! I take mine back & I apologise fror JAN post! Touch of obsession showing there Jan!

Hahahah, it's my DOC. I'm passionate / rabid / in love with it.

My gf did remark last night that my teeth are a bit less white than they could be. I drink slightly less than I once did, but I once drank in the region of ten pints a day of the stuff. Now it's more like six.

I'm not a fan of tea at all but I did get 2 cups made for me last weekend while sitting feeling rather rough & I have to admit that it squared me up a wee bit. Still prefer a rapid black as a muthafucka coffee but I don't think that would have helped the situation, the tea seemed to soothe the hangover pain & re-energise me at the same time. Final opinion = tastes pish, does the job.

2 cups of tea, 2 rolls & sausage & I was good to go - round the shop for more Wine.

Assam does it for me =D

SHM you old charmer you <3 to you. And i nice teapot i must say, quite tempted by the red one, only £20from amazon.

£20 well spent my friend, trust me. We paid £25. Or rather she did, then crapped herself because she thought I'd have a go at her for wasting money. You don't waste money on a proper teapot.
