Your favorite songs about drugs? I'll share some of mine

Awesome! Thanks for sharing everyone. Some of these I haven't heard before so that's cool, I'm always looking for new tunes :)

Here's another classic:

Heroin - The Velvet Underground

Also I like The Velvet Underground's I'm Waiting for The Man. I always thought it was so funny that he sings stuff that I could SO relate to like, "He's never early, he's always late, first thing you learn is that you always gotta wait," and, "I'm waiting for my man, $26 in my hand," which I surmise is because he is short on a $30 ;)

The Exploding Hearts - Sniffin' Glue

YES! The Exploding Hearts were amazing. They had the power pop/punk sensibilities well in order. A shame about what happened to most of them.

Swimming Dancer, that number (and album) will always be a drug classic for me. Granted, when I first heard it I had yet to take the plunge, but I have such intense, visceral memories of listening to it in the pitch blackness of my side yard, on my headphones, stoned outta my gourd, and getting the absolute chills when he sings the line and all the dead bodies piled up in mounds, followed by dat cacophony. Phew! Powerful, that.

This is my drug song for the last 4 months, even though I cleaned up my act substantially. But for those fuck-it nights I still dabble:

And I know it makes me a Nazi to say it, but I cannot stand Under the Bridge by the Chili Peppers.... but I cannot stand most of their stuff. Their massive success and popularity will always perplex me. That song totally ruined the high art of doing skag under a bridge, cos if you are w/ someone they will always bring the goddamned song up, and from there I just feel a total tool ;)

How you cannot stand the RHCP will always perplex me, lol. I love most of their stuff. I guess maybe it depends on the context you heard it under / heard people talking about it under. I've never heard anyone talking about Under The Bridge while doing dope under a bridge, and I have been listening to that song since right when it came out in 1992 so it has good memories attached to it :)

Song that most accurately depicts substance abuse?

I couldn't find a thread like this already, so I decided to post one.

Out of all the songs you've ever heard about substance abuse, what song most accurately depicts it? Through the lyrics, the feeling, the tone, and the overall sound of the song..

I'd have to say the song "St.Ides Heaven" by Elliott Smith depicts amphetamine use better than any other song about drug abuse, at least that I've ever heard.

I've been out haunting the neighborhood
And everybody can see I'm no good
When I'm walking out between parked cars
With my head full of stars
High on amphetamines
The moon is a light bulb breaking
It'll go around with anyone

Talking Heads - Burning Down the House

Totally about crack addiction I would say..

Watch out you might get what you're after
Boom babies strange but not a stranger
I'm an ordinary guy
Burning down the house

Hold tight wait till the party's over
Hold tight We're in for nasty weather
There has got to be a way
Burning down the house

Here's your ticket pack your bag: time for jumpin' overboard
The transportation is here
Close enough but not too far,
Maybe you know where you are
Fightin' fire with fire

All wet hey you might need a raincoat
Shakedown dreams walking in broad daylight
Three hun-dred six-ty five de-grees
Burning down the house

It was once upon a place sometimes I listen to myself
Gonna come in first place
People on their way to work baby what did you except
Gonna burst into flame

My house's out of the ordinary
That's might don't want to hurt nobody
Some things sure can sweep me off my feet
Burning down the house

No visible means of support and you have not seen nuthin' yet
Everything's stuck together
I don't know what you expect starring into the TV set
Fighting fire with fire

according to wiki this song is heavily influenced by amphetamine psychosis

this is one of those songs you've heard all your life(dat riff) and if like me, took yeaaaarrs to finally discover the title of

rolling stones - can't you hear me knockin'?

One of my favourite songs, period.

First verse:

Life for me is just weed and brews
See the hoes flock to you when your name is Q
Am I over-faded? Hell yeah it's true
Turn a beat on, ain't no limit to what I can do
See this Top Dawg in heat, but I'm a fuck the world
I'mma be on tunes 'til God re-furls
You sat me down, I'm still tryna get higher
You looked at me stupid when I twisted the fire
Meanwhile my nigga drunk as fuck
A nigga fucked up, we all fucked up
You done fucked up, I brought more blunts
Smoke back to up, you niggas know what's up
Too damn high, can't stand myself
I love drunk driving, man I'm something else
Heat on my side, you're more than welcome to melt
I'm 'bout to finish a pound, you're more welcome to help

I've lied an' I've stole an' I ain't fuckin' jokin':
It must've been them pills I took.
Yeah, the mirrors are all busted an' someone's cryin':
It must've been them pills I took.

Phil's a great guy, wish these guys come play in London sometime soon

This the place - Red Hot Chili Peppers

This is the place where all
The junkies go
Where time gets fast
But everything gets slow

Can I get some Vaseline?
Step into a modern scene
Take a chance on that which seems to be
The making of a dream

I don't wanna do it
Like my daddy did
I don't wanna give it
To my baby's kid

This is my calling
I said my darling
Shocking, appalling
All I can do to you

Hammers are falling
I said my darling
Shocking, appalling
All I can do to you

This is the place where all
The devils plead
Their case to take from you
What they need

Can I isolate your gene?
Can I kiss your dopamine?
In a way I wonder
If she's living in a magazine

I don't wanna say it
If it isn't so
I don't wanna weigh it
But I've got to know

This is my calling
I said my darling
Shocking, appalling
All I can do to you

Hammers are falling
I said my darling
Shocking, appalling
All I can do to you

I saw you out there yesterday
What did you wanna say?
A perfect piece of DNA
Caught in a flashing ray

I caught you out there in the fray
What did you wanna say?
A master piece of DNA
Caught in a flashing ray

Can I smell your gasoline?
Can I pet your wolverine?
On the day my best friend died
I could not get my copper clean

I don't wanna take it up
With little Joe
I don't wanna fake it
But I've gotta know

This is my calling
I said my darling
Shocking, appalling
All I can do to you

Hammers are falling
I said my darling
Shocking, appalling
All I can do to you

I am a misfit
I'm born with all of it
The fucking ultimate
Of love inside the atom split

I'm in a flash ray
A mash of DNA
Another popping Jay
Who thinks he's got something to say

Everyday I hear
Addictions calling me
Have I gone insane
Hear it

Fixated on the need
To pollute my brain
Feed it

Now the timeline's set
I can see it all
I must not forget
How god awful

Everyday I see
I see throught the lie
The lie tha tburies me
See it

I pay my dues in time
No one pushes me
Take what I need
Take it

Feel
I always feel the pain
Suffer
It's what I do everyday

Everday I feel
I feel it paralyze
Inside I want to die
Feel it
Forever in my arms
It's a part of me
I don't want to be

Feel
I always feel the pain
Suffer
It's what I do everyday

All I have left is my suffering

Now the timeline's set
I can see it all
I must not forget
How god awful

Feel
I always feel the pain
Suffer
It's what I do everyday
