Yeah same goes for a lot of economy stuff, especially meat related products. Chicken nuggets spring to mind, dread to think what they put in them. Certainly aint no chicken like I've ever come across before, and what do most parents do? Fill their kids faces with the things. Grr. Sorry, really get's my goat.

I had a fishfinger sandwich with rocket and tartare sauce, was good.

Rocket and tartare sauce? What are you, middle bleedin' class or something? Tomato ketchup like wot normal people put on 'em not good enough for you? I spit on your horrid fish finger concoction, how the fuck salad even comes into the equation I DO NOT KNOW!? Madness! :p

Boring tonight, chili pasta but I did super good last night. Home-made tarka dal and chapatis. Only the third time I've made it, proper impressed with me little self, it was nyom. Was a bit braver with the spicing in the tarka and my chapatis came out soft instead of hard like the last coupla times. Not quite restaurant standard but good as some take-aways I've had for a fraction of the price, massive bowl for dinner, coupla trays of it left for the freezer. Tempted to take one out of the freezer and eat it all over again but then I'll starve tomorrow, on freezer rations till Monday ( pay-day, huzzah! )

Some economy stuff is fine - I go for the economy beans for taste rather than necessity, for example. But don't buy much economy stuff really cos it is often a bit dire. Would rather buy stuff reduced to save pennies. Do try to buy decent quality bread, cheese and ham (or similar) though. Not MM standards, obviously, but the best I can reasonably afford. Some things really are a false economy.

I would rather buy less for decent quality than have loads of crap. I agree some economy things are just fine. It's the economy meaty stuffs that I can't go for. Not that I eat meat anymore but when I did and I still have to shop for two raging carnivores. I think a lot of people would be surprised at the price of a decent butcher when compared to tesco as I think the butcher sells at a reasonable price. Quality is clear from the minute you walk in and the taste blows any supermarket stuff out of the water.

Poached poultry periods for brekky? I don't know how folk can even face the smell of 'em let alone eat 'em 8(

I'm sure they're just dandy really. As long as you have no functioning sense of taste or smell :D;)<3

CWE seems to have just kicked in so brekky time. Gotta coupla cheese, bacon and mustard panini thingies cheap yesterday. I know they're basically just Rustler's for those with middle class pretensions and underclass tastes... but I rather like 'em. Well, at 50p each I like 'em anyway. And yes, buying some decent bacon would've been better. But I didn't cos decent bacon ain't cheap. Is another of those things not really worth skimping on so is a fairly rare treat. Instamicrobaconbutties don't count cos I just decided they don't :p

My Teriyaki chicken wings :) - they may look overcooked but it's the sugar in the marinade (my story anyway).

Why is it that whenever I take photos of my food it looks like a forensic murder scene, while Bearlove's pics could be featured on lifestyle magazines.

What camera do you use?

I love Tarka Dal - Its so cheap to make, really healthy and fills you up at the same time. Top it with some crispy fried onions / garlic and it tastes great :).

Craving cake like a motherfucker :sus:

The road my bus goes down to get to sainsbury's is closed though, and the bus now misses my stop out completely, meaning that if I want cake I'll have to work for it.

Shut UUUUUUUP Bearlove. Your photos are well beyond mouthwatering.

:D - it was missing my normal flourish of sesame seeds !

It's a Nikon D90 :) - I would love a decent close up/macro lens but too lazy to buy one. These were hot of the grill so still had that shine to them :)

Yeh, I guess! :P But I'm poor.

Grats on the daal though, Indian food in particular I find a real grower- once you get to takeaway standard the drive to push it further kicks in, and you can get extremely critical and obsessive about how the current one isn't as good as the last one and quite down in the dumps about results which previously would have thrilled you. Ghee makes a big difference in my opinion.

I love Indian / Pakistani food - I probably cook more Indian food than anything else. I personally don't use Ghee as its just so heavy but find that frying your whole spices first makes a massive difference. You may already know of this spice so ignore my ramblings but a pinch of Asafoetida gives such an amazing flavor :) My fella HATES it though (that and Fenurgreek) so I have to omit it from my curries.

Agreed, definitely, 100%. I do em on the griddle mainly.

Indeed, just a teeny pinch, though. Apparently it's meant to reduce the activity of the gut flora which make you fart loads after eating bare chickpeas and other pulses, so it has a practical application as well.

Gets off earlier bus - Drops of cake for whoever was fiending cake - gets on new bus to Jancrow's for a curry :). Its used in a lot of cooking and add so much to the taste - smells and tastes horrible 'raw' though.

I'm munching on some popcorn chicken with a sweet chili dip from the local kebab shop, was on the way home from the recovery centre place. I once left my keys inside and had to sit in there for 3 hours till my dad got home and ordered the popcorn chicken then, since then I've been back in at least 5 times to order it again. Now when I go in the woman just says "Usual?" lol :D

Popcorn chicken, eh? That must be the bits that are so nasty they can't even get away with making 'em into burgers, no? ;)

Wonder if it ever crosses a chuck's mind that it will one day be covered in breadcrumbs, deep fried and - just to really take the piss - described as heated vegetable matter. Probably not really. They sell "popcorn chicken" at the Co-Op here. 99p a box. It's enough to make ya wanna turn veggie. Actually it isn't but can't help but notice that chickens get all the shittiest jobs.
