it's a lot harder to escape for 6 years now than it used to be.

if you're signing on, if you have a bank account, if you have any utilities in your name etc, they'll find you and keep up the harassment.

It seems that some people find it unsettling for people to change their names.. There certainly do seem to have been a flurry of changes of late.
Sorry Myshkin lol I really dont recall talking to you before. I don't know where you are getting your information from but I was banned twice once for a week for talking about religion and once for about 4 (???) weeks because I said I would hunt two people down and smash their heads together using 'BANG' to illustrate the noise of said heads smashing together (nirl).... This got interpreted ,in a nutshell, as I was going to get a gun and kill the two people.

In order to explain that I am not an assassin and was misunderstood I used another account. This got me a further ban.

To conclude Myshkin, I was banned twice about a year ago. I'd had two accounts not 'several hundred'.Then during my 4 week ban I popped in once or twice because I missed folks. It really was once or twice though and I knew admin can see cookies/ips etc... I'm just a what the hell kinda gal. :D

Well I like making up new names for how I'm feeling. It looks like fun to me to Myshkin but some people find it disturbing. :(

Never heard of that six year thing. Thanks, Max, will have to look into that. Am still being chased for money I owe in unauthorised overdraft charges from a bank account I last used a good 15 years back now. Got a letter from solicitors just a coupla months ago offering to accept £300 and they'll forget about the other £700 they want. For what was initially a debt of about a hundred quid 8)

I think the problem with name changes is that we are a close knit community that still has to afford itself a certain degree of anonymity. People making alts disrupts that as, even if the owner of the alt makes their identity clear, there are still gonna be those of us who miss the announcement, leading to speculation and paranoia, which is, as I said, not conducive to good relations in a place like this

I think some people just wonder whether it's being done in an attempt to escape a previous disciplinary record. Now that isn't exactly 'disturbing' but it's damn well unfair to those who play by the rules.

I know that's my only concern, anyway. Can't speak for anybody else. Apart from maybe SamhainGrim, but we don't talk often and I like it that way.

Edit: I must confess I had gruesome fantasies of gbh .. toward mr grim as it happens.. But they were only fantasies Cant get banned for dreaming of having someone beaten to a bloody pulp ay?

I actually find that a hell of a lot sadder than your first paragraph to be honest. Far sadder.

Perspective, adulthood and all that...

That's where you have to be careful Shambles.If they say they will accept a smaller payment and write the rest off don't do it.
Reason being that if you do make a payment no matter how small you are then accepting liability for the debt again and then they can legally harass you for the remainder again even if it has been over 6 years.
Best thing to do is Google it and you can find standard letters you can send to the companies or debt collectors asking for proof that the debt is yours which they usually won't have anymore and stating the debt is now statute barred and can they now leave you alone. The law is on yourside.
Research it though as you will be able to find better explanations than I can give.
 
Thanks for the tips, Max. Frankly I've ignored any and all attempts over the last fifteen years from several bailiffs, debt collection agencies and now solicitors trying to get me to cough for that one. I've never replied to a single letter, never spoken to any of their representatives in person or on the phone, never answered the door on the rare occasions whoever currently owned the debt got all keen and actually sent a person rather than just a few threatening letters before reselling the debt on to some other company to try their luck. Never had solicitors before though. The letter specifically stated that they had confirmed that I was the person who owed the money and made the offer. Seemed a bit fishy so didn't respond at all. Not that I was likely to really. I need my money a lot more than bleedin' Halifax do. Not had owt from the solicitors in weeks now so hopefully they were just fishing and hopeful.

Will do a bit of research on the statute barred debts thing now I'm aware of it. Would be nice to stop getting demands for bloody overdraft fees from half a lifetime ago.
 
Kenny do you ever wonder that maybe one person might be using a couple of different names? Or that they are using several different names in several different forums on b/l?

You are one of the last people who should be complaining about alt accounts. This is your fourth account at least.

We know you're not trying to run them simultaneously, neither is Myshkin, neither is SamhainGrin.

If you want the rules to be applied to the letter, that can be arranged, but it would end up with you earning a load more infractions and a temp ban. And none of us, well, almost none of us anyway ;) , want that.

If they are, it is not allowed, and someone should grass on them report them.

Myshkin/SamhainGrim is not even close to the same situation. We know he likes to deny it, but it was a name change, just like mine. One account.

ED: tbh I was just pondering...what if behind bl theres some kind of puppeteer that or punch and judy man that does most of the roles.

I know, you spoke to me, and I said it's fine, and I still think it's fine.

I know you weren't and aren't trying to run them simultaneously.

I thought you were complaining about people's alts. And it just seems a bit rich coming from you. =D

Looks like I was wrong. Sorry. :)
