The EADD Windows Technical Gibberings Thread

what if they are searching your bins as well? :sus:

I cross shred / pulp or burn everything

smash the hard drive up, set fire to it and bury the ashes in a secret location.

Wise words

also put a sticker over your webcam b&w, he has probably been watching you get undressed... again this is what i'd be doing. :sus:

Having a webcam at all is just negligent :sus: would not approve

Do you know I was going to say I imagine its how you'd feel if someone stole your rubbish. Total invasion of privacy.

With my level of skill I'm starting to think it may just be easier to buy a new laptop, and be a damn sight more careful with it in the future.

I don't think he'd use anything against me as such, just completely unbearable to think he may be able to see everything I'm saying & doing. Cuntish.

This is probably the best approach if it looks badly compromised, I'd bin the hard drive as well for the sake of :sus:

I got caught with that Police e Crime Unit virus screen locker thing at the weekend, bastard posed as a Java update or summit, wasn't paying enough attention.

Had to pay up the £100 via UKash to get it unlocked

not

Do you not remember when rockstar did that? (Sure it was him) was on some dodgy porno site and a huge pop up came "E-CRIME UNIT YOU ARE BEING MONITERED" , and his webcam came on and a picture of himself came onto his PC what that big message in capitals, he actually ended up ringing the local police as he just had to tell them that he wasnt looking at any pedo material and it was all a mistake.

Surely them posts havent been deleted... Best of EADD material...

Betcha picked up "nudnik" from Judge Judy, Cornish. I know cos I did too :D

That aside, I can offer no technical advice for obvious reasons. That and this thread gives me the wilies cos is exactly the kinda scenario that cost me two PCs in the past. So my advice would be that if you suspect shenanigans are afoot with yer pooter best to avoid trying to "fix it" or deal with it in any way, shape or form whilst indulging in an extended peev run :|

Was going to say as a temporary fix if you're really paranoid just turn off your Internet. Other posts cover most things though. I would probably just do a fresh install to be honest as people have said just for ease of mind. Unless you've noticed massive slow down on your computer it's probably something like a keylogger if anything.

You really don't need a new laptop. A reinstall of Windows will wipe everything off. Avast! and Malwarebytes are enough for me. Spybot is another to use. They'll pick up most things, in my experience. Hijack This is another, which will list anything running. Some spying programs will run undetected, as already said (I have prior knowledge of this). Just back up everything (pictures, music, videos - not programs, really) and wipe your laptop, then copy your stuff back over. Ask, if you need help.

The guy sounds like a nudnik.

Or a schmuck if you will. (practicing Yiddish)

lol youve got chutzpah cornish :)

Now you mention it it has been incredibly slow, I was just saying to someone I dont understand it as its not that old and I don't download much at all. That might just explain it...

Thanks Treacle, I think that exactly what I'm going to do. Tomorrow I'm going to get an external harddrive, and Im sure if my friend can't help me I'll be back in this thread begging for help again. You guys are all great.

To remove all paranoia, simply format your harddrive and reinstall windows.

how much stuff do you have that you don't wanna lose? 1-5gb of photos or whatever, just upload it somewhere. Google has a file storing service now, think you get a 5gb limit, there's minus.com.... 80gb of music may be a problem and require a drive.

Basically there is only one answer to this and that is to completely wipe the drives and start with a clean install, from fresh sources, otherwise you'll be paranoid forever. It's a total waste of time doing anything else.

Clone the drive first, the partition table and everything not just copying files, so you can still examine it safely later to look for anything dodgy, but treat everything on it as if it's infected.

I would make backups of your router settings so you can check them for anything odd aswell, before resetting the firmware and reconfiguring it.

Thats interesting, it really is just photos and a few documents. Thanks.

Thanks Ceres. i've just emailed the person who I hope is going to help me and told them to have a look at this thread and all your suggestions.

^ That was precisely the neverending pooter problem that I seemed to have, Ben. Formatting did shit all no matter how many times I tried it nor what software I used to format it. As soon as I reinstalled an OS I had all the same ol' problems and alterations from the getgo. Was told repeatedly that that wasn't possible. Nice to know that it is. Well, shite that it is really but nice to know there's a possibility I didn't imagine the whole thing. I may have imagined the whole thing. I know damn well I didn't. I no longer give much of a toss one way or t'other. But still nice to see that everything I said was happening I've since discovered is entirely possible. Think I've had to come to the same unfortunate conclusion as that fella (boss of Sun Microsystems, I think?): "Online privacy is dead. Get over it.".

It really is scary what folk with the knowledge can do to a unsuspecting innocent computer user. The gulf of knowledge between virus writers and the average web user is very vast indeed. I feel sorry for unsuspecting folk just wanting to surf the web being exploited and possible being involved in criminal activity. I think my computer is clean and safe, but is it? All I know is if it was happening I don't have the skill or knowledge to even realise it's happening let alone go about removing it. So like you say Shambles may just get on with it.

You say this like it's a bad thing. haa.

If you're really paranoid. Just run from a liveCD. No need for a HDD and as soon as you hit the power button everything is gone.
