Mental health services are shite, Urb. Not their fault as they're just overworked and underfunded but fact remains they're shite. Have known plenty peeps who really do need support in that area and get none at all or extremely limited (scripted and left to their own devices even though it's well known that folk in such situations are often unwilling or unable to take the meds properly). Is a sad state of affairs and people like that Roger chap often fall through the cracks. Damn good probation officer he had there though - not many would be willing to go the extra mile to get him hooked up with ongoing help rather than just leave him to it.

I used to love old LP covers and agreed with alot about that segment, Iron Maiden covers used to be superb and me and me mates used to search for the artist symbol hidden somewhere on the cover, brought back memories. Also remember the cleaning vinyl thing and balancing the tone-arm on a record player to get the best out of them. Used to like the peak meters and glowing valves on my Dad's setup. Couldn't believe a copy of Led Zep's album would go for thousands on ebay nowadays though.

I'm with you on the Iron Maiden album covers. Always great artwork and me and my mates always looked to find the little symbol cos it was always on every cover.
Piece Of Mind was one of my favourite covers.

New Californication available. It really irks me that they are only 29 minutes long though. :X

Had a Screen Wipe marathon yesterday. So pessimistic and narcissistic but mostly hilariously true. His voice had started to piss me off by the end though!

So what's the general consensus on The Walking Dead then? I loved the first series but after that I feel it lost it's way and to me seems to be slipping into completely ridiculous territory with every passing episode. Egg's attempt at an American is funny, love it when his accent slips. I'm guessing I'm in the minority about this though judging by how popular it is.

I'm really looking forward to watching 'Black Mirror' tonight, looks intriguing from the trailer I have seen.

^^ Not started on the third series of Walking Dead yet (first half of it is on me lappy but never got around to watching so no spoilers please, folks). Loved the first two series and am fairly sure that'll continue with the third. May have to get some mexxy in before I acquire it again. Has become somewhat of a tradition. They go amazingly well together.

This morning I did dun watch Storyville: Expedition to the End of the World. Bloody good it was too. Rather meditative documentary about a group of scientists and artists who are amongst the first to explore a bit of Greenland now it's started melting really rather a lot. Is not so much about what they discover whilst there (there's almost none of that in fact) but more about somewhat philosophical musings about life and stuff. Not half as dull as that makes it sound either. Well worth a watch - beautifully shot and quite thought-provoking. The flying speedinghygliderthingy they cut about on now and then looks like obscene amounts of fun too =D

Oh, and the sound of a massive iceberg splitting off and crashing into the ocean is infukkincredible! 8o8o8o Someone needs to sample that noise and use it as a dubstep bassline or summat. Yowzers that's some serious bassrumblysounds those things have 8(

A lil light musical entertainment...

The Sound & The Fury - 1. Wrecking Ball

Excellent doc about modernist music. First episode covers the period from the late 19th century through til WWII. Have long had a vague interest in modern "classical" music but is a world that can seem kinda impenetrable to the non-specialist. This doc seems to be just the ticket. Found plenty stuff that made me prick up my ears with interest and it puts it all into context nicely. Great beginner's guide and makes a fine companion to that Howard Goodall series.

The Sound & The Fury In Concert - Shoenberg, Webern & Ives

Not watched yet but is the obvious companion to the previous. All three of these composers stood out as being ones I'd like to investigate further in the doc so will be watching soonest.

Music Masters - Stockhausen

Mixed feelings about Stockhausen. <3 some of his stuff. Others are a tad too... experimental even for my tastes. Fascinating stuff... but some of it really is just plain wanky.

Music Masters - John Adams

Name didn't ring a bell but am glad I watched this cos he's great. More "traditional" than some of the other stuff in this post - within the same orbit but more instantly recognisable as music than some of the others. Really liked his stuff actually. Gonna have to investigate...

There is a good action film from what I remember about it on Ch.5 tonight at 9pm called 'The Losers'.
