UK - Hugo Wenn and Daniel Lloyd toxicology results reveal MXE in bloodstream

I also pondered what other factors there were in this instance.
The wrongful attention is a true pity. As well as the loss of life due to lack of responsibility.

i don't understand how two people can drown from drinking and this. i do both, sometimes at the same time, sometimes at the same time riding a bike in london, and never have come close to dying. wtf.

yes, but i cant really see how falling into a pond would not wake you up if very drunk or m holing. you can move in an m hole.

There could always be more to the story, I suppose.
Perhaps other substances that didn't show up in an autopsy report? Maybe foul play?
Maybe even media tom foolery, one never knows.
Unnecessary attention it is though, most certainly. A pity.

^really? only fucking retards would think this isn't being sold with the express intention of recreation, this ain't america, disclaimer don't mean shit.

GOD DAMMIt.
poor kid.

but fuck man why did it have to be methoxetamine?!? why couldn't it have been something else..

Let's be frank, a lot of the stuff we take for 'recreation' is not easy fun. It has to be approached with caution or very negative consequences occur.

Most young people only have a reference frame based on drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes.

They are unprepared for the power of many substances.

MXE in my opinion could provoke suicidal thoughts.

Now, for experienced explorers, it is hardly an issue.

The huge spectrum of thoughts are simply part of a drug effect and are enjoyed or endured.

But the unprepared can be overwhelmed, succumb to the delirium and do great harm.

However, legal or not, the problem remains and I think the best solution involves education and regulation which ensures quality products, labelling and information.

The bottom line is masses of people take drugs and that has to be accepted as a fact, so how do we mitigate the harm?

The perspective of enforcing abstinence is a proven failure.
Equally, denial of the negative consequences of substance use is harmful to society.

Its always the idiots that obviously have never done anything but smoked a joint last weekend then were like 'ooh lets go get some legal highs', they ruin it for experienced users who want recreation. Why would you even take something without looking it up first? Especially if you have never heard of it, how stupid can you be? Durrr im just going to snort this massive line of white powder containing this compound thats unknown to me. Even before I tried freebase, mdma and coke I looked that shit up to find out all the info I could, I dont care if that is stupid. Even though they are well known drugs and the effects profile is widely known I just thought, better fucking prepare and better safe then sorry. I keep getting pissed off when I see MXE in the news as so far, it is relativley harmless. There havent even been anything like the bladder problems with ketamine. I mean its like the safest thing going, is everyone getting the feeling that RC's seem to just be getting more and more toxic on your body, to a point of it effecting the high?

All these idiot drug activists and peoples parents who will think they are doing a fantastic job know fuck all. THey could learn everything I am talking about through a quick google search and half a brain, why are people so dumb on this subject??
Well at least within 3 months, there will be another drug coming to replace MXE. It might not be a discoiative but people will make up something that is as potent as that shit. Chances are the compound name will be a fucking paragraph long and there will be actual toxicity deaths not idiots taking it and walking into a fucking pond.

I respect the boy and this family and do feel bad but seriously, if you are a drug user and I only suggest you try RC's if you are a 'user'. If you are a drug 'tryer', do some research or get something more vanilla. It is a shame that he died and I cant imagine the grief his friends and family had to go through. Its just its his own fault for probably buying like a half gram or something and putting a 1/4 of it in a line ontop of being already drunk. I hate peoples 'view' on legal highs seriously, I was with my mate he buys a gram of this stuff called Lotus (Aparently it had aMT, a mephedrone alternative and MXE in it + rumoured to have contained a class B substance). He literally poured about half of it out and made like two huge lines then railed one. Just this shit can be extra potent, no one see's that. They just think oh haha a legal high, it probably wont work, il just take it all. Thats how these stupid deaths keep happening which are getting substances banned, not actual problems for safe users.

Two more parents with the fire of hell in their bellys. Why don't they ban fucking ponds, seeing as that was what actually killed them.

What if I take some mxe, then go lay on a train track. BAN THE FILTHY MXE.
It's sad they died, but, I have no sympathy for borderline retards.

And do you think the parents would be all up in arms if their kids were shitface drunk when they drowned?

Let's rephrase this a bit...

“Alcohol may not have killed Hugo and Daniel directly but it surely contributed to their deaths,” said the young musician’s mother Fiona, 50. “Both Hugo’s father and I feel very strongly that all alcoholic beverages should be classified as a controlled substance. It seems abhorrent to us that it is clearly sold for recreational use.” Dad Rob, 47, said he believed his son and friend drank the booze for “a bit of an adventure” by the pond at Canterbury, Kent, in January."

What they would actually say:
“Ponds may not have killed Hugo and Daniel directly but they surely contributed to their deaths,” said the young musician’s mother Fiona, 50. “Both Hugo’s father and I feel very strongly that ponds should be classified as a controlled locations. It seems abhorrent to us that they are clearly available for recreational use.” Dad Rob, 47, said he believed his son and friend went swimming for “a bit of an adventure” in the pond at Canterbury, Kent, in January."

I have just stumbled upon this thread with a search for Canterbury. I have lived there most of my life and knew Dan (taigh) and Hugo. I spoke to them both literally hours before they went to the pond area.

Taigh was a popular busker and they had gone to a campfire to play the guitar with some others and have some post pub drinks and a few lines (of what they thought was k) and have a jam.

These were two good people who didnt deserve to die, they didnt go swimming or whatever as joked about above. Hugo fell in while in a stupor and Dan jumped into save him-presumably going into shock in the process. Source: The male in the police report also on the scene.

MXE is messed up, the dose threshhold for different effects is different for all individuals. I took some of the same batchand woke up in intensive care. i was found in busy road miles from where i took it- robbed and with no memory of anything except a few hours prior and then waking up in hospital the next day.

Please think twice before taking mxe. it maybe legal but there is a reason why people are actually dying from it. dead

I don't understand how a few deaths can so easily get a substance classified. OTC's kill thousands every year.

Its easy to demonize so called "recreational" and "legal" highs, as opposed to prescription drugs, which come from a doctor and a pharmaceutical company, therefore are "safe".

It's actually not legal. It's dangerous to take in random eyeballed doses because of its potency. At low, accurately measured, known doses you are unlikely to black out and wake up in hospital. Unfortunately banning it has made "accurately measured, known doses" a virtual impossibility.
