What music sucked you into the world of EDM

Listening to 80s new-wave on the way to school growing up. I always loved those 80s 707/909 snares and funky synths.

For reference listen to

New Edition - Candy Girl

I did first get a glimpse of electronic music at raves but the genre that really caught my attention was House. Now I nearly love all styles of EDM but House was and still is #1 for me. %)...(and by House, I don't mean electro house ;) )

For me it was originally dnb, like Soul Slinger and Wally, basically stuff released by Liquid Sky Records around 1994-95. Then I started getting into the rave scene in Brooklyn and was listening to more techno and house. Frankie Bones and Sonic Groove Records were pretty influential for me.

Dude!!! Yes, Soul Slinger!! And I was happy to find out that he's brazilian because i'm Brazilian too, so i kept listening to his stuff and a lot of stuff from liquid sky around 95-97. I was also hooked on frankie bones and the sonic groove team. (adam x, heather heart). Those were the best times in nyc for the rave scene. When liquid sky, sonic groove and satellite were all up.

for me, it would have to be this track. My brother was going to the limelight (A big club here in NYC in the 90s) and there was this song on the cd that just drove me nuts. And then i bought a cd from liquid sky, "This is jungle sky vol 2" and i was hooked onto drum n' bass/jungle and techno.

Robert Miles - Children was one of my favourites when I was younger.

Then I dabbled with garage for a bit (first contact with decks), then dnb, then psytrance & electrohouse which I'm kind of obsessed with atm.

Yeah, I go through phases too. last year i was going through a psytrance phase. Now i'm back to techno, minimal and deep house.

daft punk in middle school

followed by infected mushroom when i was 14/15

IM's track "Dancing With Kadafi" off of BP Empire is what really blew the doors open for me. That and Aphex Twin's Windowlicker EP.

God, I played guitar and I fucking hated, I mean hated any synthetic sound, until one day, by mistake, in a virgin mega store, in the metal section I found one lonely lurking haunting image of 5 children with adult faces, black and white. I go up to the cd players where you can listen to music and I swear to god by intuition I hit the motherload. The daddy mix.

I was really into tripping acid before I ever even was properly introduced to EDM. I was 14 when I dropped my first hit. At 15 this show on MTV came out called "AMP."
And that was it, that was the beginning for me. I would come home at like 2 am, still tripping balls. And this show would be on. This was circa 1996.
Here's some footage of the oldschool MTV's "AMP" for you guys. Wondering if some of you peeps remeber this...
