Why are some people "bad at drugs"?

Pee Ess: On the topic of parents and kids and drugs and stuffs...

Occasional Mrs Shambles brought her kids up in some kinda commune. Drugs were de riguere. First time I met her kiddiez (after her hubby left) the eldest was ~10/11/12(ish), Prepubescent anyway. He and his ballsackbare mates sat at the table with us "grownups" and smoked us spliff for spliff. And kept up with the conversation too. Is that the way to bring up kidz? Fuck knows. I couldn't and wouldn't begin to pontificate on such matters. But if I ever do manage to spurt one out in a bountiful direction then no kid of mine is ever gonna be lied to. No kid of mine is gonna try owt without me knowing (cos I'll be giving it to 'em). And no kid of mine is gonna be as fuk'd as I... Admittedly some of the preceding may be a tad idealogical > practical :o
 
I'm just waiting till it comes up..it's going to be pretty obvious to him I'm a pot smoker, I make no secret of it, and I won't lie to him about other stuff...

I think 20 might be a bit hopeful Busty, but I don't want the nipper trying them tooo young. How young is too young will reveal itself in time I suppose.

Ha, I thought 'bad at drugs' was going to mean girls who can't smoke bongs properly or people who get easily wasted and end up puking in someone's bed or something.
 
For myself even as fucked up as I have got I would never say I had a bad time with drugs.
I only ever saw people that were bad with drugs in a mess with their life when those people were kind of dumb, I have known some real rag tag Junkies that were uch a mess but they were every time stupid & to use a term I don't like a chav type person.

I think on EADD we are all professional dopefiends & I know I have worked hard for many years to be as good as I am at it.
 
It depends a lot on what drug it is. I was able tto use soley recreationally with no harm tobmyself orbmy life until introduced to coke amd heroin

Thats when things went very far downhill VERY fast
as now im homeless as of two days ago, spending my last pennies on heroin. Gucking pathetic...

And how are you defining "a mess"? Whilst it's true that some of the messiest lifestyles you'll ever see may involve folk whose light never did shine that bright, there's plenty other folk who get themselves into just as bad a situation who are far from being dumb, ragtag junky chavs.

As an aside, am not a huge fan of the word "chav" as insult meself as I got it a lot due to being engaged to a gypsy gal for several years but know the kinda people you mean. I wouldn't be seen dead in Burberry (fake or otherwise) nor trackies, incidentally, but I did live on a traveller site for quite some time so am pikey chav scum by definition to many.

I mean by a "mess" people that never got their life together, I had a rough time as some know yet I still pulled myself together yet I have seen others that never had the desire to even try to make things better.
1 junkie I knew could read the Koran (sp?) could speak 2 other languages, was wide read in many different subjects blah blah blah yet just fucked up his whole life with gear & last time I saw him was on the verge of having his leg cut off through a bad infection, used rain water a few times to have a crank with etc etc.

I don't see you as a chav Shambles, far from it from what I can see of your posts you should Mod this place due to your life as I feel your more balanced that most on here.

Only point I was making is that I very much object to categorising everyone who fucks up in a big way on drugs as being "dumb" cos they clearly ain't. Some are, for sure... but not all. I just find using terminology like that is kinda dismissive and - frankly - insulting to many peeps I've known over the years who never were able to make the necessary changes. Am not a fan of Biblical stuff but the "judge not lest you be judged" stuff does sit well with me. (And fortunately was a later addition to the Bible and nowhere to be found in early versions so unquestionably down to purely human wisdom rather than mythical beings ;)).

The chav bit was purely a personal aside. It got old very bloody quick when I was living on site I can assure you :|
 
maybe a tad harsh reading back tbh but I see some people just carry on getting deeper & deeper into the bad ways of drugs, they are "bad at drugs" in my view.

I have been lucky I guess, could do Ketamine at work on the shop floor at Argos, do smack while working in a hospital, eat mushrooms while being a security guard looking after a ex social services building etc & stil hold my life together (tripping in that empty building is still 1 of my top trips ever, Leftfield "chant of a poorman" on the CD Player doing a weird Native American dance half naked at 4am =D )

I say dumb because said people never feel a need to sort them self out, just seem happy to die in a right shit hole in some filthy council flat (Yes even more dirty than my own council flat too, go ask BHM folks)
 
I do know where you're coming from, Farmaz. Believe me I knew plenty peeps who would fit that description - am sure we all do. The only part I'm really disagreeing on is equating being "bad" at drugs with lack of intelligence. I honestly don't think it has much to do with how intelligent a person is as to how deeply they manage to fuck their life up. I just think it tends to be more complex in reality. I've been kinda forced to spend a lotta time around the kinda "chav" fuck-ups you speak of over the years and have often found that when you really get to know them there's a lot more going on there that they just have difficulty expressing. Others are just plain dozy nobbers though without a doubt :D
