Such a brilliant film, watched in a cinema in Paris last summer. Absolutely great story. Ken Loach is boss.

I may have mentioned it already but 'Ill Manors' is well worth watching. It really shows the seedy side of London and just doesn't let up at all with all the misery etc.
This film is no fairy tale but if you like these types of film then I don't think you will be disappointed.

Fargo is an ace flick Dan ... William H Macy is one of my favourite actors .. he's a fucking genious and seriously under-used

and the Coens are in my top 10 directors ... most of their movies pre (and including) Oh Brother are pretty much perfect.

Broken Flowers - if you like Bill Murray and Jim Jarmusch, this could be the one for you.

I saw the Devil - a pretty grim and disturbing Korean thriller. Excellent nonetheless.

Jim Jarmusch is a legend, as is Bill Murray. Down By Law, Mystery Train, Night on Earth, Dead Man, Ghost Dog all great flicks

I loved Broken Flowers

Ah yes - totally agree. Not Jarmusch, but have you seen Slacker? I really enjoyed that, quite a lot like Night on Earth. Plot-wise, goes fucking nowhere, but I'm a sucker for dialogue-driven films without any particular inciting incident. Gotta be one of the few people who loved Coffee & Cigarettes.

Anyway, this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jZ_FuyC_dY&list=PL6FC8B8C3086EFAB4&index=161&feature=plpp_video from Broken flowers. I thought it fit the mood of the film so well. Something about Murray's deadpan expression, when listening to this as he drives along, makes me laugh. I have played it on a few occasions while in a car and got some mixed reactions.

I watched Angel Heart on Film 4 last night, was really good had me totally gripped, but went a bit downhill near the end and then the ending it's self was poor. Shame because it had the potential to be a really quality film. Still worth a watch.

Just watched Hard Eight on Film 4. Good film.

Before his commercial breakthrough with Boogie Nights (1997), writer/director Paul Thomas Anderson made this low-key drama. John (John C. Reilly), a half-bright loser stranded in Reno, is down to his last few bucks when Sydney (Phillip Baker Hall), taking pity on him, buys him breakfast and offers him a few tips on making money in the casinos. Two years later, John has become Sydney's partner, but his lack of common sense goes from problematic to dangerous when he falls in love with Clementine (Gwyneth Paltrow), a cocktail waitress who isn't above turning a few tricks when she needs to make money -- and isn't any brighter than John. Hall and Reilly, both first-rate character actors, are cast in rare leading roles, and Paltrow is cast strongly against type as a part-time prostitute with a serious lack of street smarts. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
