Gray hair

I think younger people actually look great with grey in their hair. I'm almost 60 and don't have any yet but when I get them I guess I will decide what to do about it.:\

Im 18 and I've been getting grey hair since like 2 years... I fucking hate it, its pretty visible if you look at me from above, also cause my hair is really dark brown.

started gettin visible, my salt n pepa that is, prob at age 29. That was a stressfull period and now is stressfull but I seem to notice getting less grey. Wonder why anybody suddenly made a U turn in hair color?

The greyish effect is caused by hydrogen peroxide at the roots of hair follicles I somewhere picked up. Somehow the enzym needed to deactivate the hydrogen peroxide overtime declines the residuel peroxide bleaches the hair coloring, making they hair look white. BTW kombucha is rumoured to counteract whitening of the scalp and that'sjust what I drank till half year ago, lots of it.

Maybe someone can shed some light on the possible mechanism causing the loss of color.

Early gray hair can very rarely be caused by a biotin deficeincy by what I've read. Looking for a reference for the biotin connection I found this page http://www.livestrong.com/article/151221-vitamin-deficiencies-that-cause-gray-hair/ That page should have mentioned though that its pretty uncommon for nutrition or supplements to undo or prevent gray hair.

Biotin deficiency is pretty rare because most of the time the bacteria in our gut produces as much as we need. Some individuals probably need a lot more than others, as is the case for many nutrients. Eating raw eggs often, which is hazardous for all kinds of reasons, can produce biotin deficiency because it binds up biotin making it unusable.

i started getting white hair when i was 15. it was noticeable enough that when i was like 19 people would say i looked 30. (this was before i started smoking, was totally from the white hairs). my mother's hair was almost completely white by the time she was my age (26). as far as both of us can tell its not related to any other health problems.

^^ yeah now that i'm in my mid-20s my perceived age seems to have more to do with how well shaven my face is at the time.

i'm proud of my salt and pepper. glad you are too.

Almost 40 and never a grey hair. Although, if I did I would not rock it. Luckily I am married to a fab colourist who has a good mane of hair.
Grey is better than balding.

OP, I agree that it's a nice trait. I wouldn't mind having it too ; )

There are different reasons for gray hair and not all are genetic. Well, actually, that's not completely true. Genes have switches that are activated or de-activated based on different factors, and hair pigment works on switches. The switches for hair pigment relate to nutrition, stress levels, and hormone levels. And yes, in a lot of people it's just a time-activated thing that comes with aging and there's nothing you can do about it.

Colour can disappear if nutrition has suffered, if a person has experienced long-term stress or trauma (adrenals), if they ejaculate way too often (in men, this is called essence deficiency), etc. About essence... the modern understanding is that the more often you ejaculate, the more androgens are released in your body to compensate; and just as some bald men had baldness switches in their genes that were sensitive to an influx of aldosterone, the same is true with gray hair in those susceptible.

The Chinese herb he shou wu (polygonum multiflorum) can reverse gray in some people, especially those with deficient type constitutions. I've used this on patients for other things and a side effect has been their hair colour returning, so I know it works for that. Just make sure you're using the prepared version and not the raw version. The raw one is to increase bowel movement, but the prepared one is for nourishing blood and essence.

Absolutely everything you posted is incorrect by "modern scientific standards". It's never been proved ejaculating has anything to do with baldness or gray hair. You sound like a lunatic, might want to switch "modern understanding" to "my own, personal, subjective, completely unbased other than in personal experience, understanding"

Ughhh I'm a woman and my gray hair bugs me. I just colored less than a month ago and the whiteness is coming back again.
Call it vanity, but I'm self conscious about it. Wrinkles and flab can't be covered up. The hair is one thing I can fix.

I absolutely agree that he has every right to be heard. I just thought the way he worded it sounded like he was talking about western scientific standards which is what most people here would trust in the field.
