EADD 2012 Official UK Mushroom Thread

Still finding libs on my front lawn, coming up in loads of different spots. I've had around 50 so far. I live close by to loads of fields so it shouldn't be surprising really, but I've never thought to check. There's some growing on my neighbours as well, but the pricks have their curtains open all the time

And yeah we had frost this morning, but I came home to some libs that had sprouted since then. They can't mind it that much
 
I ate a whole bunch of shrooms that wernt libs once and my god i was sick .... Thought i had fungal meningitus .... and dude it looks like you went mushroom picking with a hoover .. no fungi was safe from you people !! My seasons basically non existant at the moment .. No car nd no time ..
 
Had another bad frost this morning, I think this ones probably killed it off for now. Bloody hope not! 9am and it's still very frosty.
 
The frost doesn't necessarily kill the mushrooms - I have found the thaw is what kills them - turns them to mush. Pick em before the thaw and dry them out on foil, pressed.

Also - nice one about the mycelium frost comment - I didn't know that, mycology really is intense.

Newfang - I suggest you take spore prints - purple-brown and you have liberty caps (or other psilocybe var.)

Found my first crop of the season yesterday - the past 2 nights my boys been eating a handful of shrooms and so last night I ate a few - just enough to be on their wavelength but still get up for work this morning at a decent time.

Found some MASSIVE caps - they were the first ones I saw - by accident, for the first time ever, on my local GOLF COURSE! They usually spray the fields, but evidently they not been shrewd enough.

So I found a patch of about 20, and picked most of them, and mushed the rest.

Slim pickings so far. Went for a look in the field after work with a mate today, only to find seven. Gonna have to extend the search this year I feel.

It was a good move from Monstanoodle, the consequences of mushroom poisoning range from a bit of stomach ache to permanent kidney failure, with subsequent need of a kidney transplant or dialysis for the rest of your life, to death. Main reason why I haven't had magic mushrooms since the 2005 ban :(, no one of my friends knows them mushies
 
i notice your not to far from wher ei am - i usually go 2nd or 3rd week into october to be honest. - the past 2 years we've picked plenty around the door's, im about 20 mins from durham

I was arguing today with a mate i've been picking with a few years. (Well debating really). I've noticed that women tend to pick more shrooms. I think its because we're naturally gatherers and have an instinct for it.

He disagreed.. the jist of his argument was that I was talking bollocks but I'm not convinced. I've seen him some years with a plastic sandwich box 'full' while a female friend and I had bags of them.

Still no shrooms today I'm sorry to say :(

Your mate had a sandwich box full, like he does every day. You have a bag of them, once or twice a season. It's all or nothing with you Yella, while your mate is a methodical plodder :)
 
I went to my most regular liberty cap spot 2 days ago, expecting to see 100s, and found it's been absolutely stripped, with just a few pins showing. Loads of non actives turned over and thrown around. Hope it was just a one off, I've picked it for years, never over picked it, left the pins, you know treated it good. It's only a small meadow, around an acre, so I'm guessing it could be spoilt quickly.
 
I've just fallen in love with this thread and all of you mushroom picking connoisseurs! Any chance of getting lucky in london this time of year ? (maybe epping forest?)
 
rizmatter, I've read reports of them showing all over the country including the south east. There's a huge thread on shroomery that might give you specific information on where you're looking for. I lived in the south east near Reading years ago and found them easily enough in early october, I cant imagine Epping way would be much different.

lucky enough to have a mate who does drive and is a drughead like myself. all my life i've been morally (and financially) against driving on my own (protecting the environment, supporting public transport, all that bollocks) and now...y'know. i'm losing a fortune having to pay for drugs.

(truth be told i was just too lazy to take the theory test)

No seriously, regardless of how methodical* he is or other chaps i've seen out, women always come back with a bigger haul. I honestly think its because women were the gatherers in primeval societies and we get to fan that quality back into flame come shroomin season.

* His method used to be to walk in lines up and down the field so no bits are missed. Now he adopts the walk 4 annoying steps behind me tactic.

Re: all or nothing.. You just dont know how right you are there. ( just not in relation to shrooming :p)

Are there any mushrooms that are poisonous that grow in ireland that look even remotely like a liberty cap?

And I'm not sure if this qualifys as sourcing or solicitation or whatnot but does anybody live in belfast and know any spots? I promise I won't rape them, just want enough for 2 trips lol
