Aus - Silk Road - BROTHERS IN COURT OVER ONLINE DRUGS

Police have seized cannabis, ecstasy and speed bought from an underground website described as an "eBay for drugs" after two teenage brothers were allegedly caught importing the drugs to Esperance from Melbourne and Canada.

The brothers, aged 15 and 17, were last week charged with possessing cannabis with intent to sell and supply.

They faced further drug charges, including possession of LSD, when they appeared in Esperance Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Police allege the pair bought the drugs through a website known as The Silk Road, which has been operating for about 18 months.

Officers want the website identified because they want parents to be aware of their children's internet habits.

The Silk Road employs sophisticated security measures and a digital currency that eliminates the involvement of banks.

Users must first download a free program that masks the true identities of both the buyer and seller by "bouncing" communications among a network of relays operated by volunteers across the world.

Once that software is downloaded, users can access the underground marketplace where they can search for their drugs of choice.

Searches produce prices per weight and also include reviews of the sellers - including people whose product and service has been rated highly or poorly by users. The website includes information on how to package, handle and distribute the drugs.

Users can also access information on how to avoid scrutiny by police and get feedback on the quality of the drugs on offer.

Users must use a digital currency that is not regulated and difficult for law enforcement agencies to trace.

The boys' parents approached Esperance police because they were concerned at packages they were receiving through the mail.

Staff at the local Australia Post sorting depot had also become concerned. Detectives launched an investigation dubbed Operation Cinder and identified the source of the drugs as The Silk Road.

Timmy and Jimmy are drug dealers? Better send them to jail, then they'll never sell drugs again!

I wonder how utterly ridiculous the parents must be feelin' about their bright idea.

"Ossifer, can I come pick up my boys now? I think they've learned their lesson.... I'm sorry, I thought I heard you say something about life. I can't hear too well anymore."

Later that evening - "Honey, why did you just swallow ten days worth your Xanax? I mean, what are you gonna do now the following nine since you won't have none? And why aren't you breathing?"

Wow. That operation sounds expensive. Where did the kids get this kind of money?

They probably dug into their college or car funds.

LOL @ these SR articles. Free publicity AND assurance that - due to the awesome description of how it all works - there's only a very slim chance you'll be busted. Dumbass parents and all.

The media has done well to spread the word of the online ebay for drugs to one and all.

I had to hide a few posts that discussed how to not get caught when ordering from SR. I don't think we should be talking about that on BL.

Agreed. I've always felt uncomfortable discussing "eBay for drugs" on a harm reduction website. Even if it is related to an article or other media.

so we can reduce more harm by having people go out onto the streets for there illegal drugs? drugs on SR are typically of better quality when buying from reputable sellers? which also reduces harm for users of drugs like heroin cocaine n meth mdma etc

or do you not want SR talked about cuz you want it to not recieve too much attention, cuz its already got everyones attention users n authorities alike.

To clarify, I used the phrase "I don't think we should" a little loosely. What I think is irrelevant here because talking about sources is a literal violation of BLUA #1:

Use of Bluelight for any purpose that is unlawful, or in any manner which could impair the operation of this site or any other party's use or enjoyment of this site, is strictly prohibited. Specifically, you may not:

1. use Bluelight in any way, shape or form for unlawful purposes, including, without limitation: attempting to solicit or obtain contraband substances or substances of a quasi-legal status; or information on how to do so; posting or exchanging any information on ongoing or future criminal activity, or any information which can be construed as discussing such activity; actively encouraging others to engage in criminal activities. Further, the use of ineffective self-incrimination avoidance terms is forbidden. Terms include but are not limited to: SWIM; my dog; my cat; a mouse; my pet hamster.

But I hear what you are saying. This type of information is widely available to those who don't need it, but hidden from those who do. This is an irony that we must harmonize with if we want to remain in existence (I think).

This sort of thing - I gather - is a tough situation for an online HR site. Even though this is DitM and we are discussing/debating opinions, views, etc. in relation to a 3rd party article; I always feel we are treading very close to crossing the line per say. Sorry if I'm ruining someone's buzz because of my perspective on the matter - not my intention. I'm concerned BL will be shut down if we start openly chatting about what 23536 edited/deleted.

the kids' resale op or LE's op? didn't see any quantitative #'s on either..

And i agree, this topic does tap dance ALL OVER the line. Not that it's any reason to shy away from it, but 23433434324 is gonna have to stay on his toes! As long as it's kept to more abstract stuff, i don't see it being an issue (not my call tho, lol).

I actually *just* checked out silk road for the first time a couple weeks ago - incredibly fascinating to see that kind of operation (had tried checking it many times in the past, never realized you can only go to the site using the TOR browser - makes sense though, guess it's part of the anonymity shroud)

yeah just close it I rekon, it's not going to go anywhere further, except cause complications.

c'mon just keep an eye on it and it'll be fine. this isn't the kind of thing BL oughtta just avoid entirely.
(the last source that needed to be erased was from some kid who had 4 posts and was trolling)

the blua, if taken in its strictest sense, would not allow a huuuge portion of what this site is about. a major part of HR is, sadly, proper acquisition - but materially aiding someone's acquisition is illegal. we have a tight line to walk here, but we've always managed fine. so long as don't point people towards specific drug marketplaces, endorse (or condemn) specific sites/sellers, we are fine and are not violating blua any more than the multitude threads on properly preparing drugs for administration, properly isolating substances, rating pills, etc etc. This thread def tests 243334's vigilance and may be a PITA, but it is not the subject matter that bl ought to shy away from.
