The Official WORDS e-Free Poetry Competition

hi ForEverAfter. I have posted 2 poems on this tread , but they have disapeered. And i have received 2 privat messages from you with this two poems of mine????
What's the point?

They have been entered into the competition. Submissions can't be posted on the thread, as the voting is anonymous. I meant to explain that via the PMs. It must have slipped my mind. If you look at the "Reason for deletion" at the bottom of your posts, you'll see the words "entered into competition." Apologies for any confusion. I liked your poems and I thought they deserved to be in the comp rather than just in this thread. So I deleted them as quickly as possible, retained a copy of each, and sent you a copy (in case you didn't have one saved on your comp).

If you'd like to provide titles for the poems, please do so via PM.

Good luck.

:)

Procrastinators beware: time is running out; less than a week left for submissions!

PM your submissions to me and/or New. (Do NOT post them in this thread.)

:)

Why can't we use the letter e?

I want to submit mine but the letter e may be there. I'll have to check.

Yeah, I found not being able to use the letter E a little restrictive - it was peculiar. :) Though, it was a good challenge. I sent my submission to 4EA yesterday, unfortunately it will be my only submission as I've left it too late.. Look forward to reading your entries in the competition, Thou. I like the way you write, bro.

Ash. <3

It was too difficult for me, didn't have inspiration too. Bah. Good luck to all the contributors! (I already have a favorite, btw ;))

Thou art thou!

How do you already have a favorite? Did someone leak the submissions? I'm confused...

Why can't we use the letter e?

Why make a film in black and white when you can make it in colour?

Poetry, in part, relies on the juxtaposition of words. The surrealists used to have a game where they each wrote down a word, blindly associating it with the last. It came to be known as "exquisite corpse", since this was the unusual result of a paricular round. If not for the game, perhaps these words would never have been grouped together.

Stephen Fry once said, "I can say the following sentence and be utterly sure that nobody has ever said it before in the history of human communication: 'Hold the newsreader's nose squarely, waiter, or friendly milk will countermand my trousers.'"

Language, in all it's complexity, allows us to - century after century - create these unique and unlikely associations of vowel and consonant.

That is, more or less, the point of the e-Free poetry competition: it forces contributors to write outside their normal mode of thinking; to create bizarre and, sometimes illogical, linguistic codes.

Why?

Simply because we can.

A Bit of Fry & Laurie - "Tricky Linguistics"

I'm currently a little busy with univesity and opiate withdrawals. Will post up the submissions, so you can vote - anonymously - and decide who is Bluelight's first "Poet Laureate".

^ One of the applicants posted his poem here instead of sending it to you. You deleted it but I had the time to read it ;)

So his poem is your favorite poem... of his poem? Like, you don't dislike his poem at all in comparison to, say, his poem? Or maybe you prefer his poem, to his poem? Might I ask, was it a difficult decision?

A difficult question? No more difficult than that which wheels do not spin.

^^^^ ahahah I love it. After much deliberation, I've come to a decision. It was tedious, I had to think long and hard; hours spent laboriously contemplating which poem was best. But of the one poem I've read...I must admit, that poem...was the best poem!

edit: and that was supposed to be right after 4EA's post, somehow my computer decided the last 5 hours didn't exist and didn't show the other posts until after I had typed this!
