I've been trying to get buprenorphine (tablets) prescribed for a while now with no success. My PM doc will do it but it would involve me trading oxycodone for it, something I'm not ready to do.

i always think i have it bad but when i hear some of your stories i realize i should be greatful. my sympathies to you all

i've been dealing with coccyx pain due to a vestigial tail and have been using only 20 mg oxy/day split in 4 doses. it doesn't seem to be helping as much as it used to so i'm gonna see if i can get it upped. i was really excited because i was gonna have surgery to remove the bone early july, but then i got radial nerve palsy. i cannot use my right had beyond typing with the index finger (it was fully paralyzed for about 2 weeks, so i'm thankful i'm getting some motion). me and the ortho physician (who was gonna do the surgery and is my physician for the palsy) decided to hold off on the surgery b/c i'd be completely dependent on everyone around me. not being able to sit, pain from surgery, and a paralyzed dominant hand did not sound too fun at all.
and to make things worse i fell off a longboard 4 days ago and landed right on my coccyx. things have been worse than ever now :/. i'm gonna see my PM doc on tuesday...i'm hoping he'll offer me relief in one form or another.

two questions...
-'cause i'm on a relatively low dose of oxy, would it be wise just to up the dosage or frequency? i ask because i've read that rotating between different opiates can be very effective in both analgesia and keeping tolerance lower. thoughts?

-any of you have luck with some meds for neuropathic pain? this palsy burns and feels like knives stabbing. gabapentin doesn't do anything for me, and lyrica is something that failed me in the past.

As far as the pain meds go, personally, I would go on extended release meds with a couple oxys for breakthrough pain bc you said you are splitting your oxy and spreading it throughout the day anyway. Since you are becoming tolerant, if I were you, I would switch to the lowest ER which I think are 10 or 15mg? ER twice daily with a couple 5mg percs for BT. Stay as low as you can tolerate.

Nerve meds I can't help with bc I haven't found any that help, sorry :(

My condition affects my entire sympathetic nervous system and im sorry to say but I havent found anything that works for nerve pain. have you tried amitriptyline? Tricyclic anti depressants have been used for nerve pain for a long time

I brought the 120mg of oxy down to 40mg successfully (yay!) but I'm in too much pain to go down more. Called the doc and he called in some tramadol to get me by til next week. Question: Can I take the tramadol with my oxy or does the tram block it? Also, anyone know why tram knocks out WD for some people but not for others? Thought I heard something about genetics? I dunno...

Tramadol should not block it it's an opioid mild SSNRI. I think it would be safe. I took it one time while I still had codeine in my system and I did not have a bad reaction. I did wake up with a horrid headache that did not go away with out another dose of codeine.

Congratulations on decreasing your dosage!!!

Have any of you guys heard of buprenorphine transdermal patches ? Are they efficient, more so than say oc 20mgs ?

I'm not sure how they compare to that dosage but I would think a little Internet searching could answer that. There are lots of us in here with med knowledge tho so keep checking back. I'll try to find out.

Update: Best I could find. 20 micrograms/hr bupren = 25-40 Mg/daily oxycodone

BuTrans 10mcg (converted from morphine) are supposed to be the starting dose for those taking 20-~50mg of oxy/day...

I just got switched from 400mg tramadol to 10mcg/hr butrans...I fucking hate it...I can't take a little more or a little less if I need to, my pain isn't being taken care of...I JUST got some pain relief because I threw on my second patch a day early about 4 hours ago, but my back is still killing me, my neck is still as shit, my legs are in an asston of pain, and one of my nuts is still throbbing from my chronic, recurrent epididymitis...I don't think they start you on 20mcg/hr patches unless you're taking 80+mg of morphine daily or equivalent (I was taking an equivalent of 65mg (figured by putting 400mg into a calculator for codeine as they're pretty much equianalgesic for the most part)...go figure), and they indicate 5mcg's for less than 30mg, and 10mcg's for 30-80mg...how the fuck is one strength to be tried for that much of a difference in equiv. doses?

They dropped my flexerils from 90 to 30/month because they tried me on seroquel for the second time (and once again, it failed)...so I'm out of those and my lyrica because of reduced analgesia...all I have to take for breakthrough pain is tylenol and ibuprofen...I'm not supposed to take aspirin appearently, but I think I'm about to start doing so again...sorry if it seems like I'm always bitching here...just don't have anyone to really go to for support for this shit irl...probably a mixture of me having avoidant personality disorder and that being a debby downer tends to make people not like you lmao...

Sorry for the seepage...

How's everyone else doing today? I hope not in too much pain (I quit believing a long time ago, that there's any such thing as no pain lmao)...If you are, I truly hope you get some form of relief...This shit really fucking sucks when it's non-stop 24/7 lol...

Tell me about it i have forgotten what it feels like to be pain free, not been lower than a 7 in 3 years. Im sorry to hear that your patches arent working. you need to tell your dr and get it fixed

I went by the office when she was at the other one (she has two in two different towns) and said something, but I don't think they put a message into the system because I never got a call about it...I have an appt. tomorrow after I get out of class though, so I'll find out then...ya, I tend to vary from a 6 at best to a 7/7.5...I might get the rare 5...I just wish I could experience "mild" pain levels for a little bit lmao... For that, I would be needing an upwards of 200-300mg of morphine daily, and no doctor is going to prescribe that to a non-cancer-patient male that's 20 years old lmfao...but young people don't feel pain...remember? we're invincible and are just looking to get fucked up...that's what it is...[/sarcasm]

headed out for a little bit though...

take it easy, doomed, tricomb, and all the other regulars here...I've been inactive as of late because of class (chem II in 6 weeks is insane lmao...the only time I learn this much is when I'm on a research binge lmfao...making a high B or low A though lol)...

I was on 100mcg of fentanyl and 40mg ir oxy at 25 for pain so occassionally you do get a sympathetic dr. That combo have me at a 7. I am now on 160mg of oxy which is equivalent to 320mg morphine, a long with a plethora of other meds, rarely get below an 8 though. I hope your appointment goes well.

I'm sorry to hear that Jktm. You definitely need to get that fixed or seek a new doc. I was stuck hurting in bed today so I did stupid things to stay busy. My nightstand drawers look outstanding :) I even organized my pens by color. It's kinda pathetic but it's the little productive things that add up, ya know?

Trust me, that's not pathetic...I really can't do anything, unless it's something necessary...When I'm not in class, I keep myself busy with either studying or doing some sort of research, or spacing out at the TV for hours when I can't sleep lol...I will maybe once or twice a week venture out the house to visit friends for a couple hours, but not much...that's pretty much my life lmfao...

Finally broke down and used my extra two weeks between pm doc appointments to smoke a little high potency medical cannibis and while in combo with my pain meds i saw some extra relief, I am somewhat glad that I don't have the option to as it made me very loopy and high as fuck!!! Passed out standing in front of a bagel the other night and last night kept arguing with my sister forgetting what we were talking about every few minutes....Jesus Christ was I out of it.

So I am done as of thursday and will go back to struggling even though I am still prescribed significant opiates they seem to not be working as well as of late.
