I don't know why people insist on quoting massive chunks of text like that. It's really annoying.
You didn't answer the question as to whether or not you would like to be the executioner. Nor did you address the issue of innocent people who are put to death due to the imperfect nature of the justice system. I didn't even mention child molesters. People who share your viewpoint rely on "child molesters" as some sort of trump card when it comes to this moral debate.
You either didn't bother to read my post, or you saw what you wanted to see. I brought up a number of valid points. Frankly, I don't see the point in engaging in a discussion on the internet about the death penalty if you're just going to roll your eyes and be sarcastic. You might as well not contribute to the discussion in the first place.
As I said, a lot of people chose to simplify what is really an extremely complex issue and demonize offenders of violent crimes - so that they don't have to really think about what is at stake. You simplified it down to child molesters, purposely skipping over questions that you are incapable of answering. You put words in my mouth, also. I didn't say we should treat sex offenders with respect. There is a difference between treating someone with respect and choosing not to stoop to their level.
For your information, child molestation is not a capital crime in the United States; and child rape is only punishable by death in Louisiana.
Crimes punishable by death. So, your child molester argument has no place in the context of this discussion.
The death penalty applies almost entirely to murderers; and, murder is often a crime of passion committed by sick and confused individuals. Murder is a sick act. So, therefore, is murdering murderers. Especially if you do it brutally, as you've suggested. The only way for the death penalty to be justified is if it's done in the most human way possible. Personally, I don't believe in the death penalty. I think people should get life with no chance of parole.
As society develops, we are moving away from capital punishment. Largely due to the issues that I have raised, which you chose to ignore. It is not a co-incidence that we don't publicly execute people any more. One day, when we are more enlightened than we are now, we will stop executing people altogether.
Capital punishment for murder is barbaric, and it is a hypocrisy.
If you'd like to continue discussing this with me, please resist the temptation to make sarcastic comments and selectively ignore aspects of the debate as you please. I'm sure you're capable of debating the issue in a civilized and mature manner.
