I only read a couple of the most recent posts in this thread, so pardon me is this is out of the context of this thread.
I went and saw my psychiatrist today for my regular 3 months med check (I take Alprazolam every night for sleep and Methylphenidate, which is why I see him).
He informed me of a disturbing development regarding treatment of anxiety with benzodiazepines. Right now it is limited to people on Medicaid or Medicare or whatever it's called ...But he is concerned that in the next year or two it may affect us all.
Apparently some studies have been done and according to the people who make these decisions, there's enough proof to act on this thing.
Anyone on Medicaid (mainly older people) will from now on only be able to take benzos for 6 weeks maximum. Supposedly it's because the drugs have proven to contribute to loss of memory.
My psychiatrist didn't seem to buy it, but he thinks it will be this way for us all at some point.
I don't know if it's something local, or more widespread. He gave me some paperwork on it so I'm gonna check it out tonight.
I'm wondering if I can take a pic of the article and post it? I'm not real good with that stuff lol.
