The Joke Thread - Try and make it funny, eh?

What's wrong with just saying 'Pakistani'? Works for me.

No 'language control' necessary; I just don't see any pressing need to abbreviate it. Just like I don't feel the need to use any derogatory terminology in everyday life.

I don't feel as if I've been coerced into that by anybody - round my way it was just called decency and manners, not 'political correctness'.
 
Let's just keep racial slurs out of the joke thread, and ultimately the rest of the website. We don't need another ridiculous debate over this.

Using the example of a few other countries that share similar names and claiming that the 'P' word is nothing more than an enthnonym is cute, but it's ultimately fallacious. As for Pakistani people using it themselves, maybe that's just the ones you know, because every person from a Pakistani background I've asked about it finds the word an embarrassing anachronism at best.

At the end of the day, if you were to use that word on television there'd be uproar.

The funny thing is that they are called Turkmen's and Kyrgys ;) No one from ANY stan has ever, in history, included the stan part in their people's name - which only refers to 'place of'. If we take Afghanistan as an example, Afghan is from the sanscrit root word asvaka which means horsemen. Therefore, 'place of horsemen', or just called 'horsemen'.

Jew has also been regarded as a racial slur, but it's how you say it. They didn't just abandon the traditional name for themselves because people started saying it with vitriol, and it's the same with Pakistanis now. I know Pakistanis up in Leeds, and I know a lot in Luton and London, and if I say an Asian sounding name the first thing they will say is "is he a paki", which makes me uncomfortable but not them.

He gasps, "My friend is dead! What can I do?" The operator says "Calm down. I can help. First, let's make sure he's dead." There is a silence, then a gun shot is heard. Yeah but you've already shown that you have no idea what the fuck you're talking about with your stupid not so smart arse Turkmen comment... You haven't been coerced into it by anyone because you are the PC knob head trying to force your language on others, who might y'know actually know some Pakistanis.

Sorry, I find the term OCD offensive, please call it Orderly Fixation Enjoyment or OFE for short :) Obsessive, Compulsive, and Disorder, all bring to my mind some sort of problem and highlight that those with this afflication are different to everybody else. While we're at it are there any other newspeak words anyone else would like filtered out?

I'd call myself a reasonal person, to be fair. Also, according to that bit of the BLUA, just calling someone a cunt is against the rules. Perhaps you'd better get editing posts... ;) Anyway, I don't want a debate. I'll leave that to MSB.

Haha according to that rule the entire clique should be banned from BL. But the rules only applies to us mere mortals who are neither mods nor have our heads up mod's arses. I cba to debate on this topic, it's a waste of time. Trying to seperate PC nuts from their precious language is like trying to take a banana from a fully grown gorilla.

And isn't this the joke thread? Erm, what's happened? Why don't you all do everyone a favour and put each other on ignore? You'll never all agree and these "debates" seem to constantly end in petty shite anyway.
