Social The Delphic Oracle - Know Thyself: P&S Social Ampitheatre of Doom

some of my favorite philosophers are comedians... he's a bunch of george carlin quotes

"I'm completely in favor of the separation of Church and State. My idea is that these two institutions screw us up enough on their own, so both of them together is certain death."

"Religion convinced the world that there's an invisible man in the sky who watches everything you do. And there's 10 things he doesn't want you to do or else you'll go to a burning place with a lake of fire until the end of eternity. But he loves you! ...And he needs money! He's all powerful, but he can't handle money!"

"By and large, language is a tool for concealing the truth."

" "I am" is reportedly the shortest sentence in the English language. Could it be that "I do" is the longest sentence?"

"I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose."

"If God had intended us not to masturbate he would've made our arms shorter."

"If it's true that our species is alone in the universe, then I'd have to say the universe aimed rather low and settled for very little."

"People who say they don't care what people think are usually desperate to have people think they don't care what people think."

"Some people see things that are and ask, Why? Some people dream of things that never were and ask, Why not? Some people have to go to work and don't have time for all that." [[lol philosophy]]

"I think it's the duty of the comedian to find out where the line is drawn and cross it deliberately."

"By and large, language is a tool for concealing the truth."

When we experience a state with no thoughts
no thoughts can think of no words
the word ceases to exist
the concept ceases to exist
the person continues to exist!

When we experience a state beyond words
words cease to exist
the concept ceases to exist
the person continues to exist!

I'd rather think that I'd lost the illusion of language
than that I'd lost my soul into the infinite oneness with god! (and with no thoughts too; that takes some doing!)

What is it with these negative, nihilistic, life-nullifying, god-knowing philosophies that people find so attractive???

[I feel like I've totally killed the good vibes going on in here, sorry about that. :) But everything must stand up to questioning in philosophy, so I'll leave it there anyway =D]

I honestly don't know what to make of meditation. I've never tried it, but I do smoke lots of DMT and take other psychedelics.

People come up with some really stupid shit about aliens and infinity with them, so I don't know if it's the same kind of deal for meditation/buddhism or whatever?! Hyperbole?
I take it you meditate? What do you believe, seriously?
Surely you can't "believe" anything with no thoughts? Am I being too logical?

I know all about psychic abilities, my friend - through the language barrier! That's what DMT's all about, for me. Completely removes all illusions swiftly and cleanly. I used to be into 'consciousness expansion' and getting 'the message' and 'reverence' etc., but I only really use DMT nowadays, and it just blows through all that stuff: I think it's probably just opening the awake/dreaming parts of my mind, now; a waking visit to the dream world. That's my guess, anyway. I'm going to look into meditation. I saw a guy flying around in some animation(!), but I'm skeptical at heart, I'll admit it. After you've been dancing with plumed serpent for years, closing eyes alone doesn't seem like it'll do it!! I'll definitely give it a good try for the 3 day samahdi sessions, though!
I have faith in human nature too. haha. ;)

it really is difficult to explain how real it is when, for example, a priest swipes his hand over your head, and you pass out.
Has that happened to you?

It's a bit like public hypnosis, as it appears to me -- different words, same effect.

Whether the hypnotist makes one behave like a chicken; speak in tongues; or pass out -- I can't really give much praise to anyone other than the hypnotist.

I'm sure it was astounding. I've never had such an experience, but I did go to a public hypnotist once; and he made my friend behave like a chicken on the stage -- and this was not the kind of guy who would "play-along". I suppose that all I am saying is that - viewed from a different perspective - someones place of illumination, is another persons chicken-dance - hypnosis is certainly powerful, and not necessarily facile.

Why did Egyptians draw in 2D when every other contemporaneous culture drew in 3D?

Perhaps it is to do with their understanding that we can only see half of the whole?

I think that they understood the link between sound and vision, in the way that Newton proposed - since the way we write music is a perversion of the Pythagorean scale, this leads to inaudible sounds, and the creation of arbitrary nodes in human vision.

Based upon his Infraction history, it looks like a 'Repeated Violation' of the forum guidelines got him where he is today. On my end, at least, he went on a double- and triple-post poetic rampage one evening. By the time I got to him, however, he was already b&. Go figure.

Man, you guys are too harsh. P in P is a good dude. He probably had every good reason to do what he did.
Agree. Even though his style was somewhat atypical, his presence will be missed.

He had good intentions, he didn't intend to troll the board for the sake of annoying other people. His absurd writing-style was just the way he was. This forum is getting way too serious. Some of my PhD seminars in philosophy are even more relaxed.
