Top DEA agent won't admit heroin more harmful than marijuana

This borders on psychosis on her part...is she really so ignorant that she cannot accept that various drugs have different levels of risk associated with their usage?

This woman is a nut.
marijuana can definitely cause psychosis in people who have never tried it. ;)

If you used heroin responsibly, and with a reasonable amount of caution, I imagine you would be fine even after 50 or more years. I can think of many reports of people doing stupid things while high and dying. Is pot responsible for their deaths? More so than heroin is responsible for someone accidentally overdosing on it I would think.

I saw some TV show on NatGeo I believe where they interviewed a Dr. who was a morphine addict for I wanna say 30-40 years (heroin is diacetylmorphine and breaks down to mostly morphine in vivo) and he had no signs of physical damage from drug use. And I feel that if I had been getting "pharmaceutical grade" heroin while I was using, I probably "wouldn't've" had so many accidental overdoses. Obviously if one wants to kill themselves they'll do it anyway, or if the user is just not educated such as with other "legal drugs" like script opiods/opiates, benzos, ethyl alcohol, etc. Do what Portugal did and things will get better.

Has anyone seen a lifetime opium addict? (I know, opium is not heroin, but it is also not so incredibly different.)
I have, when I was in Thailand.
His eyes were shaking back and forth uncontrollably.
It scared me.

nystagmus is a symptom of opiate withdrawal. Maybe after many years of opium use you whittle your receptors down to such a low density that you are perpetually in withdrawal. What a nightmare that would be.

Opioid/opiate abuse causes upregulation of receptors thus creating more receptors for poppy drugs to interact with. In actuality, coming off pods causes receptors to die off and "whittle". Long term poppy usage has been linked to low testosterone, thats pretty much as serious as it gets for the MAJORITY of people. Of course there are always exceptions.

Guhhh... To be fair the speaker was too riled up and was not stating himself clearly enough. He was leaving her holes to escape from. I wish I was on that stage to word it perfectly. He was asking about personal harm from the actual consumption of said drugs. She was responding to the terror and mass violence created by her organizations efforts to make the rich richer and the poor dead. I am surprised she didn't just smirk through the whole questioning! "I have a yaught because of these drug laws old man! Shut your shit, I'm not admitting anything"

The more people that blow each others heads off over marijuana the better for her. Like stated, the blood splattered money the pick up off the ground goes back to them... It doesn't get incinerated in some drug money destruction factory... They use it.

Oh wait! I saw a different video earlier today with an older gentleman with glasses who was a bit too worked up to keep in line properly, this guy did a good job, she is a fucking snake and is lucky she wore black because she probably sweat a litre in that chair. I have to imagine with so much harsh questioning for what appears to have been quite a while from several people... She could use a Valium (Which I use, but, consider a very DANGEROUS drug and can be very harmful also!)

are you sure? I've always thought it was the opposite, and that downregulation is what causes withdrawal.

If your receptors are increased while you use, wouldn't you get higher and higher? Wouldn't you get anti-tolerant?

The increase in receptors does not mean they stay at the same sensitivity. You gain more "lower functioning" receptors. Hence you gotta use more and more. Of course there is a "cap" at which tolerance comes to a plateau. Tolerance is based on more than just up/down regulation of receptor sites. PS- if the receptors decreased in number while using, we would never get sick, as sickness comes from not having enough receptor activity in percent form, ex: 10/10 is 100% activity, 50/100 is only 50%. Yeah 10<50 but 100%>50% so the first example would be a MAJOR overdose while the second is low level high/coming down.

This is the most ridoculous thread ive ever seen people are basically agreeing with the dumb bitch who says all drugs are equally dangerous

Ive never once typed smh on a forum, text message or anywhere

But im shaking my damn head -___-

I am shaking my head at you. I don't think you understand WHY people are saying this. Namely that, strictly speaking, diamorphine in of it self, shows little, if any, chronic toxicity. Albeit not difficult to overdose on, that is a separate issue. Anything which you consume in a lethal is lethal [duh] even water. Never the less, it is difficult to argue that diamorphine possess any long term toxicity in of it self, and hence, is arguably harmless in that respect.

^Dangerous, yes. Harmful, not so much.

Take a knife for example; it has the potential to kill you very easily if used in the necessary fashion, such as heroin does when the dose is high enough. But use that knife correctly, and you will come to no harm.

you are correct in that regard. but let's use that as a similar comparision- what's more harmful - a toothbrush or a knife? would you argue that the toothbrush is equally dangerous because it can be carved down into a prison shank when the knife is already sharp and you could fall and accidently cut yourself with it as is?

lol ugh once the discussion gets to me making dumb ass comparisions like this it is time for the discussion to be over

Yes you can die from weed. Just because there are no recorded reports does not mean it not possible. And i guess you could say i have "overdosed" on weed in that i smoked so much i was uncomfortable and had many negative effects. In respect to toxicity, opiates/opioids are the least damaging to the human body compared to weed, cocaine, alcohol, meth/amps, ketamine, and, god forbid, bathsalts. In reality, diamorphine should be schedule II as it has medicinal use (replaced morphine in the UK for a long time). If anything it has more medicinal uses than ethyl alcohol. If illegality, scheduling, and over all bodily damage were the criteria for how "dangerous" a substance is, weed is worse than heroin

I'm sorry but that's stupid. I can give you a money back guarantee that no one will ever die simply from the direct effects of marijuana; you know this, but choose to be nit-picky with technicalities. Thousands die daily from taking opiates/opioids, probabaly more so than your whole list. This is reality. Reality lays waste to hypothetical truths.

How about this: people suffer ten times more physical/mental damage from taking derivatives of the opium poppy than from ingesting natural cannabinoids? People smoke both, granted. But the damage from injecting something that oftentimes has substances in it that literally tears apart your insides is kind of substantial, and the great majority of opiate/opiod addicts will eventually inject if they're not stopped; next to no one injects cannabinoids. How many people do you think assult their veins, circulatory system, limbs, or otherwise "parts" by injecting something with opiate/opioid activity? I just remember reading about someone who injected himself with water from a mud puddle because he was going through unbelievable pain and NEEDED his fix as soon as possible. Insufflating is also a physical issue, though much less serious.

You're not even right anyways, because opiates/opioids can depress breathing so much as to deprive the brain of oxygen, causing,(wait for it)... physical damage8o. Oh lordy. Ever heard of marijuana doing that? Shall we get into the anti-carcinogenic aspects of marijuana?

Actually, alcohol can be safely ingested every day (in moderate amounts) by a majority of the population without them becoming emotionally fused to it. Medicinally, it facilitates social discourse VERY well, so contributes to the cohesiveness of our society, from helping people to their first lay to subtly breaking the ice when an old man meets his daughter's husband. It won't make you withdraw and worship the heroin deity. It usually takes effort and some other problem to become addicted. It is not a drug of the degenerate.

Actually, you know what Serotonin101, you be the judge. Here: http://drugwarfacts.org/cms/?q=node/28. Which tower is bigger? Which might cause more overall damage? Quiz will be graded and returned next week.

Heroin is, to be honest, remarkably useless with morphine around. Marijuana and other chemicals have pain-killing qualities that could rival, too.

Anyways, I didn't even mean to quote you, but that was some warped stuff dude. You're going to put some fourteen year old kid on the wrong path with that shit. Fourteen year old kid, if you're listening, listen to me: weed is one of the safest drugs you can use recreationally, but it can still hurt you a lot if you disrespect it. Heroin is NOT safe to use. Weed is a treat if you choose and are responsible, but heroin becomes another food.

Ok...

I just wanted to say that the conversation quoted by the OP shows how bureaucratic the drug war still is. Even today, with the trove of evidence we have citing marijuana's relative safety, the DEA seems to be pursuing a policy largely based on 1940's hearsay. Its good that this person was caught in the act; maybe the powers that would take away liberty will realize, with enough such embarrassments, that they can't hide the truth anymore, and that a reasonable integration of now many illegal drugs into mainstream society could lead to the public good, not anarchy or what not. No doubt there is a lot of money to be made for a few in keeping many drugs sold by prescription or banned. However, I don't quite know all the facts, so can't make an absolute judgement.

Peace

I'm not saying heroin is safe for all to use. I'm saying when proper dosing is used such as at diamorphine clinics the damage is virtually nil. Also you bring up impurities and mud puddles. Last time I checked, "mud puddles" and other "substances" are not diamorphine. That's comparing apples to oranges when you factor in common cuts of street heroin and the mostly "uncut" street marijuana. Also "cohesiveness" in society and allowing someone to get laid is not medicinal, sorry. As far as ethyl alcohol is concerned, it's only used as an antiseptic for cleaning OR for treatment of methanol overdose (ingestion of antifreeze). And heroin is more desirable in treating pain. It has lower histamine release and overall less side effects when compared to morphine. When used responsibly, all I'm saying is that heroin (and other opiates/opioids) are safe. Granted there may not be many responsible people, but just walk into any bar and look at all these poor "patients" on their "medicinal alcohol".
