Slightly off-topic but you say you had laced weed once - how do you know it was laced? It is
extremely uncommon for anyone to ever lace your weed without warning you first (as it's very expensive and so of course they'd want to charge you for whatever else you're consuming). Anxiety is normal when you smoke too much weed, and weed can act like a very strong dissociative when too much is smoked with no tolerance, which leads to a lot of people assuming they smoked PCP-laced weed or something.
I've had an out-of-body experience in which I was flying and travelling through time on regular weed when I had low tolerance, and to date it was stronger than most of my psychedelic/dissociative experiences, though it has never happened again since my tolerance rose.
Anyway a little back on topic, mushroom and other psychedelic visuals are a lot more "fictional" feeling, objects warping, coloured overlays, seeing cartoon visions with closed eyes - so you don't have to worry about seeing people who aren't there and stuff.
If you decide to trip, start with a low dose like just 1g (or less if you have liberty caps or another very potent strain) to get a feel for the drug and see how well you react and how you feel on it. At higher doses there is a higher chance of anxiety and having an unpleasant trip, so don't jump in straight at the deep end.
I dont get how any drug woudl come in waves. Youp take it, your body processes it. It's not like your stomach says hey let me set aside 1 g that i'll digest a few hours later. Like yeah I took shrooms and all of a sudden at 4 hours 30 minutes it started getting stronger then 1 hour later is was weaker then all of a sudden stronger. LOL wtf.
I think there are a lot of factors involved, but for example mushrooms don't have an even concentration of active alkaloids throughout them, some parts of the mushroom will have more, some less, etc. So when you're digesting the mushrooms you'll occasionally get large bursts of Psilocybin and Psilocin being absorbed, while other times there will be much less.
It's also possible that different ratios of Psilocybin to Psilocin in different parts of the mushrooms lead to faster and slower metabolism of the Psilocybin into Psilocin, and different concentrations of each reaching the brain at different stages of the trip - creating "faster" and "slower" parts of the trip. Just theories, but there are many things that could explain these waves.

Also, we have a First Time Mushrooms thread specifically for this subject, so me or another mod will merge this thread with that one once you've had a chance to reply
