fuuuuuck me, this last page has been a slog

right, I'll fucking watch it tonight if its available to download. I'm selective, but I like a challenge, and I like surprises. I hate seann-wank-william, but I'm feeling open minded.

If it's only at the flicks then I wont be paying dosh for it though, nor will I be watching a wanky telesync (sp?) like Crackers would, that shit's for plebs and plebs alone. I'll stoop to an R5 if the shitty cam sound isn't out of synch though.

Titanic/Titanic 3D - Same difference. High score, pish film.

I like comedies. Not that kind though. Sounds like a fucking Adam Sandler movie.

I'm guessing almost any of your favourite top 10 films are going to have reviews that are roughly inline with it...?

I actually don't know what you mean by that.

^^ Methinks you place to much stock on the opinions of jaded and easily bought off professional critics, Meeestar SB. Whilst it's true they are paid to look a lil more indepth at the reasons why a film is "good" or "bad" I think it's also fair to say that the majority of viewers couldn't give two shits about why a film may be technically incredible whilst simultaneously being a total chore to watch. They tend to be looking for different things than the average viewer and draw comparisons that are meanigless for most. Gut instinct is probably a more useful way to judge whether a film is worth a looksee, I'd suggest. Nobody knows your personal taste better than you yourself. Certainly not paid professionals anyway.

Truth.

Just one film I have watched lately based on recommendations from RT that has been absolutely amazing. It was a really awesome film/doc that I wouldn't have heard of were it not for RT.

Truth.

It's not an Adam Sandler style movie at all... strangely enough the reviewers agree with you on that too. They have reviewed all his films and 33/38 have been written off as total shit, and the 5 they've said are good are rated as 'passable' but barely worth watching. What I mean is, you name me your top 5-10 favourite films and we'll see how far off the combined weight of reviewers is shall we? Let's put them to the test. Your gut instinct is totally worthless because you are judging a book by it's cover, which is far stupider than trusting the combined weight of hundreds of professionals. It has almost certainly lead you into missing hundreds of good films and watching hundreds of shit ones.

Herzog is one of the few truly great filmmakers alive today, imo

Yes Indeed. He did a similar set of docs that aired on C4, but this is one doc where he looks at every aspect of one particularly complex set of murders that lead to executions in the state of Texas. The questions he asks are so perfect and insightful that I genuinely believe he is one of those people who was born to make films. Everything is perfect; the score, the shots, the speed of the film, the questions, the interviews themselves, the set of people he interviews. You really come away from it with almost no questions because he has managed to do the impossible - tell a real life story from every angle with only a slight anti-death penalty bias that he is more than aware of himself. I think it is his straight up integrity that leads him into getting the best out of people and making the best films.

I love him for pretty much the same reasons. I've taken a lot of direction from him tbh, perspective on humanity etc. he's interested in the human condition and with no cynical underlying motives, and it shows, and it's been particularly helpful to me over the years.

I remember reading somewhere, possibly an interview, where he seemed to be scathing towards psychiatrists in general, which rang bells in my head, and I've been a fan ever since. his intent, coupled with his developed personal approach to people makes me love him tons

Yeah, like I said, it was a pretty massive surprise for me. If it had been all punching people in the face and acting like a jock I wouldn't have liked it, but instead it's a nice healthy dose of violence (dunno if it's your thing), and the character sort of grows on you in a way you would be surprised Sean Williams could act. The full quality DL is worth a watch. I'm not saying it's on par with Hitchcock or anything stupid like that, just that it was enjoyable.

I actually attempted to download it there just to put an end to this but it's a cunt to find due to some release group thingy being called Goon so typing Goon into your friendly neighbourhood torrent search engine brings up fucking hundreds of random movies.

MSB - I'm crazy bored with your chat tbh, sorry man. I'm out. I would put my top 5 films to the test of the almighty critics but I couldn't name my top 5 films, I think anyone that can is lying.

Edit - Actually, I'll chuck one in there just to (slightly) prove a point. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/how_high/

You can't forget just that calm dreamy voice. Listening to him talk is like taking a valium. When he speaks it almost flows like your own thoughts, and i'd really like to know how he does it. I wish Louis Theroux would pull up a pew with him, because he could really turn him from good into great I think.

I very much doubt that... I hardly ever pick a duffer if I do say so meself. And, as mentioned, I was a paid film critic for a bit too so surely that makes my gut instinct have wider meaning, no? Would do according to your rationale anyway ;)

Can't say whether I've missed out on some amazing films due to ingrained prejudice or misleading gut but is obviously extremely probable. But same goes for anyone whatever they base their film choices on surely. I'm guessing you haven't watched every highly-rated (by IMDB and the like) film? You've no doubt missed some corkers too then. Not to mention the hundreds of criminally overlooked masterpieces that dwell in the lower echelons of the ratings systems.

Use the Force, grasshopper. The Force of your own instincts rather than somebody else's presumed superior intellectualising. Or don't. 'Sup to you really. Each to their own, eh? :)

Herzog?? im intrigued, need to look into this. only been skimming through, recommend me a load of Herzog stuff i should watch,

in case you wanna still bother, took this screenshot of my newsgroup search for it. these are the available version it came up with [100mb dl ftw!]

might help to search using the same name of the format you'd prefer from the list below, but via torrent search engines

haha!

I've got it now, too, so I'm off for a long bath and gonna watch it on my lappy while splashing about*. lappy is on a stool, so don't start getting excited about me getting electrocuted**.

*that way if it's shit, I wont resent MSB for wasting my time, cos I'll be doing something productive at the same time
** but lol, if I did die in the bath now, that'd be a decent claim-to-forum-fame MSB, 'I killed Marmz' ... =D

[edit] I'm in Bluntsie's head right now, and he's doubting himself & full of regret, thinking, 'fuck, both of them are gonna watch it, but in retrospect it wasn't THAT good, hoe noes, what am I gonna dooo?' ;p

I really have been wasting my time if I am dealing with someone so dim they can't see that typing 'goon' into the piratebay brings up 26 correct torrents on just the first page of the search! Just name 5 films you consider to be amazing..? I'm not saying they are almighty or unquestionable, just they are a much better indicator than a person who is incapable of approaching things with an open mind. I really will be surprised if you say you like it now that you've given it the biggun about hating him. It would be too big of a climb down.

I enjoy how high, but it is a throw away film that I only find funny because i'm a stoner. It's hardly clever, or a classic. There is absolutely no reason it would be slightly funny to anyone who isn't a pot head. In just the same way that you would be incapable of saying you liked a film with Sean Williams in it, I don't think you'd be capable of saying you strongly disliked anything Redman or Method Man did.

i've got it on the 'purchase' as well, watched the trailer and it looks a bit poo but probably entertaining enough to have on in the background while i sand down this fucking petrol tank.

even though MSB mostly chats a lot of bollocks %), his documentary/films recommendations are usually quite good :)

maybe he's on virgin media (who've blocked the bay ... you can still view it though, obviously, with a few tweaks n shit)

also, maybe you might ave missed the bit he wrote later, where it was already 'purchased' and waiting to be watched

@ Dan: I'm orf in thee bath, MSB might give you a starting place for Herzog, if he's got time. best I can recommend to you specifically, would be to work from latest and then back chronologically from there .. so oldest last <3

[edit]
my back up plan: love Considine, hope he directs well, even though it looks a bit depressing, so probably best for another time atm as I'm feeling chipper atm
