Sod the jubilee!

ok, this original argument was about how the jubilee was a waste of Taxpayers money that could of been spent better right?

How did it morph into what it currently is??

It's not really the taxpayers money. It's money that has come out of the Queens pocket, which she gave to the state and then collected a fraction back. Therefore it was her money that was spent on these festivities, not the taxpayer.

because MSB reckons we can't call it a waste of money until we all forgo all our luxuries.

Any of you who have a home, eat, went to school, or have a job, stop criticising. Because you're the same as the Queen.

She just spends more because she has more. There is no evidence in your life that you would behave any differently were the roles reversed. You don't have to forgo all luxuries, just a teeny tiny amount would make you look so much less hypocritical. Lead by example.

When I told you I donate a small part of my weekly wage (not a teeny tiny amount) to 4 different charities, you scoffed, and called it crumbs, implying that the charities concerned would not even notice it.

The money i donate would be spent on luxuries (by your definition) were it not going to charity.

So I am, again by your definition, forgoing "a teeny tiny amount" of luxury.

So what are you saying? Do you even know any more?

Right... so that justifies you having your luxuries? Agreed. So when the Queen gives away millions of pounds and supports hundreds of charities and global peace initiatives that doesn't justify her having luxuries, why?

If you really can't see the difference between the life/earnings/"luxuries" of a fucking postman, and those of the Queen, you are, as I have said many times, fucking thick. You argue the toss for the sake of it. Your arguments aren't even coherent.

I suspected that what it boiled down to was differences in levels of wealth which justifies your luxuries but not hers. So, lecturemonkey, where is the cut off point? Twice as rich as you? Ten times as rich as you? Fifty times as rich as you? You don't seem to realise that the gap between the life the Queen lives and the life you live is far narrower than the gap between the life a subsaharan African lives and the life you live, do you? If an African saw you on TV and said "what a selfish greedy bastard" would they be in the right or not? According to your logic they would be in the right. While they are sat there with flies on their face, AIDs in their blood, and worms in their tummy, you're off galivanting on a boat with a spliff in your mouth and snails and scallops in your stomach. So you can take full and guiltless enjoyment out of your life, just so long as there is someone out there who is richer than yourself to shift the blame on to. Your behaviour and your holier than thou high horsery aren't even coherent.

You know. I take it all back. You have been right all along.

About everything on which you opine.

There's no need for you to reply to this. As there's nothing for you to disagree with.

But how'd it get into the queen's pocket in the first place? Who paid?

That said, she's a grand old lady - " not much up top but thoroughly pleasant " as Hastings Banda observed - and she's served her role as the nation's figurehead tirelessly and with distinction for a long time. You have to be very churlish indeed not to wish her well in her declining years. The parasites that constitute the minor royals could be relocated to council flats in Hartlepool without damaging the national fabric one jot but the queen doesn't deserve a hard time. Presumably Prince Phil is past consorting with ladies of easy virtue and we hope he recovers from his bladder infection with his strange and sometimes entertaining sense of humour intact.

Bread and circuses, really, but not worth raising a fuss for the 72p per taxpayer head the jubilation will cost. Let it be and enjoy your day off work.

The Royal Family, just like any long established family with wealth stretching back centuries, has an awful lot of land and assets accrued. She decided to give all the profit from her lands and her fortune directly to the government in return for a stipend to perform her royal duties. The Queen herself is apparently very frugal. Most of the money she gets is spent maintaining homes that tourists potter around. I for one wouldn't wish her job on anyone. Poor old Harry can't even smoke a spliff in peace. I have heard that although the Jubillee did cost a reasonable amount of money for us to put on, it did give a £700 million boost to tourism, and once again made us the center of global attention despite being a tiny wind swept island.

Although I know you don't actually mean this, I take solice in the fact that you said it because you have no satisfactory reply to give to what I said above.

No, its the same reason most people stop arguing with you, it just gets fucking tedious.

And it's solace, not solice thicko.

Yes, any monarchist source or media will tell us all that, MSB, but where did her ancestors get the loot? From looting and pillaging and doing the kind of thing that, if you did it, would put you behind bars for life, that's where.

But you're right about the tourist boost. Our manufacturing industries may be bankrupt but the country can always turn a buck as a historical theme part. Put on your tights and jesters cap ( made in China ), get out and sell your cans of ye olde coca cola at a traditional tourist mark-up.

Ah, I guess it was coincidental that you decided to stop once i'd absolutely smashed your petty bullshit argument about the jubillee to bits then? The icing on the cake is that you chose to insult my hastily written sentence's spelling; A final pitiful attempt to gain back a tiny bit of respect for yourself after being thoroughly trounced :)

That's just the way things were back then though, weren't they? We can't really hold our ancestors to account by todays values. The only reason we live an even vaguely decent life is because they engaged in such behaviour collectively. In the transition from feudal to capitalist property rights the royal family seem to have managed to keep a lot of the land they previous owned.

Co-incidental? No, it just happened to be the moment I'd had enough of this. I've seen you pull out the above quote on other people who've become bored with your shite.

Yep, yet another MSB victory, a trouncing even.

We should compile all your various victories in one thread.

I don't think a single thread could contain all of my victories. The amount of bandwidth dedicated to my levels of win is already almost on par with porn. I apologise whole heartedly for getting into a discussion about the jubilee/queen in a thread you created to do such a thing. O, and sorry for showing up the gap between what you expect of others and how you live your own life. You kind of remind me of all those middle class families who say "drugs are bad, ban them! ban them!", *opens a bottle of wine every night*.
