Moneyball (2011)

I enjoyed it, but I feel like I'm missing something from it. Or I guess I just don't understand why it was nominated for so many awards. It was a good movie and had good acting, but it doesn't really stand out from other movies imo. I did enjoy seeing Johan Hill in a different type of role; thought he did well.

Also recently watched for the first time:

-Bridesmaids (2011; was slighlty disappointed, probably because everyone talked so highly of it. Didn't have as many laughs as I expected)

-Drugstore Cowboy (1989; pretty good film and story. Though I felt like I missed some deeper point they were trying to make)

-The Lincoln Lawyer (2011; had pretty much no expectations for the film, which I usually like, and that helped as I definitely enjoyed this film. It moved along pretty well and was an interesting story. Marisa Tomei was hot and Ryan Phillippe played his part well, as did many of the other actors.)

The Grey

a remake of Pitch Black. but i learned something from this one... if you have survived a disaster and are trying to make your way to safety while members of your group are slowly being picked off by hungry monsters, [spoil]it's possible that the really stoic guy who speaks rarely but with a tone of great knowing and importance--like he has seen so much of life that he now lives on a higher plane of consciousness--might be some verse-sputtering idiot who is leading you down the most inanely difficult path right into the monster's den.[/spoil]

i'm usually not one for "so bad it's good" moments in movies, but i imagine the weighted conversation between the last [spoil]two[/spoil] survivors qualifies. whatthefuck.

drugs are bad.

A couple of my latest viewings :

Moneyball (2011)

I also failed to see the raging enthusiasm over this, it was a decent film but it wasn't great.

I had sort of the opposite reaction to Bridesmaids. I expected a typical ditzy, unfunny romantic comedy, but I got more laughs than I thought I would.

I also saw:

Horrible Bosses

Throughout the entire film I kept seeing charlie kelly, as if he had left philly and found a job as a sexually harassed dental assistant.

It was a solid comedy, nothing spectacular but it was fun.

I also revisited Boogie Nights last night. I love Boogie Nights :)

Meh.

It had some funny moments. But for the most part pretty boring. Good performance from Josh Brolin though, he sounded a lot like Tommy Lee Jones.

Iron Sky, wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, still sucks a bit.

In short da cia is bad, bit tedious as it's a subject almost done to death over the years imo. Denzel is brilliant in it though.

First Man into Space

50s monster movie. and dated propaganda. has the feel of a Mystery Science Theater 3000 movie. not one to seek out, but it made for alright background entertainment while i was trying to get some work done.

finally saw they live. enjoyed the tone of it quite a lot, but that silly fist fight chews up quite a lot of the 90 minutes.

Finally saw Iron Man. I had heard it was good, but was never in the mood to see it I guess. Definitely enjoyed it. For some reason Gwyneth Paltrow kind of annoys me though. It had nothing to do with her performance, I just find part of her annoying for some reason.

Maybe its because she's a really annoying person? ;)

She's one of those A-Listers that think they're so far above the average person that they're incapable of playing somebody likable.

This is England is pretty great, I viewed it randomly a few years ago and walked away with a strong impression.

I recently watched Hemingway and Gellhorn , with Clive Owen as Ernest Hemingway and Nicole Kidman as Martha Gellhorn. If you look carefully you will notice Lars Ulrich of Metallica attempting a french accent.

2/5

Watched Tropic Thunder for the first time last night. Was wayy more hilarious than I thought it would be.

I love the fake movie previews in the beginning
