Opioids Dilaudid for wisdom teeth ?

I'm getting my wisdom teeth out in a few days they are impacted so it's not an easy surgery. The thing is I've been wanting to try Dilaudid or Demerol for years (particularly Dilaudid) but never had a good reason to ask a doctor for it. If I asked the surgeon for one of these would he look at me like I have a third head? Would they prescribe something like that for this?

Noo they would NOT prescribe you that for wisdom teeth, the most your gunna get for that is some lortabs. sorry man.
 
Wisdom tooth pain doesn't really class as chronic unbearable pain (although it can feel that way). You'll only realistically be getting lightweight pain relief. Dilaudid is prescribed for things like slipped disks and other, more crippling causes of chronic pain.

When I had brain abscesses, the most they gave me was codeine. Point in case.
 
I remember reading on the news when Lindsay Lohan was on probation that her oral surgeon prescribed Dilaudid for wisdom teeth removal so I guess it must be done sometimes?
 
See if you can find out who Lindsey Lohan's oral surgeon is!
otherwise you're looking at hydrocodone or percs.
If you ask for dilaudid...well...I don't think you should...;)

I have kidney stone episodes, ...they'll give me a shot of dilaudid or
morphine @ the ER...but they always try to send me home with lortab 5's....silly dr's.

I would not accept that BS, if your still in pain, call them and let them know. Especially after surgery, depending on what kind, it's not good to be taking huge excesses of acetaminophen.

During one of my wisdom teeth extractions, they were all coming in fucked up directions so when they took the X-rays and were like, im not gunna lie this is going to be very painful. I showed them in my chart that I was already opioid dependent, since I am, because I was worried about waking up during the procedure due to my very high opioid tolerance at the time, and they were very compassionate.

I'm not going to say what I got, but it was surprising for a wisdom tooth extraction. They gave me like, demerol/midazolam to start with and the demerol wasn't strong enough so I think they had an anesthesiologist who also saw my chart, who monitored my vitals and gave me over 200mcg fentanyl and made sure my take-home medicine wasn't something bullshit like the standard percocet or vicodin, because I had legitimate medical reasons why I needed high-dose opioid medication.

I don't know who this was directed at..but if it was me...the first time I tried to call and say...I was just there 3 hours ago..blah blah blah..the this med's a joke...then they just told me I'd have to come back in..

which #1..I live an hour away from anywhere
and #2..Kidney stones keep me from wanting to be in a car for an hour.

but...I've still done it anyway...
Now, i just argue w/them until one of us gives up!

Greetings from a country where getting codeine/tramadol after wisdom teeth removal is actually a very good achievement. 8)

Can't believe you guys are getting hydrocodone/oxycodone for something like that. I think US is actually quite a liberal country when it comes to pain management.
 
My sister had her teeth pulled and they gave her Liquid hydrocodone/apap. It ended up making her sick, so they gave her Liquid codeine/tylenol. Both of them made her sick so i got both bottles :)
 
I had 4 impacted wisdom teeth. Got all 4 taken out at once. The oral surgeon got me insanely high with IV benzos and nitrous, and then the kind man gave me a couple bottles of vicodin (which were the spark that light my addiction fire).

Yes, I had all 4 wisdom teeth impacted and extracted, and only got vicodin. And FYI, i had one of the worst healing times possible. Oral surgeon told me: some people are literally fine THE NEXT DAY, most are 100% by 5 days. I took over that 5 days, took me over a week to be good, whereas my buddy who got them pulled (same weekend as me) was literally good a day later. ONE DAY and his swelling totally subsided, a week later and i'm still drinking milkshakes (Daniel Plainviews my buddy).

However, I do know someone who got dilaudid from their dentist/oral surgeon, for a tooth/jaw infection or something along these lines we're discussing. I cant remember if it was because they were allergic to vicodin and not dilly, or if it was because that doc preferred giving out 2mg dillies vs vikes. Whatever the case was, that is the only person i've EVER met who got dillys from a dentist/oral surgeon. I feel most people are not that fortunate.

I guess its POSSIBLE, but very rarely happens. And i will just guarantee you right now, you start asking your doc for dilaudid and youre going to be leaving their office with a nice bottle of advil.
 
I actually have a similar experience to the above post.

When I had my wisdom teeth out, I had 3 impacted and extracted by an oral surgeon. Following a *wonderful* experience with a cocktail of nitrous, IV midazolam and IV fentanyl for the conscious sedation, I was sent home with 25 Percocet. Around here, the norm for wisdom teeth is either Tylenol 3 or Percocet, depending on the doctor and the amount of teeth taken out, etc. However, I've heard of one case where a buddy of mine got Demerol for his wisdom teeth, but he was seeing an old duffer of a dentist. As for Dilaudid for wisdom teeth....not bloody likely. Around here, dentists and oral surgeons even get a bit touchy about prescribing Percocet since we have a massive oxy problem here.
 
You better pray your dentist is an idiot if you plan on asking for dilaudid for wisdom teeth removal. Only somebody who was seeking a strong opiate would specifically request dilaudid for such a procedure. I could understand something different (low-dose opana, etc) especially if it was something with a time-release, but otherwise you're asking for trouble. Nothing screams "drug seeker" like asking for straight dilaudid, and I assume you're pretty young if you're getting this procedure as well

Not necessarily true. The only reason you'd need them removed is because they are impacted I.E. everyone who's had them removed had impacted teeth. It still is fairly basic, they smash it, pull the bits out, and sew you up. The only thing the surgeon needs to worry about is hitting a nerve in your jaw and causing nerve damage, but this risk is present to everyone who has theyre wisdom teeth out. I don't want to sound rude but I think you're hyping up this basic and common surgery in hopes of getting something nice. Wanna know what I got for a script when I got my wisdom teeth out? 600mg ibprofen pills -_-
 
Honestly...it's 50/50. I had a dntist who prescirbed m 30mg of oxycodone a day just WAITING. For the surgery they were going to INJECT me with dilly. So theres hope. Depends who your Dr is.I wouldnt ask for it though. The worst i did was when I ran out I said "hey those pills I got really helped me (oxy) and the Dr wrote "drug seeking behavior"
 
When I had mine taken out after rolling around in pain for days (one was impacted against my jaw bone) I was told to take Ibuprophen after the extraction. My friend had four taken out at the same time (I still have two of mine) he was given 5mg narcos.

So it depends, but I seriously doubt you will get anything like you're hoping for. Also if you are truely in the ammount of pain I was just having the damn things extracted is going to be a huge relife in itself. The pain afterwards is nothing compared to the impacted tooth.

Also for what its worth I have a really good/old dentist. He did a root canal on me last year to drain an abcess with no pain meds required, and I didn't even take a shot for the second visit to put the crown on. So don't expect anything, much less mention it, as IME the better dentists can work on you without having to prescribe pain meds. I know I'll take this old man over a quack that'll break out that pad for any minor thing any day of the week.
 
An older gentleman I know had all of his teeth pulled...
then they gave him demerol...is that how you spell it?

80mg..you had a nice dentist!
