I read most of the quran whilst v psycotic and it made alot more sense than when i read it before
Just like if we were in a conversation about say Modonna already, I could say "their music is shit" or I could say "her recent music is shit". You can use pluralistic pronouns despite the fact you are describing a singular noun - so sayeth the Oxford dictionary. You Sir, have been beaten at your own game.
Yeah, but 'their' would usually only be used if you hadn't explicitly referred to Madonna already. As soon as you have, then convention leans heavily toward the use of 'her'.
You sir, need to know when it's best to stop clutching at straws.![]()
lol. Welcome back mate! How are you spending your 420?
It's not incorrect to refer to the singular with the plural though. That isn't clutching at straws. I regularly use 'their' when refering to one person, especially when I am talking about 'their' work.
Yes, but context is everything. What's acceptable in one context is downright bizarre in another.
So when someone has said 'x' artist, you have never say 'they' are shit? Hardly that bizarre, especially when you are referring to past tense.
Sectioned for half a year mate haha, yourself?
Erm... did I say that? Or anything remotely like it? Nope.
Can you make me a wicker basket while you're at it?
I don't mind pedantry so much, it pretty much earns its worth as a mechanism for keeping Sam and Bluntsie on their toes on a regular basis...
That's what we're talking about derpina... my use of the word 'they' to refer to a single person.
...Which I know I'm doing now, but only because
Honestly, forget it.
You just don't see how silly you make yourself look sometimes, pursuing these spurious arguments. Which I know I'm doing now, but only because your sense of gleeful triumph was so misplaced that I found myself weighing in. Silly? Probably.
If this is what you're like in real life, then tell your wife I feel sorry for their.
It's possessive so it doesn't fit there. No wonder you dropped out of English so early on in the course![]()
Since when did I ever drop out of linguistics? Or even study it?
Honestly, forget it.

I would have expected you to have mastered the basics of the English language before getting there, not learn it there. Hence the dropping out![]()
