horses getting injured and dying for entertainment and money is nawt my thing

don't normally wave my fundamentals in the air, but if I didn't for the GN I'd feel like a bit of a traitor. so here I am, perhaps a bit limp-wristedly.

I don't actually like horse racing at all, it's just an excuse to gamble really.

But then again, I don't like horses either so the Grand National can be fun to watch. See who gets carted off to the glue factory this year.
 
Arrrrrgh! 8o I need something to do with myself! My guy messed up my order and gave me 3 whites and one Brown, instead of One W three B. That's an addicts nightmare for the first hit of the day, thankfully I had half a bag left over from last night. I should have made sure he'd heard me, as he sounded like he was just waking up when I rang him. He usually never needs to ask what I want.

Think i'll go for a wander and see what I can make happen. Yesterday's wander found me 100 quid! Lucky Friday the 13th, should have saved some for a flutter on the National, but I think i've had all my luck for a few days, found another white on the footpath on Thursday night too!

Good luck if anyone's put any bets on! :D

don't really understand the above, but it sounds like abuse of a fair use policy to me. and while i don't condone fair use policies that are a result of hidden small print from mega corps, I'm more than accomodating of the ones which come from an intrinsic nature.

I don't want horses to die just so i can gamble. making the wealthy, more wealthy is another, annoying side effect. it just aint necessary. but that's secondary to me. there are better ways and codes of practice that can be introduced to avoid such

I'm with you Marmz. I understand that it's a national institution and I hate to be a party pooper but something where animals tend to get nastily injured and have to be shot, so everyone can have the excitement of a flutter, is not okay at all in my eyes. No fucking need... :X

I used to think it was cruel, then I noticed that when the riders fell off the horses kept running. If they didn't enjoy it they'd just say fuck this and stop running, but most will complete the race riderless. What I am adversed to is them killing them when they aren't race worthy, it's like betraying their trust and loyalty.
 
They're herd animals MSB, their instinct is to run together as there's safety in numbers. I can see both sides tbh, especially when you stand next to those jumps but the Irish side of my family would probably disown me if I turned anti. But people change as they get older and I definitely find the falls & graphic images harder to watch then I used to.

I don't even watch or get involved in horse racing, my dad just enjoys it. You can read it on the horses faces that they enjoy running. Some of the jumps are obviously way too high too.

Don't really understand the above. NH racing is not the sport of Kings, that's the other one (flat). The only 'rich getting richer' are bookies and taking money off them is more like mugging a criminal.

I don't want horses to die either. I hope they don't. Me not having a bet is not going to save any mind.

@ bluntsie: i think the jewpacapra [sp?] might be after yer. did you convert to Judaism yet? I asked in the old gibberings thread but i dunno if you saw. t'was an ace ep anyways

I thought the episode had it's parts, but this weeks episode was brilliant. And the meme episode was up there with some of the older ones.
