16yo brother wants to try LSD....

The religious ceremonies pictured in Les Hallucinogenes du Mexique from when Wasson was researching the indigenous use of Psilocybe Mexicana, shows people that appear younger than 16.

16 is the legal age of drinking alcohol in some countries.

As long as someone is mature, fully informed, and is desiring the experience... it's their choice.

You won't be able to stop him from doing it on his own if he truly wishes to pursue it. It is far better to be his guide and sitter, and ensure a positive experience, rather than letting him go at it on his own and potentially have a bad one.

That's how I would look at the situation if I were in your shoes.

To be honest it sounds like your brother wants to take a step up from marijuana and start exploring other substances which is normal. Personally, i think it would be a better idea to give him like 1.5-1.7 of mushrooms instead of the lsd. although i enjoy acid alot more then mushies (mushies being to creepy for me, cannot handle the anxiety sometimes), i think a small dose of mushrooms would be perfect for he is still young, he will get visuals and learn more about himself. i also find the mushrooms can be a little easier on the body, and the fact they don't last so long.

No he is not too young. Myself and many other people I know were 16 when we had our first LSD experiences and it worked out great for us, and we were mature for our age and treated the LSD experience as a way to learn about ourselves and not just tripping to see OEVs/CEVs, to party, or to take the drug as a purely recreational experience.

Everyone is different and it's up to him to decide if he is ready or not. I have friends who are very immature and I knew them as teenagers or young adults and they didn't trip until they were a lot older.

Honestly, I think he would be too young to get any significant insight and introspection from his trip. One needs some life experience so they can gauge where they're going in their lives, how they can shape up their lives, what mistakes they've made, what they'll do in the future, etc.

I had my first psychedelic trip at 20, because I felt like I was "ready" for it at that point in my life, and felt like some serious introspection was in order.

Sometimes people forget that psychedelic therapy can be extremely beneficial if you have a developed enough mind to benefit from it.

Recreationally, well, that's a whole different ballgame ;) It's up to him, what does he want out of the trip?

I did my first 8th of shrooms at age 15, I was like >120 lbs and needless to say it blew me away. A real life-changer.

before that in middle school I was prescribed amphetamine as ADD medication, I stopped taking it because it turned me into a cynical, depressed, 8th grader lol. I think that my daily usage of amphetamine as a child was a pretty detrimental to my psychological development and I feel as though that 8th of shrooms fixed up any problems that might have occurred from overuse of amphetamines. My life was considerably happier after that one "peak" experience.

I think it's to young, his brain is still developing.

I didn't touch any drugs till I was 20 as well.

LSD is really or can be a big life changer, better to wait for the drug to find you then you go searching ..

^ Sure the brain is still developing. It is actually developing until 22 years of age. The question is whether it actually has negative impact on development; from what I read it doesn't seem so, unless said person takes extreme amounts AND in bad set & setting.

I would wager that regular use of caffeine or nicotine has a greater effect on physiological development of the brain than occasional psychedelic usage.

I first tried LSD at the age of 15, and I don't think it messed me up too badly lol

I would start with a regular dose though... I think it was about my 6th time or so that I took 7 dubs and had a very bad night... trippy, but bad trippy.

The fact you are encouraging a adolescent teenager to try lsd seems pretty absurd to me. Either way just for that itself i am not going to bother arguing with you as you seem pretty certain to give this person the go ahead even though their brain is not fully developed.

if your gonna argue that drugs are bad for a developing brain then surely cannabis comes under this banner too especially as well all know cannabis can become a very regular habit...

loganjp^ as for claiming that young people cannot get significant insight from psychedelic experiences- i think thats a judgemental attitude that is impossible to prove because its overly subjective. i think what you take from psychedelics comes from you as a person, not a statistical age. some people will never get anything deeper from acid than "ooh pretty colours, dude i'm so fucked up". and therefore each to their own.

just remember OP if it goes tits up and you end up in the ER with a nudey nutcase bro your mama aint gonna be happy

Does LSD stop your brain from further development?
As far as drugs go, LSD is probably one of the safest in terms of damage it can do to your body. If he wants to try LSD, let him, give him half a tab, a low dose, or even a gram of shrooms if you that worried. He could be doing meth or any number of other drugs out there but is asking for LSD.

If it were my brother, I would test the waters with mushrooms first, and move on to LSD later....but geez, its not going to kill him or anything....smoking and drinking are worse for your body as far as I am concerned
