my brother is turning 16 soon and he told me he wanted to try lsd on his birthday. Do you think it's too young? He smokes weed but I'm not sure if he has done other drugs.
Now, to those who will say that age doesn't matter and it's all in maturity and in the head, I really don't know about my brother... I think he had done E once. Plus, he has history of psychological marijuana addiction (he would buy some with all his money, then smoke every night before asking me to share some of my stuff with him). He's not dumb, he just has to be guided and learn more about - potential - dangers of LSD.

Honestly he is too young to try Lsd. He brain is not fully developed yet and its not a good idea to take mind altering substances that young as it could do some serious damage. Introduce him to gravity bongs on his birthday or edibles instead.

My first psychedelic experience was on about 3.5g of mushrooms when I was 17- probably similar to about 3 or 4 hits of acid. It was one of the most wonderful things that has ever happened to me.

However, I have been working since I was 14 and have lived alone since I was 16. I would tend to say that most 16 year olds are simply not ready for such a thing. Its not that they wouldnt enjoy it, or get anything from it... Its basically what you said... He probably needs to learn more and be patient. If he really wants to do something strong and life changing and wont take no for an answer, insists that he try it, then you should insist he try a large dose of salvia extract first. See how he handles it. Then make him try it again. It only lasts about 10 minutes and is a good way of judging how a person will handle being removed from their body at high speeds.

If at this point he isnt freaking out and begging for help, then he is probably mentally ready.

Its somewhat cruel, but less so than allowing some one to potentially ruin their life over the course of 7 or 8 deranged hours.

No offense, but that is absolutely terrible advice. I'm not sure if you're being serious or not, though.

i had my first lsd trip at 15 , by 16 i was using 5 tabs and a few points of ice for a good time lol . but then again if it is anything to do with maturity i was kicked out at 15 because i was mixed up with 18 year olds n shit since i was 12 .

^ Sounds crazy to me as well, I have not tried salvia personally but from what I read it can be even more intense trip than LSD so trying that first doesn't give much sense.

If you (OP) think he's not mature at all, please tell him to stay away from these drugs, but if he's at least somewhat mature he could try half or even quarter a hit. From such small dose it's very unlikely for bad trip to happen.

I think he's probably old enough. There's nothin wrong with youngsters eating a little bit of LSD here and there. It's not addictive and if he stays out of the driver's seat in vehicles it's pretty safe.

The most important safety tip is to make sure he has 12 hours of comfortable set and setting lined up. He shouldn't take it if he has to spend part of the trip around strangers that would frighten him or purposefully fuck with his head; or if he has to spend half the trip in silence hiding from his parents. He also shouldn't take it in a mixed gender group where someone has a crush on him or he has a crush on someone, as it could turn all kinds of relationship drama or baggage into a bad trip as well. Make sure he always plans his LSD trips ahead with a designated driver, safe house, water, flashlight, music, etc.

He is already smoking weed, Lsd is a Huge step from that itself and shouldnt be taken lightly even someone at that age.

How is it a huge step? What stairs are being climbed, how did you measure them, and what are the stats on weed vs. LSD?

^Yes that's a better advice actually, while most drugs effects depend on set & setting to certain degree, LSD is ALL about good set & setting. After all I was 15 when I first took LSD too. And I doubt I was all that mature (I'm 23 now). I took it with good friends, in a calm environment at a lake, had plenty of free time and it was great, not dangerous at all.

The fact you are encouraging a adolescent teenager to try lsd seems pretty absurd to me. Either way just for that itself i am not going to bother arguing with you as you seem pretty certain to give this person the go ahead even though their brain is not fully developed.

The distinction you're making is funny is all.

Many would say the same about you encouraging him to use cannabis.

It really boils down to how mature your brother is. I know some sixteen year olds that are more mature and have their head on straighter than other people much older, but I also know some who act like theyre twelve. I dont know your brother but it sounds like he probably isnt all that educated about drugs, seeing as how he has only smoked weed and maybe tried e. If he is really interested in trying it I would make sure he educates himself about lsd as much as possible.

I first did lsd when I was sixteen and it was the second drug I ever tried, and it was the most life changing, beautiful experience of my life. However, before I tried it I thoroughly scoured the internet and any literature I could find about lsd. Things like dosage, making sure you have good set &setting, how long the effects are etc. so I had somewhat of an idea of what to expect. If your brother just wants to try something fun for a good time a powerful psychedelic like lsd is a bad idea if he doesnt know what hes getting himself into.

You know him better than any of us though so the decision is ultimately up you let us know how it goes! And happy birthday to your brother!

has your brain stopped developing? if yes, too bad for you.

i took mushrooms at 16 for my first time. wouldn't recommend it excactly, but i knew what i was doing back than, even had access to harm reduction websites, etc. you should talk to him about his motives and what he knows about the drug and its effects and psychedelics in general. if you think he might be doing it in a shit setting, then you should recommend him to stay away. but ultimatively it's his decision and you cannot forbid it, and if you try it could harm your relationship.

IMO taking lsd once at 16 can't be that bad for him if the trip takes place in a good environment. he already smokes weed on regular basis as it seems, and imo, weed is strong on the mind, especially when smokes regular.
talk to him on an eye-toeye-base, show him that you respect his decisions but also show him that you have honest concerns.

good luck :)

How is there any stepping? I haven't tried marijuana before taking my first psychedelic, and I still haven't got myself properly stoned even after one year of tripping from time to time. I don't find those revelant TBH.

I've taken my first psychedelic being 16. 4-HO-MET. Some might say it's easier than LSD, it's not, it's surely much easier on mind than shrooms but LSD would be more of a calmer version of HOMET in a lower, proper dose.

Still, what's important, is that before I've tried 4-HO-MET, I was educating myself into drugs for over half a year.

i had my first acid trip at 15 and it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. it also sparked my interest in a lot of things that make me who I am today so IMO it all boils down to maturity and ability to "go with the flow"

the first time I did acid I was 17, and a lot more immature than I am now. There's no real age cutoff for when to do it its more (as others have said) how you can handle it and the set and setting of your trip. If he does do it though make sure you do it with him.

Also maybe try shrooms first? I did them before I did acid I think its harder to bug out on shrooms but that may just be my opinion

I talked with him and he said he did alot of research and stuff and he thinks he's ready, so I guess it's his life he does what he wants..
He told me he tried weed, E, salvia, and DMT, which is not bad, but yeah I told him he should try mush first but he doesn't listen and says he wants a more spiritual trip. Haha

If he wants it then he wants it. I try not to influence a decision that someone is particularly intent on, regardless of how I feel about it.

And actually I was quite serious about the Salvia. Recovering from 10 minutes of sheer terror is easier than recovering from 5+ hours of sheer terror.

That is just my opinion, though.

As for him trying all of those other things, Im now confused at this point what this discussion is even about. Assuming he has in fact tried all of those other things, which I find doubtful, then he should be fine.

On the other hand, if he just jumped online and found some names of cool things that are relevant to ease your concerns, then he has already made up his mind.

Let him do it.
