Gay BlueLighters Unite!

I'm not gay, but I guess bigender, and I use the word gay all the time. All my gay friends never have and issues, and take it as offensive either. The word originally never meant homosexual in the first place. It's meaning has changed through out history to multiple different definitions, so I honestly will continue to use it.

This seems like a great thread to ask - as a 'Gay' person do you find the term 'So gay' (when used to describe something as stupid/lame etc) as homophobic/offensive?

I don't find it offensive but I think it's it gives leeway for homophobia especially in schools as I remember myself in school, which is where the use of that starts out as a way of making homosexuality look bad and not something the person saying partakes in themselves.

My sexuality is very complex, as I imagine most people's are. In short though, I am definitely much, much more sexually attracted to men, and have a dormant (unfortunately and not for long) very feminine side. I highly suspect I will end up leading my life as both genders, but sticking with my male sex.

I just found this thread. We have actually been talking about starting a LGBT thread in The dark side as a place for LGBT folk to come together for support if they need it. I agree that BL is an accepting community all around and there is no reason for a special thread other than we do all live in the real world and the real world is still adjusting, mostly very poorly, which doesn't always work out so well for us. (I am bi, though I hate that term and usually just say I am fluid when it comes to sexuality--fits better for me and my world view =D.) Anyway, this seems a good place to ask how people feel about a special support thread in TDS--welcome/needed? or overkill/unnecessary? <3

I agree with not putting it in the dark side and keep it in love and relationships which is more fitting.
Surely for there to be a LGBT community on here, there would need to be a lot of LGBT people, so I would of thought that this thread itself be made a LGBT mega-thread if enough LGBT people were to use it.

I think it'd be fine if you wanted to do that.

Thank you for your replies on the 'so gay' question - It's really interesting (for me anyway) how people can accept the term/word 'gay' in such a derogatory way/meaning.

Can you imagine if 'so gay' was replaced with 'so black' or 'so Chinese' etc. Would it be so socially acceptable? I personally don't think so.

I don't think it would be socially acceptable to say that's so Chinese or black when it you are referring to something weird, crap or an unfortunate event, but it's hard to imagine using them terms in that way and I think it's awful that people use the word gay in that way. It's always reinforced by peer pressure in schools I found when I was at school like 5-10 years ago and it's very intimidating for a gay child. Personally I think school altogether is really bad for every child. Especially when you put towards my argument the child suicides as a result of bullying being reported in the news .

Parents need to take more responsibilities for the mess they make and call offspring
