OK so I've been seeing a pain management doctor and have been switching meds every two weeks because i can't find a good long acting drug. He started me on 10/325 percocet for breakthrough and MSContin 15mg for long acting pain relief. That didn't work so he switched me over to 10mg oxyIR for breakthrough because the tylenol was giving me headaches and for long acting switched me to Oxycontin 10mg(OP). The 10mg OP didn't work so now he has switched me over to 25mcg fentanyl patch and still on 10mg oxyIR for breakthrough.

I get 120 oxyIR/month for breakthrough and 10 - 25mcg fentanyl patches/month for long acting. The fentanyl patch is working great. First time I've ever tried fentanyl patches, let alone fentanyl. I used to be an Oxycontin/opiate addict a few years back so i'm pretty well versed on how opiates work and have tried pretty much all opiates except fentanyl. They generic brand that i get is "ACTAVIS" and they have gel inside the patches. The edges of the patch started to peal off a bit so i used regular band aids to keep it from coming off, the pharmacist that i shouldn't use them, why is that?

Because it has that linen/cotton pad part that is not sticky, first aid tape works better. Of course, you could always cut the padded part of the bandaids off and jsut use the sticky part, but like I said, first aid tape is better for this. Fentanyl works great as a pain killer, although I find it's rec potential lacking. Be careful with fent, it's side effects seem to be really pronounced (resp. depression).

Ah yes, I took the linen/cotton part off and just used to sticky part for the edges of the fentanyl patch. I pretty high tolerance so I don't even feel euphoria from 25mcg. I'm gonna see if i can get switched to 50mcg, I think that would be perfect. Anyone else have experience with fentanyl patches? I heard you can take the gel out and do all sorts of crazy shit with it. Any ideas?

I don't recommend smoking, eating, shooting, rubbing into your eyes, or any other bizarre mode of ingestion with that gel stuff. If you must get high off your patches, you could very carefully and responsibly dose orally with the gel. Honestly, fentanyl is probably the worst recreational opioid relative to its potency. Be really careful if you plan on taking that gel, OD is not a challenge with fentanyl.

Fentanyl, especially in transdermal form, just makes me feel shitty and drowsy, upping your dose may not necessarily make you feel "high" or any better at all. It may actually make you feel crappy, but maybe you like fentanyl, but oxy is so much better imo.

You just got the 25 mcg patch and already you want the 50 mcg? You're not supposed to feel euphoric. Don't be a fucking moron or you'll end up in a box, or a burden to your family.

Did you see that part where i said i have a high tolerance for opiates? I was taking methadone for 3 years so i have a really high tolerance. And don't call me a fucking moron, I go to pain management and you don't even know how much pain I'm in. So before you go and say things like that, think before you speak. I'm not trying to feel euphoria, I'm just trying to feel comfortable so I can work comfortably. In fact, that's why I like the patch, because i DON'T feel euphoria.

Im on the same patch.. but I get one every 3 days.. I have the same problem.. I use packaging tape...the clear kind.. works fine for me..

As for taking the gel out.. when I want a lil fun (ok its lots of fun) I chew a patch ... smart? no? should YOU? NO!

Yes I get 10 a month and switch the patch out every 3 days. on the 3rd day i don't really feel any relief though, do you have the same problem?

The fent patches are designed to last 3 days, but from experience I've found it's more like 2. That's pretty accurate from what I've read here and other places. They weren't designed for active people with somewhat of a metabolism, but rather for non-ambulatory chronic pain patients.

I liked the Mylan 50mcg, the stick well and instead of tape use Tagaderm. You should be able to get it at any pharmacy. It's like a big clear sticker to put over the patch.

If you have any kind of tolerance, you should be on the 50 or 100mcg patch. The 25 isn't going to do anything. It seems like a lot of Dr's are very careful when it comes to fent. Try to up your dose, it should help you out.

I DID read your post. Your doctor would not have rxd the fentanyl patch for you if you were not opiate-tolerant. It is NOT for opiate-naiive patients. And YOU were the one fishing for info about extracting the gel and "doing all sorts of crazy things" with it. And you also said that the fentanyl patch was (your words) "working great," so why would you need a 50 mcg patch? What crap.

You can do crazy shit with it, but it will really render it useless in the long run as a successful pain medication. With the patch, as you know a certain amount of fentanyl is dispersed over a few days (not exactly sure how long to be honest, havnt seen one in a long time). If you take out the fentanyl from the patch and smoke/sniff/inject it, you will be pretty sorry. Your tolerance will skyrocket, and you won't have effective pain relief, because fentanyl has such a short duration of effect. Fentanyl is also, IMO, not a very euphoric opioid to begin with (which is why it's pretty popularly prescribed, despite being insanely potent). I once heard someone on bluelight describe it as the "crack" of opioids, though I my opinion that's not being fair to crack.

Yeah i'm an active person and I've noticed when i'm at work (i work at a warehouse) i feel it more, not euphoria but i can tell more is being released so i'm assuming body heat/heat in general releases it faster. I think 50mcg, would be fine MAYBE 50mcg. Anything more than that and it would be over kill. The first day i wore it i was fine, second day i had to take 3 oxyIR's throughout the day because I wasn't getting the same relief as the first day. I'll just talk to my doctor when i see him next month. Thanks for all the input guys. Would be great if all i needed was the patch and no pills. Crazy urine retention from opiates.

If you dont mind me asking, what exactly is physically wrong with you? Since you told us all about the meds you take, I was just wondering & being on Methadone for 3 years (was this used for pain management?) will certainly sky rocker your tolerance.

Have you asked your doctor to try Opana?

I'm on fent for 8 years..You say that maybe you should get the 50's, but IMO it would be better for you to take the 25's for 2 days(15 a month), than the 50's for 3 days(10 for a month). Because as you already said, the 3rd day you don't get relief..I was at the same dilemma (take 10 100mcg/h for a month, or 15 75mcg/h). I stuck with the 75's and change every 2 days, and i didn't regret it..was much better. Now i'm on 100's for every 2 days, but i'm still in pain(not all the time,but...). I just wanna suggest you, try not to increase them, cause later you'll have a problem..It's the fuckin tolerance, you see...And the fent is by far the WORST in this section, it rockets up your tolerance to the roof very very fuckin soon, and then the things are difficult..but OK, i don't wanna make you dissapointed, it's the greatest med for the pain(i would like it had some more euphoria, but..)..anyfuckinway, i think you would be allright, just watch the tolerance issue..and if you can get the durogesic brand,(it's not gel, it's matrix) it sticks much better than actavis, and maybe you find it more strong at the same size, cause it has more fent in the patch(the 25's have 4,2 mg in every patch). I hope i helped you just a litl mate, have fun, relief and be safe...%):)

Yes I took methadone for getting addicted to pain killers and so they put me on methadone. I kicked the methadone for a year and stayed off opiates from 1/7/2011 - 11/28/2011 then finally decided i needed to get back on pain killers and learned my lesson about abuse. I would take Opana but since it's not generic yet, my insurance won't cover it. 2 boxes of 5 fentanyl patches ran me 20 bucks since it has many generic and the 10mg oxyIR generics ran me 20 bucks as well so i'm good with that. Once Opana goes generic I'll try it out. I tried an Opana that my friend gave me to try out and see how it worked and I did feel relief but I don't think it was strong enough, I think it was a 15mg so that's probably why.

Yeah I totally agree, fentanyl is a very strong opiate and I can see how it could increase your tolerance very quickly. I'm gonna talk to my doctor and tell him it's only working for 2 days before in the morning of the 3rd day I wake up in pain and I have to take 2 - 10mg oxyIR which is ok with me but then i have to take 3 more throughout the day to supplement the small amount of fentanyl left in the patch on that 3rd day. I will stay on 25mcg as long as possible until I really need to go up. Hopefully they come out with a generic Opana soon because i hear those are really good for long acting pain relief. I will see if I can get the duragesic brand(is it a generic brand?) because the Actavis doesn't stick very well but then again I can always buy the transderm sticker but I have a feeling it would be expensive. If i want some euphoria every now and then, I just take a couple 10mg oxyIR's and I'm good :). Other than that, I take both my meds as prescribed.

When i use to get the patches from the streets, we would put them on our arms and after about an hour hit it with a blow dryer. After 15 mins of waving it back and forth you can tell the difference when you add the heat to it. Also, I don't recommend it because your tolerance will hit the clouds but sucking the gell out and letting it sit in your gums will F**K you up!

OK. I'm not trying to get high off my fentanyl patch so I'm good at trying to get high off of it. Thanks though.

Be careful with fentanyl. I know a ton of people who died as a result of it, and they weren't necessarily trying to get high off of it either.

What sort of fentanyl-requring pain are you in that allows you to maintain an active job at a warehouse, and is your dr. taking new patients?
