2011-2012 football thread

I dunno but.

Does anyone else remember this? A few years ago I think Rooneys agent was involved in some sort of extortion trial. I'm sure I remember that it came out in the trial that when someone (possibly Rooneys agent, possibly not) was tied up in a room (under duress obviously, we're not talking kinky sex games) Kenny Dalglish had to admit to being in that room at the time. The implication being Dalglish was more than friendly with all these gangster types.

So I've often wondered how he became a 'fit and proper' person to run a football club?

Nobody gets tied up here (quite) but this is what I meant. I'll give you a sample but the whole thing is worth a read. 'Murky' doesn't even begin to cover it.

With Rooney all the parties involved knew they had such a player. The court case heard that at an earlier meeting in November 2002, the former Liverpool and Scotland footballer, Kenny Dalglish, invited Tommy Adams - described in court as a 'notorious gangster' - to a rendezvous at a Heathrow hotel.

It was alleged that Dalglish, a major shareholder in Proactive which represented Rooney and a long-standing friend of Stretford, wanted Adams, head of London's top criminal family who had served seven years for importing cannabis, to provide protection for Stretford at the meeting with Hyland and McIntosh.

Stretford claimed in evidence that he felt intimidated at seeing a 'London villain' present and the meeting became heated when Hyland and the others could not get Stretford to sign a deal on their terms. Dalglish and Adams apparently said little but Dalglish, a former Footballer of the Year, then refused to give police a statement.

In court, Stretford said he felt let down by Dalglish. 'I have a had a great and long relationship with Kenny Dalglish and yes, I felt let down by him.'

Stretford himself was accused of wanting Adams present. 'You knew full well that Kenny Dalglish had engineered for one of his unsavoury friends to come and facilitate this meeting,' Lord Carlile, Hylands' barrister said in court. 'It was you who brought the heavy mob, wasn't it?' Stretford denied this and said it was 'fear and confusion' that prevented him from leaving the meeting.

Dalglish was also accused of influencing Rooney's switch from McIntosh to Stretford, visiting Rooney's home to convince his parents, Wayne snr and Jeanette, that their son should change representatives.

Gangsters, blackmail and sleaze in the ugly game

good day for UTD today with easy 3 - 0 win against Bolton, could have being 6 or 7.

scholes and Carrick both come out of retirement and score =D

and the opposite for Spurs. I know you said swansea away is a type of game not to fuck up but wolves at home, i could only see a 3-0 win. Kick up the hole

i post stuff but mostly about whats happening locally .
Bristol , Swindon , Bath etc

Had to giggle after i made a post about Swindons win in the Fa Cup which i had attended only to have someone repeat what i had said with ultimate conviction in their post despite not being at the game 8(

Fantastic showing from Swansea today.

Proper pass and move football from players who know and (note to Liverpool) fit in with that system.

Sigurdsson really looks a player

was a great game to watch with plenty of good football.Swansea got a few nice players and they play as a team = well done the manager.

on a more serious note - the FA have wrote to all referees and any player who passes the ball to Andy Carroll is to be booked for time wasting.

Fact of the day .

Did you ever go down to the old Vetch SHM ?

That was a proper ground ;) with a lovely pitch , imagine them tryin to play their passing game on that surface .

^ Haha. This you mean.

Wenger apparently complained about the state of the Liberty pitch. :|

Always amazed me how close the ground was to the prison. Book the right cell and you were well in for a saturday afternoon. Though apparently the crap East Stand they built in the 80's ruined the view from the prison landings. That's the prison in the background.

Vetch stood derelict for 6 years. They finally started demolition last year.
