2011-2012 football thread

Before I leave this thread I'd just like to consider why people say one thing in private and then communicate in a totally different tone in public. This happens a lot with football fans, who seem to like to convey one sentiment publicly (presumably to appease their peers and to antagonise other team's fans), but who then attempt to pass off their bile as humour and banter in a private chat with another club's supporter.

For instance, Bogman's sarcastic dismissal of me above (what he wants you to see) contrasts heavily with his much more amicable and concilliatory tone conveyed to me via pm (in yellow), illustrated below along with my reply (in red)

ye i dont like your club, never have never will but most of my mates are scousers. belive it or not but a liverpool fan texted me that joke.

I get that, dislike man u too but have a begrudging respect
I just can't stand the disgusting racist jibes (there's enough bad blood without pouring petrol on the fire) , just as bad as Hillsborough or Munich jokes imo, turns my stamach

I don't know Bogman and I'm quite sure he's a reasonable kinda guy irl so I'm not getting at him per se, just using this to illustrate a strange phenomena. Why say one (reasonable) thing in private and one (sarcastic) thing in public? Odd.

I've been a Liverpool fan since the first game I attended, the 1974 FA Cup final. During that time I have been to many Pool v Man U games. I've put myself at risk for berating scum Liverpool fans singing the munich song and have felt physically sick from hearing scum Man U fans sing about Hillsborough (a match I would have been at had I not been in hospital at the time).

In all fairness Man U are worse in their abuse than Liverpool, although I recognise it exists on both sides. Liverpool abuse Man U when we play each other. Man U abuse Liverpool in every match they play regardless of the opposition. Bizarre. I find the whole rivalry-turned-to-hatred thing appalling tbh, especially when you consider the fact that the fans of both clubs have so many clear similarities.

Rivalry, banter, humour, dislike even - great, no worries, let's roll.

Hatred? Not so good eh?

We all know the racist thing has been blown out of all proportion ( a little intelligent research will illustrate as much) but we all love a good bandwagon eh? Liverpool is one of the most friendly and unprejudiced places on the planet. I have been to Anfield more than 150 times and have never heard one single racist remark. People who wanna 'joke' about this are just as bad as the Munich and Hillsborough 'jokers' imho..

It's not fucking funny - will you be laughing when the 'joke' results in somebody being hurt or worse?

Peace Out

That yellow text is blinding dude!
You both should take an e each and hug. Saw a docu. about football hooligans and the good old ecstasy days put a temp. stop to it. One guy being interviewed admitted to loads of hooligans getting back to their old ways due to the pills going to crap. Pity that they didn't progress into a different route afterwards.
Some of my mates here in Ireland are Man U. fans and have been to UTD. games and told me of a story of a Man U fan drunk on a train singing "I rather be a paki than a scouse" and so on. He was standing beside a Pakistani person and when he was finished the song said to him "sorry Paki". That's an example of some of the no brain mentality with some supporters. Must get around to reading my The Soccer Tribe book to understand it all a bit more.
Bottle of vino drunken bullshit rant over!

Well that's funny, cos I don't think you get it either man

I enjoy BANTER but not BILE

I'm quite aware of both drug, forums, and football culture.

I DONT mind Scum (though most real 'Pool fans reserve that term for The Sun), Slur Alex, The Govan Tramp, Oh Manchester is full of shit shit and more shit, In your Liverpool slums, Sign On, bin dippers, etc etc

I DO mind Munichs, Murderers, Hillsborough taunts, face palming. aeroplanes and the racist shit.

You see the difference I'm sure. Language is powerful shit. If it gets any worse twixt the two clubs someone is gonna die

I have seen a lot of violence twixt mancs and scousers - it is fuelled by the above - it's not funny man and it's very real. Ever been to a Pool Man U game?

BL doesn't strike me as a hatred fuelling kinda place, however unintentionally.

Liverpool and Manchester - two fine northern working class cities with a lot in common, not least having the most successful footy teams.

If you must have the last word, feel free. I've said my piece and hope you're getting me more clearly now.

Cheers (see ya next weekend)

@ agengpartyfiend - if ye dont mind me asking but what part of the world are ye from.

im in ireland and live n work n friends with liverpool supporters so get n give plenty of stick.

Well done to Aberdeen today for their hard fought point at Ibrox. Rangers having being earlier this season 15 points clear of Celtic are now 4 points behind...=D

The only other time I can think of a team being that many points clear and blowing it was Kevin Keegan's Newcastle around 1996 where he spent £50million was way in front and still blew it.

@ bogman

I live in Wales, but brought up in the North West....have scouse and manc mates and like both cities

Me ma was raised in Stretford, literally in the shadow of Old Toilet, all my family diehard Manure fans and me girlfriend lives in Manc to boot

I also know many mancs, give and take plenty of banter BUT we leave the bile out, as we kinda understand the dangers of it and don't cross that line

Downing, Carroll and Adam - never were/are going to fit at Anfield...mediocre players...wrong system for them etc etc

Carroll needs a partner and a barrage of crosses (and a first touch), Adam must be part of a 3 man midfield and Downing needs to fucking grow a pair.

The worst transfer window I can remember, on a par with Houllier's disaster with Diao, Diouf and Cheyrou.

Yeah but they were not that expensive Diouff was quite a bit.

Downing, Carroll and Adam oh n Henderson how can i forget that world class talent thats close on 80 mil 8(

Great second half in Manchester.

However as much as I like Balotelli there's no way he should have been on the pitch after that disgraceful stamp on Parker. No way on this planet that was accidental.

Terrible tackle by King for the peno, after he'd had a storming game too.

Glad City won, only because they're the only team I can see stopping Manure winning the title though

just want to curl up and die after that... thought we were gonna get smashed after those 2 sloppy goals conceded but to pull it back to 2-2, and for defoe to miss that chance and then have that cunt (who i used to like) score a penalty after that disgusting stamp that he should've been sent off for...... eurfghhhhhhh this is horrible.. didn't expect us to win the league but that was not a game we deserved to lose :(:(:(:(

What a fucking disgrace. As much as i like Balotelli's crazy off field antics, giving money away to the local Manc pikeys and sorting out school bullys, hes a fucking headcase. Straight red, pure filth, no need for it.

How is that genital wart Howard Webb rated as a top referee in the world, nevermind England? Every single game he makes a horrendous decision and thats basically fucked any chance we had.

And for fucks sake Jermaine. Really?

cracking 2nd half some great goals but fcuk me the ref lost his btl.straight red card for the stamp but got the peno spot on.

thats how ye win a league with 3pts won in the last 15seconds of a game.

ridiculous that he got away with that...

He's a naughty boy !
You gotta luv the way he falls over after as if he was wronged somehow8(

Still i for one like having him in the prem cos he does make some great headlines and makes me laugh.

i know most people dont like Gary Neville but he pretty good on sky sports.

I probably dislike Gary Neville more than any other footballer, so it galls me to have to admit that he talks more sense than any other pundit currently.

Is remarkably fair and unbiased too as well as having clear insight into the game, bah.

Wouldnt be hard with the bunch of complete idiots they have working for them. Wilkins, Redknapp or Yorke!

Utd were asking for that equaliser. Arsenal really are shocking at the back. Utds keepers are hilarious
