Film What's the Last Film You Saw? v. Tell Us What You Thought!

La ronde ('64)

this is a remake. i did not know that until 30 seconds ago when i google-checked the spelling. i rented it for 60s anna karina. she is featured toward the beginning. it was weird to see her play a sex doll. though fortunately not b-role sex doll; the film follows a string of young women, and is successful in making each one feel like the movie's main character for the 25 consecutive minutes she gets on screen. anna's character is the most innocent (so is her role, as to be expected). and foolish. she's good at that one. her make-up is almost clownish in some shots, but overall she looks great in it.

soon as anna's segment was finished, i was crawling out of my skin. and if you were not obsessed with anna, i think you'd be bored from the get go. the structure is solid. but the relationships are each a generalized typification -- leaving nothing to be strange or interesting.

From Dusk Till Dawn

It's been awhile since I've seen this one.

Magic Trip

The documentary about Ken Kesey and The Prankster's bus trip. This is the sort of documentary that leaves you with a dry thirst for life and adventure. I'm putting heavy consideration into pointing the car westward and driving until I hit water.

Not THE last but one of the last 5 films I have seen in the past several days...and I still cannot get it out of my mind. I cannot believe I have never seen it before as I am the type of person who makes a point of watching films about REAL atrocities in life bc I believe to ignore-to knowingly remain ignorant makes me no better than the sick fucks who orchestrate such things. Since seeing this I have done a great deal of research on the subject and am so sad,yet realize just how good I have it and that I will never know what it is like to have a rough life. It has very much put things in perspective for me. As a supporter of MANY human rights campaigns I will not only look into what I can give in this matter, but from the research-learning that much of the so called "Aid" to this country from my country and others,is a farce-I will make sure that the make sure the organizations I give to and support are REAL and not some bullshit mask that the world wide super powers use to make the masses think that help is given when help is most needed.
Not for the faint of heart, but like any film on War-WW II Holocaust-Slavery-Genocide ect...I believe it is a film that everyone should see.I loved it although it sickens me and has plagued me for almost a week now. HARD HITTING!!!

Pretty funny. It dragged in a couple spots, but the dark nature of the comedy was spot-on for the most part. It's got Ian Roberts (who looks weirdly emaciated) and Matt Walsh from the Upright Citizens Brigade, so you know its gotta have some hilarious moments.

I want to do that more than anything. Train and/or bus is also acceptable. Been trying to go on a badass road trip for years, but it hasn't worked out. Hopefully in time.

I'll have to check this movie out.

Spaced (The Complete Series)

A surreal laugh riot that keeps you on your toes, especially for us Yanks who aren't totally fluent in British and its -isms. If you liked Shaun of the Dead, well, this is SotD the tv-show, and no less polished or nuanced for lack of the Zed-word. Geek references abound, the editing and cinematography are perfect, the soundtrack compliments the radical comedic shifts in tone to great effect. The standout performance in this gem was one Mark Heap, whose portrayal of the neurotic "artist" Brian is one of the best I've had the pleasure of seeing in any comedy.

Balada Triste de Trompeta (aka The Last Circus)

So I'm not going to lie, my only motivation for seeing this was the delicious Carolina Bang. Thankfully, it had a bit more to offer than that, though she wasn't bad either. Told in the backdrop of Spain's violent 20th-century revolutions, this is one part comedy, one part love triangle, and the rest are the body parts it leaves behind along the way. It delves into the Latin concepts of man struggle for dominance and his own animal tendencies, how the weak and kind are corrupted by the strong and evil, and somehow I feel like women as original sin is thrown in there as well, just for good measure. This is a twisted, sometimes amusing and insightful modern pseudo-fairy-tale, told from a very Spanish perspective. Much like Pan's Labyrinth, I feel like if I were Spanish this might be a masterpiece. It's not for the faint of heart, and don't expect any happy endings. Not great, but it meant a lot to those involved and that shows, so it's worth watching.

Protagonist

Great documentary! A series of four interviews from various true lives on the fringe interwoven together, telling a common tale of obsessive self-control that leads to some form of destruction and rebirth, with a backdrop of a Greek play that I didn't recognize. I empathize a lot with their struggles, since it's been a big issue in my life as well; do we exile ourselves from society as an individual, or reign ourselves in to gain acceptance, becoming what we are not in the process? Once we reach individuation, how do we pick up the pieces? Fascinating and well-put-together by director Jessica Yu.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966)

Will definitely need to watch again in one shot since watching it broken up over a few days and a few viewing times was not ideal. Excellent film though. :)

I've only seen the first episode of Spaced, and while it was pretty funny, I'm hoping that it gets better.

It does get better, right?

Horrible Bosses

The bosses are indeed horrible, the movie itself isn't bad. Kevin Spacey rocks a good villain, and the trio of comedic heroes play quite well off each other. The plot is predictable, but no surprise there. Since I'm not a fan of It's Never Funny in Philadelphia, this movie gave me a nice insight into just how entertaining Charlie Day can be. Worth a watch for numerous chuckles and a few good laughs.

Legion

One of the worst movies I've ever seen, and not in a good way. At no point does it even come close to being either exciting or emotionally compelling. Failed on every level imaginable. I feel sorry for Paul Bettany that he's relegated to roles like this and Priest nowadays; I have no such sympathy for Dennis Quaid.

I agree man I love Paul Bettany I think he is a great actor (especially in Master and Commander) but he has been doing a lot of shite recently.

The Killing directed by Stanley Kubrick

Great film though definitely (or should I say obviously?) not his best work. Great noir though and I loved the rapidly delivered dialogue. The narration though kind of bugged me but it was ok.
