Film What's the Last Film You Saw? v. Tell Us What You Thought!

Just saw Edmond for the second time yesterday evening. A great film for sure, from an ancient horror film maker (Stuart Gordon) who squeezes his perversions into a sad and perfect mixture and delivers so quickly the good philosophical stuff.

And then we have the fantastic perfomance from the lead William H. Macy, burning the black pellicula with so much easyness and talent it's indecent.

Add a fine photography, a music reminiscent of that of Taxi Driver, and a strong direction d'acteurs that is impeccable and dry.

All in all a definite and clean cut effortless tour de force from the brilliant duo Gordon/Mamet. 8.5/10

saw Magnolia for the 3rd time last night

and cried during most of it like last time as well aha tears of appreciation that is

what a fucking tour de force of cinema 8o

the tunnel

The Killing directed by Stanley Kubrick

Great film though definitely (or should I say obviously?) not his best work. Great noir though and I loved the rapidly delivered dialogue. The narration though kind of bugged me but it was ok.

golden age stuff

Watched 'Super 8' at the weekend, didn't see all of it due to having couple of valium beforehand. Saw about 80% of it though as was quite disappointed. As usual the trailer made the film look great but not worth watching in my opinion.
On the other hand though I also watched 'Bruno' which I found hilarious. Its made by Sasha Baron Cohen who played the characters Ali G and Borat.
If you are a fan of those two films then I think you would also enjoy watching 'Bruno'.

At the beginning I thought, dry and impotent but it had a pleasant turn 3/4 of the way into it- no major interesting story/plot for those looking for one but plenty of pretty people with style and a subtle insight into social and emotional idiosyncracies- was a very lazy, 'pretty' film;(wasn't surprised there was a 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' reference) with a nice emotional uplift at the end; it was quaint in a postmodern, fashionable way- some nice tracks, I liked it but it didnt challenge me enough. I think it was thowing light on the limits and reality of the present zeitgeist of being intellectually and fashionably attractive.

I Saw The Devil

Very very good film. Min-sik Choi (Oldboy) plays one of the lead roles seriously well. Pretty fast paced and keeps you gripped from the start. I haven't been that impressed with a film for a while.

I watched "Sauna" tonight on MXE and JWH-018, approaching it not so much as a movie to be watched but as a quasi-psychospiritual aesthetic experience to be had. I can't review it properly because of that, but I can say it's a great movie to watch on dissociatives. It was a bit like if Tarkovsky's "Stalker" and "Valhalla Rising" chased "Antichrist's" chaos fox "Down to the Cellar" of Jan Svankmajer's and licked each other's pixels in the swampy dark. Yep, that's about right.

EDIT: Coming back to this sober it still seems right. Look at these images from each of the movies referenced:

Last saw the final Harry Potter films. They were good, but I feel like I missed something. Oh yeah, maybe the 5th and 6th films. 8)

Read the books years ago though. :)

Alien Visitor (aka Epsilon)

Not really a sci-fi movie, or a romance, or anything but a loose lecture put to film a la Mindwalk. I enjoyed it quite a bit, but then I'm already a "convert", so I admit this could be strenuous watching for those with more conventional opinions of humanity. The message aside, the Aussie pair, man and woman, who star are delightful in their roles and have natural chemistry. The director's visual presentation is also well done and very pleasant to watch for fans of nature documentaries. It won't win over any non-believers, but for those who agree with its message it's a rare outlet that is beautifully filmed.

The League (Seasons 1 & 2)

It's a bit like Party Down, but more lowbrow and fueled by testosterone. You don't have to know much about football to enjoy it, though it helps. The show revolves around your typical juvenile thirty-something guys and their terrible married lives, but hits its stride after a few episodes and delivers solid laughs once it puts you in the mood. The cast is the core of this one; David Scheer and Rick Kroll are tremendous opposites and stand out as such. My favorite of them all has to be Jon Lajoie, every moment he's on screen you are subtely drawn to him, and I caught myself wondering more than once if he doesn't deserve a better show than this, he's that talented. While it's not quite The Office or Parks and Recreation level, this show has a curious sort of charm going for it and is worth a watch, just stick around past the first episode or two.

last movie i watched was the producers. gene wilder rules.

i'm now 3/4 through the four part miniseries "the promise". awesome work on the palestine/israel situation set both in the present and the 1940's. i'll make a thread once i'm finished.

Winnebago Man

Jack Rebney is the most famous man you've never heard of - after cursing his way through a Winnebago sales video, Rebney's outrageously funny outtakes became an underground sensation and made him an internet superstar. Filmmaker Ben Steinbauer journeys to the top of a mountain to find the recluse who unwittingly became the "Winnebago Man."

- IMDB

7/10

very strange, interesting take on "reality".

cowboy bebop: knocking on heaven's door.

that intro animation is stunning as always, and the music fkn rocks.

Im Not There

havent seen this since it came out, just stopped it where he begins explaining why, he thinks women cant compare at writing poetry the same as men.

something about the way they interpret, or feel pain.

im having a blast following this, but that was just my call for intermission.

Im Not There

OH!

I forgot all about this movie. I've never seen it but it brings back so many memories. I was brand new in town and the theater downtown decided to show this movie so I asked the cute Walgreens chick if she wanted to go see it with me. It was my first trip downtown as well as hers so of course we ended up getting lost and missing the entire movie. We decided to hang out downtown all night and and had alot of fun :)

I should check it out...
