Stop resisting!
The House of Representatives voted Thursday to pass HR 1254, the Synthetic Drug Control Act of 2011, which would criminalize not only synthetic stimulants ("bath salts"), but also synthetic cannabinoids ("fake pot") marketed under names such as "K2" and "Spice."

At least 40 states have passed bans on the new synthetic drugs, and the DEA has placed both fake pot and bath salts under emergency bans. The bill would make both sets of substances Schedule I drugs under the Controlled Substances Act, which would pose substantial impediments to researching them. Scientists have warned Congress that placing the synthetic drugs under Schedule I will have a chilling effect on ongoing efforts to explore treatments for a range of diseases and disorders.

Under the bill, prison sentences of up to 20 years could be imposed for the distribution of even small quantities of the new synthetics.

Seeking some small solace in the wake of the vote, Bill Piper, national affairs director for the Drug Policy Alliance, which had lobbied to defeat the bill, said it was "significant" that nearly a hundred members of the House had broken with drug war orthodoxy to vote against the bill.

Wow 100 voted against it? Are things starting to look up for good old fashioned drugs? Or is it just more internal politics bull shit?

Why the fuck do we pay these people that don't vote? I thought that was their job?

^Hallelujah, MXE is still under their radars. It was crazy ballsy for head shops to be selling all these laced herbs and powders with unknown drugs on them, something had to give eventually. The bill is a load of shit though. I bought JWH before it was illegal and still have some, so guess I'll be committing another crime in a few weeks, without having to do anything. They love to make it easier for people to go to jail.

My representative voted no! That's something good at least, a fair number of people voted no.

They don't have to vote on every bill they see, otherwise lots of reps would end up making dumb uneducated votes on bills they know nothing about (they still vote stupidly, but at least they can choose to not vote).

Does this cover methoxetamine? It hasnt hurt anyone!!! They can do away with the fake pot shit though i dont give a fuckkkk. EW.

You don't care about freedom, or the morality of allowing people to explore their own consciousness?
That is your right, but that puts you in the same room with the DEA, and all the drug war lovers.
This is exactly the attitude they hoped you would have.
"Because it doesn't affect my own freedoms, since I don't use that class of drugs, I don't care if you take this freedom away from everyone."
Just because you don't enjoy a drug yourself does not mean that you should be happy if it is made illegal.
Their net is closing tighter and tighter. If you don't care about the principles involved, but only the specific drugs that you enjoy, you are ultimately on their side.

^ Great post SlimV. That really is the heart of the matter. Freedom to explore for oneself.

Exactly. Part of the problem is that there are so many selfish idiots out there who don't bother to look at the bigger picture.

Not for long, given its popularity its just a matter of time before it gets hit with the spotlight.

PROTIP: If you guys want to keep the party going, you should stop talking the stuff so much on the public interwebs. ;)

I bet MXE will stay under the radar for a while. The thing that ruined it for the cannabinoids and "bath salts" is that head shops sold them and they cause huge numbers of hospitalizations and terrible experiences. MXE doesn't cause close to as many problems as those others amongst those who use them, and it's only available online. No reason for politicians to care because their constituents don't.

Most Americans have no idea about most research chems, even those that have been around for 10 or 20 years. They know about the bath salts and stuff because they were some of the sketchiest things sold since the FDA was formed. As long as people aren't getting hospitalized en masse by using MXE and as long as head shops don't start selling it, I bet safer RCs like MXE and 4-ACO-DMT are low priorities for the lawmakers.

Not sure about the US but I have a hunch it's the same story. When a drug gets demonised in the media, it isn't the only drug that gets banned. Other similar drugs get banned on the back of it. For example, LSD was accompanied by all the other psychedelics known about at the time such as DMT, mushrooms and mescaline. When methedrone was banned, so was methylone and butylone. In each case only one substance was a media cause for concern, with any supposed deaths associated with it, yet a number of substances for which there was available evidence, or even rumors, of harm gets banned at the same time.

I think this fact is an unexplored weakness that can be highlighted in our current systems.

Under the current atmosphere in the "war on drugs", since attention has shifted from simpler things such as methamphetamine, the govt finally caught on to the more popular and media-spotlit RC's, and cathinones become the new amphetamine. I almost feel like because its like fighting medusa for them (cut off one head, 6 more pop up, more deviated from the original chemical, and more toxic), they're looking for new ways to stop this, which SOPA will create, forexample. They say its all about the MPAA and Pirate Bay, but it was expressed that this will even give them the power to shut down LEGIT canadian pharmacies. So they can just block all main RC vents instead of just scheduling chemical after chemical. I seriously cannot imagine how overworked the DEA will be, looking for new caths and cannabinoids to schedule every fucking week. And they'll come out faster than they can schedule, of course, and some will slip under the radar. I did like the 2c's (as some of you know from my post! lol) but this isnt a DISTASTER, sopa is a DISASTER. However, if they were to continue pursuing these "designer drugs" and keep on cutting our freedom and keep on adding to prohibition, it will only lead to something really, really fucking bad.

And I agree with, if you like it, don't talk about it. You're happy MXE got under the radar? Then the best thing to do is never mention it on a public forum again, and don't use things like *snip* and whatever. I feel like thats the most detrimental site to the whole movement (although its helpful, dont get me wrong, and some of the people are nice, but it is so exploitative of this loophole that it gets way too much attention). We gotta stop this crazy open shit. If you even google "MDAI"...well, I won't say anymore. The point is, people are doing this wayyyyy too openly, which is partially what causes this problem. We are taking a good thing, and trying to capitalize on it to the highest point possible, squeeze every bit of juice out of it, shake out every dollar, and throw it in the schedule I vault. I urge you, if you care about this like I do, stop being so open. Vendors don't care, they'll shut down at the last minute, and that causes part of the problem.

This happened earlier with MDMA (thankfully its made a comeback, in molly form, though pills are DEAD AS DILLINGER and will make you just as dead these days), when it was also capitalized to the very breaking point. Every real mdma roll was replaced by piperazines, and for now it seems like most of the molly out there isn't really even cut with much (in my area, IME, ofc, just an observation) and I take that as a good sign. This is just an example of what happens.

To quote a friend of mine: "Its not a democracy and emails and petitions won't help anyone. Arm yourselves". An ex-bluelighter by the name of RoboWings, he might still be in the system somewhere :)

All the rules and regulations in the world won't stop people from taking drugs. As long as we're human, we'll be curious about what drugs can do for us. 2C-X has been illegal in the UK for a while, and that doesn't seem to stop people over there from trying them. Hell, 2C's could have been considered illegal under the federal analog act here in the US for years and they're more popular than ever.

If anything, putting all psychedelics under the same class will make people more likely to move back to things like LSD. The only reason anybody ever chose 2C-C over LSD is because 2C-C is less illegal than LSD and thus less expensive and less rare. Now, there's little reason not to drop acid. I'm predicting a massive increase in the popularity of LSD over the next few years.
