Okay, the Abilify is an anti-psychotic, a newer one, but one nonetheless. In my opinion some anti-psychotics are good for a few things, migraines, extreme agitation, acute psychosis, stim comedown, extreme nausea, probably a few others. In my opinion not much more. They aren't drugs that are healthy to use on a daily basis because they can end up causing irreversible side effects, most notoriously the fabulous tardive dyskenisia. Would you like to smack your lips uncontrollably for the rest of your life or have your hand shake uncontrollably, or have any other involuntary muscle spasms permanently? I wouldn't. Now, that is not the only reason you shouldn't take them, but in my opinion they just worsen psychiatric conditions by really throwing your brain chemistry for a loop, anti-psychotics often zombify you. You become very flat, very tranquilized, and unmotivated. It isn't pleasant. They can cause restlessness and dysphoria, and are just not good drugs to take on a daily basis. Anti-psychotics can also lower the seizure threshold.
Now, they can interfere with the amphetamines because they aim to lower levels of dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine, and amps boost those through the roof. Abilify is a little different in that it increases some levels of these neurochemicals, but reduces them at the same time, in effect keeping them stable. I wouldn't throw away all of your Abilify by any means, it can be very appropriate, but not every day. The other day I had to go to a funeral of a friend's family member, and I knew it wasn't going to be a good day, it was going to be anxious, and uncomfortable, and sad. So, I took 100 mg Seroquel (from my little just in case stash) along with my benzos, which I take every day. I am not sure even that was a good use for the Seroquel, but I sure was downed out, not in a good way really, just downed out. So if you ever find yourself in a situation where you just can't handle yourself with anxiety or psychosis or stimulant comedown, taking Abilify would be fine, just not often. You could even force a stimulant comedown with an anti-psychotic, though Abilify isn't ideal it would work, it would also work to kill a trip, just so you know. I hope this helps.
