The Rum Diaries

How does everyone think this will be compared to the book ? For those who does not know wrote the rum diaries in 1959 and his only piece considered fictional. The one the only Hunter S. Thompson ! I'm am very glad to see johnny Deph Is playing the lead.

Hmmm im not sure it seems the story may not have much to do with the book. And it does look kinda Fear and Loathing ish I predict a bad movie.

^^^
Yea I guess that makes sense plot wise I aways didnt ike the ending of the book I felt like hunter forced something dramatic to happen I dont know how to describe it without giving the ending of the book away. I just didnt feel like the tension between Sanderson and Yeamon was explored enough to justify the ending of the book.

i wonder why bluelighters immediately gush torrents in their undies at the mere mention of the name "hunter"

wow an excessive drug use fantasy figure, holy shit my heart's a flutter and i feel faint in utter awe and jealousy

Lol, I see what you are doing. Alright, for the record I do secretly hate on Hunter S. Thompson but it's only because I'm jealous of his shine. The truth is that people in general don't understand how ridiculous it feels to be trolling the real world specifically on psychedelics. It is an utterly epic endeavor that is probably one of the better things a person could choose to do in life. I choose to disrespect drug users as a group for not having more deep adventures rather than disrespect Hunter S. Thompson. Do I think anyone with the right amount of motivation could do what Hunter did with his typewriter? Sure. But the fact remains that he's the only person who did it like that.

^Which I might add is the same reason Jay Z gets so much credit despite the fact that he is not the best possible incarnation of a rapper. Not to change the subject, but it is a parallel situation I believe.

he made some pretty words and trolled it up hard before we were even born. i just mock the way blers absolutely and unoquivocably adore anything drug related. i love fear&loathing (the movie more than the book), but come on. it can be like the man was jesus around these parts just cuz he drank a bathtub of moonshine for every breakfast since turning 8. same as that shithole drama breaking bad... anyway back to hunter...when i grow up, i'm gonna get drunk every day and shoot myself too, that's so fucking glamourous, i'm sure to get laid then.

I think your problem is more with the way drug users tend to create caricatures of themselves based on the 5 or 6 original characters that actually have existed at one time or another. It pisses me off too, when I see people exploring Hunter S. Thompson, Andy Warhol, and William S. Burroughs from the angle of, "that person did drugs, so do I, therefore I totally understand what is going on and don't deserve to die in a fire."

If you look back in time, and really listen to what people like Aleister Crowley and Marquis de Sade were about, you might forgive yourself for skipping over their sexual habits and choice of intoxication because the hype has died down considerably and come to the conclusion that these people may have been the only normal people alive at the time, or at least the only people worth hanging out with. The same can be said for Hunter S. Thompson. But because he is so totally misunderstood by a culture that views certain lifestyle choices as fashion statements designed to be hollowed out and mass-produced, we have kids walking around making Hunter faces while wearing sun glasses as some sort of attempt to convince others that they belong in the same brand of counter-culture as Hunter.

What these people fail to realize is that Hunter was never a part of any movement. He was a movement himself, and everyone else can be too if they would take Hunter's scaly, dead penis out of their mouths for a minute and actually pay attention to what the drugs are telling them.

spot on, bro.

where i exaggerate in order to counterpoint the overwhelming majority, you cut with surgical precision. i think we should fuck and create a superspawn, the spirit of which no stoner or hippy or raver could repress or deny.

I could be mistaken, but the superspawn I am thinking of requires a large amount of lebensraum. What to do, what to do.

I just realized that you were implying that we fuck, as in you and me, to create a better species.
