Hello, ive never paid a lot of attention in chemistry classes in high school which i am now regretting.
Recently i got my hands on 30 1mg Xanax Retard pills (as i understood this is the same as Xanax ER in the US.)
Although those xanies work great for people with anxiety id like to use them recreationally. After doing some thorough research on the internet (and this site in particular) ifound out that it is really hard to defeat the gel based time release. One site/topic mentioned using methanol or 100% ethanol since alprazolam is soluable in alcohol and the mentioned gel matrix isnt. I had problems however finding a store (i live in the Netherlands) where theyd sell either methanol or 100% ethanol. Lots of drug stores however sell so called Denaturated Alcohol. Which is, according to the ingredients list on the bottle 96% alcohol and 'aqua'. However, there must be more ingredients in the bottle since its denaturated which means as i understood it that it has been made unfit for human consumption.
Since ive 30 pills and a lot of time on my hands today i decided to give the extraction method a try anyway. First i grinded the pill to a very fine powder. i put the powder in a tall shot glass and added the alcohol. After some stirring and shaking i noticed that the solution wasnt gelling up like it used to do when i just used water.
I put the shot glass away and noticed after 4 hours that there seemed to be some 'seperation' going on. On the bottom of the glass was a white jelly goo and the rest of the alcohol on top looked like milk dilluted with water.
I carefully extracted the milky substance out of the glass with an oral syring leaving the white jelly goo on the bottom of the glass.
Next I put the milky substance in another tall shot glass and filled a cereal bowl with very hot water. In it I Placed the shot glass. For the next 10 to 15 minutes I made sure by replacing the water every once in a while that the water in the bowl stayed hot.
15 minutes later all the alcohol in the glass was evaporated and all that was left was a small amount of fine white powder.
When I added some water to the powder it did not gel up. Which made me believe that the powder atleast had no gel matrix in it anymore.
I see ive been rambling on for quite some time now. My question is twofold. First, id like to know if anyone here knows how toxic the powder might stilll be (secretly i know the answer because you guys dont know what, except for obviously the alcohol, the remaining ingredients of the denaturated alcohol could be. Secondly, although there might still be some toxins left i can imagine since its such a small amount they might not be that harmfull (wishfull thinking , i know
).
Thanks in advance for reading this huge wall of text!
fixed: thought there was a self incriminating rule here, my bad.
